My mom passed from Cancer last year. She got her report from the doctor and I begged her, "Go to Hawaii, go see the Redwoods. Die in a place you want to be." But instead she fought for 2 years with chemo and its effects, constant therapy and pain, with no chance of conquering the cancer. After she passed I told myself I'm done waiting. I'm out of here. We are selling the house and I'm getting an RV and traveling around teaching photography. I'd rather die on a mountain in a thunderstorm then a sterile hospital hooked up to a monitor.

There are alternative approaches to cancer, some films cover them 1) The Cancer Conspiracy 2) Run from the cure 3) Burzynski the movie 4) The diet from "Reversing Diabetes in 30 days" 4) The beautiful Truth 5) "not a film" Curry powder mixed with black pepper and olive oil. There are others, and some of these mixed together are geometrically more powerful.

Michelle Brixius I so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom 5 years ago at the age of 63. That was the first spark for me to reevaluate my situation. I've been a vet tech for 22 years and still love going to work every day but I live in MN and winter is getting harder and harder to deal with physical (back and joint issues). The spark turned to a roaring fire about 9 months ago when my friend/coworker was diagnosed with liver cancer at 48 (I'm 42)...we lost her last month after a tough battle. My dream has always been to retire and travel in an RV...my turning point question was..."why am I waiting...what needs to be done to do my dream now"...I came up with a plan...I would work seasonal (April through Sept in MN at the job I love n don't want to quit...fish my heart out on my off time instead if mowing my grass every other day)!...then head to warmer weather the remaining winter months. My employers are amazing and very excited for me...willing to help with medical insurance n giving me a place to live in my RV during the summers, too. I couldn't ask for better employers/friends! I started selling stuff the day I talked to them...I have a 2-4 year window to fix my house and plan for my great adventure. If you have a dream...don't wait!

I began my life as a nomad when I was 19 years old. I was living in a duplex I bought only 6 months earlier while I was still 18 years old. I remember my adventure began based on a whim. I was sitting in my car at a traffic light in Cincinnati Ohio when a thought popped in my head about going to Florida. A moment later I was enroute. 24 hours later, I was standing on Clearwater Beach. I'm 58 years old now and am living the van life lifestyle again. 😀

When asked what surprised him about humanity the most, the Dalai Lama replied:“Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

Keith Miller .....Only .00001% of people will read that quote among many other wise teachings. But 99% will know and talk about useless "news" spoonfed to them in the last 24 hours. They have gotten sucked into the mainstream media treadmill like rodents in a maze conditioned (by hunger) to constantly chasing the cheese. They think they are being rewarded because they don't realize the maze they are in. IF they knew, AND their puppet master psychologists could read their minds, they would be telling their captures to go f#%k themselves since they weren't born to be lab experiment pawns. We truly are thought of as lab rats by our oligarchy puppet master narcissists as proven by their behavior patterns.

@@jusayenso8186 you're good with words. You can be a leader. People need a leader to show the way to not need a leader. Our restraints are constructed by desires. Few have any idea of true desire. We're born into a "cat video", and we're rewarded for wasting our "one shot" chasing the laser dot.

@@michaelmills9105 ...I appreciate a unique and sadly too rare rebuttal with rarely heard points, more than your compliment. I think you may know why people who truly know plenty more than most others what's really going on, will not try to be a true leader for goals like truth, transparency, more real equality, and more examples. I have learned that the system is set in stone. The "changes" are mostly window dressing, once I kept learning the "bigger picture", which took many years and is still an ongoing process. Even those led to learning even more bigger picture truths. Have you ever tried to talk one on one with enough of these products of the system? I have and knew that a high volume of test data naturally increases accuracy. I learned to change variables too, and did the proper tweaking over the years too. I get more people responding in way more positive ways when I dummy up, lying about what I know is right, and just talking down to their level. Way too high a percentage of people have such fast kneejerk reactions ranging from embarrassment to despise when I take a simple topic with a proven right answer, and actually perform the act of teaching them (for free!!) as many step by step explanations about why these mathematically based answers are the correct answer! Sadly, despise is the most popular reaction. It's often subtle, but I already had years of experience learning how to identify body language and subtle yet consistent similar signs in the rebuttals they respond with. It's really not as hard as it might sound, since I also learned that low level thinkers are amazingly similar! That's how twisted their brains have evolved to becoming. Young teenagers are actually way easier to teach than 30, 40, 50, and even people over 60, who fell into the several bad habits that actually causes them to get more narrow minded and more ignorant each year. It's a slow and subtle process, but this is what I became very competent at testing. I learned testing methods from proven testing methods in behavioral psychology. Others use their time becoming self taught at car repairs, being able to remodel their kitchen, learn all about butterflies, and many other hobbies. It's so funny how these people so negatively comment that I am crazy because I use proper psychology references! Naturally, this makes no sense to accuse someone that cannot learn psychology as their hobby choice! Yet they will contradict themselves and say things like "psychiatrists are corrupt". Those are paid psychiatrists and they know I'm not, but still get this simple problem solving thinking task wrong. They contradict themselves so often, the longer I talk/debate points with them. I get to use and also benefit from this learned knowledge several times per day. It's truly both mind boggling and so sad to see all the evidence of just how many people will go to their graves being reduced to living all those years with such wrong perceptions of almost everything they talk about. Yes, they truly get so negative when you correctly strategize to reduce it to the ridiculous, and prove them wrong about even basic problem solving mistakes (with only one mathematically based right answer!) they make, leading to them making the same mistakes up to thousands of times over and over on simple tasks. Many wise people in the past came up with many wise sayings that stand the test of time. I really respect so many wise old sayings, as well as any new wisdom, right down to points in comments like yours. I do read them a few times and take time to do some thinking about them.Anyways, that wise old saying is so true about how ignorance is bliss. The 'bliss' is evidenced by the huge egos so many people have. They are so hard to teach!! Then again, I don't have that impressive title that many successful false prophets have or don't get my thrills winning popularity contests by simply easily knowing how to tell people what they like to hear for my personal gains. That system is so powerful and so successful.

@@jusayenso8186 cool! I'm a fan of psychology also! Full disclosure; I'm just a dumb truck driver. But I've enjoyed a lot of audio courses, etc... I also have the freedom to think, and explore, whatever interests me. I've learned a bit about alot of things, but I don't know "much" about anything. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. On the subject of leadership, l'd encourage you to find a comfortable scale that suits your method of conveying logical thought, and sparking the interest of fertile minds. You know, as a hobby. Some will make you an "outcast", for diverting mindless conversation toward intellectually constructive "brainstorming". Alas, you probably have "been there, done that". "Break" for substance: All the "PATTERNS" you've referred are a psychological prerequisites for the empire of civilization to exist. Psychological manipulation is big business. What this post is attempting to supply, is a path to exist within civilization, while escaping the psychological confinement, necessary to maintain the "GRAND ILLUSION" of civilization. ☺ It's not as hard as we make it out to be. Security is an illusion. This illusion can only be purchased in exchange for psychological freedom. Not a good deal.

My boss that hired me when I was 21 years old; for 14 years he told me almost every day that he was miserable working at the company (my boss was there +30 years). He retires and upper management throws a big retirement party for him... 3 months later he drops dead in his kitchen while cooking breakfast for his wife. I go to his funereal and very few employees show up and I see no upper management there. My boss gave +30 years to these people and they didn't care to show up. I quit that same company 2 years later; management was telling me not to leave because they cared for me and it was a reliable paycheck... but I knew it was all bullshit. I started a photo booth rental company where I'm the sole employee and boss; I work 2-3 days a week go to parties for a living. He can be scary at times when I'm not fully booked some months, but I wouldn't trade this new found freedom for anything in this world.

I'm almost 50 years old. 10 years ago my parents were financially destitute. They were being moved out of their apt. And we're given 6 months warning. They both had medical issues, were miserable people and poor parents ( alcoholism and abusive). My wife...best person I've known...loves family and said we needed to care do them...very long story...we wound up building an family suite onto our home. So many illnesses with both parents over the past ten years: 3 strokes, feeding tubes, falls , cancer, and a slew of infections. Life has turned into a horrible existence. I have no other brothers or sisters to carry the load. My father is ninety five and mother in here eighties. Each day starts the same and ends the same... up early...pills, tube feedings, diaper changes and urinal leanings...then off to work...20 years in the same field ...cancer clinical trials...then back home for a repeat of the morning. I tell you all this because I subscribed to your channel a year ago. I know the purpose of your channel is to get people out there living in the moment...I want that badly...I just don't know how to free myself from the obligation I have accepted. Just thought you should know that many a day after work or late in the evening when I can't sleep, your videos keep my hope going. Thank you for your videos, the sharing of your life experiences as a Nomad...and mostly because it gives me an escape that keeps me dreaming of a day where my wife and I can just live for ourselves. I feel the only real failures are falling short of goals set for yourself. Of course failures are necessary to learn, so we must figure how to move forward. Being "a failure" coincides with labeling which has proven to be very destructive for humanity. So, the importance surrounding why it is we set certain goals is a large point of interest. Hard to remember while society is seemingly setting goals for us.

I’ve needed this today. I’ve been at a constant war with my mind lately about my lifestyle changes the past 2 years. Ever since my late 20’s, now at 30, I’ve moved to a more minimalistic, backpacking/hiking/outdoorsy lifestyle. I don’t own a lot. I enjoy being free. But I constantly feel the pressure of needing to “settle down”, with a home, a career, a family, etc. but I don’t truly want to be “stuck” in one spot, just working my life away. This video did really help me out a lot and I really appreciate it.

I chose 36 years ago to live as a adventure traveler. I actually started in 1977 when I was 21. I began by traveling 10,000 miles my first summer of 77. In the early 80's I decided I liked life on the road and would do it most of the year. I began working just the summers from Memorial Day to Labor Day then taking off to travel Sept-May. I have now lived this way for the past 36 years since 1982. Now I guess I should explain how I can live for 9 months on 3 months pay? I hitchhiked my first 5 years 1977-82, then I started bicycle touring, I now at 63 have never driven or had a license to drive a automobile. But I have bicycled about 300,000 miles all over the USA. My longest tour was 7000 miles in 1983-84 when I rode from NW Wyoming to upstate New York, to SW Arkansas then west to Tucson AZ and back to Wyoming in 6 weeks of pedaling and 8 months actual time. I stopped and worked halfway in Arkansas from late Oct 83 to late March 84. I recently retired early on SSi and since February have worked just part time last summer in Jackson WY then left and came south to where I live in Tucson AZ. next spring I am considering cycling to New York from Tucson. I will surely continue this free lifestyle.

That’s an amazing story. Do you have any regrets in your life and the way you lived it? Do you have family/kids? It would be nice to read a blog about your experiences. Hitchhiking?! 😧 Did you ever feel that was dangerous? What are the cons to living this way and the pros? Really interested. I have an irrational fear of homelessness I think. I don’t think I’d mind living in a van or something, but I’d like to be safe, and not into driving a lot. I’d like to pick a few beautiful places and stay at each one for 6 months at a time.

Bravo, I’m amazed by people who know what they want and even better are confidant in what they want . I was so abused, neglected, and injured by undiagnosed and untreated accidents (ie; head injury) it’s been one long saga of being punted around the football field by life trying this and that not knowing what the hell was happening. But I give myself an A for effort. I haven’t given up and am figuring out what I want at long last. My friend said a lot of people unfortunately don’t understand themselves very well.

After working the same job for over ten years I threw everything I owned in a storage locker and bought a one way one plane ticket to New Zealand. I just road tripped around the country for a year and it was the best time in my life. Waking up every morning, looking at a road map while eating breakfast and planning where you were going that day. Freedom. That being said I agree with you completely about learning a skill or trade before you set sail. It's hard to find a job on the go and you'll be up against a lot of other qualified people looking for work. You don't need to plan ahead but always be prepared.

Jenny...Well said. There are so many people who are so afraid of being their true selves around others. They can often be much older than 25 or even 40, but still show too many signs of being stuck at the teenage peer pressure conformity level. It's so overrated, when people think they are wise because they are older than teens. They bought into that overrated saying that "wisdom comes with aging". Of course they did! But it doesn't take any real effort or smarts to breath and age.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you-you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

This Scripture passage is also applicable because it highlights the truth that there are more important things to think about than material concerns like what we will eat or wear. If we spend our whole lives running after these things we could miss what is really more important in life. Things like how we love others and God.

And realize now I was miserable when I forced myself to live in one doing what I thought was supposed to do rather than what my intuition was guiding me to do. I sometimes think in evolutionary terms. By roaming around we are vectors. More opportunity establish territory, mix, etc. space spoofers will be the new mountain men. I would be a mountain man if I could. But I’ll try and be a mountain man of the mind first as the subconscious gets a lot of programming crap that needs to be deleted.

So, we will be dipping our toe in, as it were, and donging shorter trips to start with, and hopefully, he will see the benefit of living life by your own rules. Thanks again for the inspiration. Amen brother! I'm pushing 75 but can hold my own with men half my age. Why, because I worked my ass off for 25 years (most at Microsoft) and then QUIT before blood pressure, worries, anxieties, etc killed me. I QUIT at the age of 45 - almost 30 years ago. Twenty years ago I started RVing around the country & enjoying my passions in life - trapshooting, metal detecting and trying to help others along the way. I have a wonderful family - all grown and healthy. You hit the nail on the head - if you work your whole life just for the sake of the security money will bring you (false illusion), you might squeeze out 20 years of retirement but 10 years is more likely. Then, when you die, your kids get your "security blanket" and spend it within 2 or 3 years. I had a lot of people working for me at Microsoft and I saw multitudes decay within 5 years after they retired simply because they didn't know how to live happily. Follow your dreams and your heart & you will be following a very wise and happy person. I hope to meet you at one of your rendezvous soon - camp on my friend!

Wait. Microsoft was founded in 1975. If you were 75 in 2016, you were born in 1941. So you were 34 in 1975. Now, that's when the company was founded, and there were 3 employees. In fact, even by 1979, they only had 28 employees. By 1981, they had 128 employees. So say you got hired in 1980, which even then seems unlikely (there were only 40 employees). You would have been 37. You say you worked until you were 45. So that would be at most 8 years at Microsoft - yet you say you worked "most" of 25 years at Microsoft. It makes no sense. Even if you were one of those three founders who worked at the company beginning in 1975, you would still be 34 at the time. You say you retired at 45, so that would be 11 years. You say you worked "most" of your 25 years at microsoft - but even if you founded the company, it still wouldn't be most of your working years. Now if you WERE working for microsoft in 1980 - you would have been one of the original 40 employees - so you would have retired with a sizable amount of stock and retirement benefits. Being wealthy early is a lot different than what this guy is talking about.

Emergency Nomading for my sanity. I was very ill once (I had a breakdown) and had no money to speak of as I had spent it supporting myself when ill. To escape the city I invented a “camping kayak”. It is a two seater inflatable kayak. I was able to add a canopy over (like a tent) to sleep and live under. I essentially ‘camped’ on the water (no rental fees for sites) and can move around by train and cabs and walking as I carry my gear on a folding sack barrow. The longest I lived on the water in the kayak was six weeks without any real problems. I can load the kayak with two weeks worth of food and water at a push and off I go. I have paddled over ten miles in a session mostly into the wind without any problems and I was 55 and unfit. Nomading is the way to go. I moved to the Norfolk Broads UK so I could be next to the wonderful canals and spend my time there. As I am coming up for retirement I'm working on building a proper de lux camping kayak I can spend my retirement in. Kayaks have very few restrictions as far as regulations and insurance etc goes so no responsibilities as such. Life reduced to the minimum, with little expenses or overheads. Keep up the good work.

He worked at a Hospital in air-conditioning / refrigeration for 30 years, before that He worked on boats. He retired at 63 only to be dead at 65. He deserved so much better. Toward the end of His life, He would always tell me to enjoy life while I was young and healthy enough to enjoy it. Well, I must be hitting my second mid-life crisis :), because I am very unhappy living the life I am living now. My New Years resolution for this coming up Year 2017 is to go traveling and see some of the United States I have never seen before !!!! .... and I am going to do it .... if it kills me :). I am going to buy a minivan and hit the road with my two beautiful dogs. People who want to be full time fiction writers should look into the full time RV lifestyle. Cheaper cost of living and plenty of time for butt-in-seat writing. Each new book helps previous books sell, as well. Those books will be on sale for the rest of your life and there is no need to ever retire before you die. Just one of many ways to earn a living on the road.

What I'm seein' about all the people that "thinks" they could full time it in a RV. THEY are either ill advised or didn't do their home work before buyin' a RV. People need to rent an RV and use it for at least a month before they buy. We retired in 1980, sold our house, moved into a 40' 5th. wheel the first year we toured the US. Then moved to Mexico lived there full time for 13 yrs. the most stress free time in our lives. My husband died 7 yrs ago. If I was able I'd be there now. I wish every one good luck, learn how to live w/o things they don't really need, like clothes, shoes & handbags. Get down to the bare necissities. I really can be fun. He also had a good pension after being in the Teamsters Union for 28 yrs. We really did live the American Dream, while we were still healthy.

I’m turning 26 this year. I’ve spent a short time trying to enjoy life through the standard lifestyle suggestions. After eviction threats during COVID, I woke up to how little this world is concerned with my individual feelings, and thereto, anyone else’s- without a large bank account, that is. I’ve leveraged my unemployment benefits to transition into a nomadic lifestyle. The stress that I once considered normal is now free from my mind. I knew I was stressed, but, now, I realized how much of it was artificial; like your friend said “Safety/danger is mostly an illusion.” Written inside my tent.

Great video Bob. I read alot of Elizabeth Kubler Ross years ago. You have some really great information in this video. I recently read a quote that said Happiness is on the other side of your fears. I am getting ready to buy a used motorhome to finally live on my terms. years ago I used to move every two years people asked why do i always move I said because thats what makes life worth it. this is before I even knew about rv or van dwelling. i had some close calls in the past health wise so i realize you need to live life fully everyday as much as you can. fear kept me from living the last several years. no more. i work for myself now and im living again

Let's be real, most of the travel promoted by any vehicle dweller is also sitting still. Sitting still at 70 MPH. But what is your body doing? Sitting still. You'd have to walk your way to your destination to do anything other than sit. Everything else is just what your eyes see. And what your mind does. You should see lovely things! And you should think exciting thoughts! And they should be yours! Enjoy!

Forgot to mention that I did a simple math exercise on Social Security retirement income that kind of fits with what you say about retiring early as one can from the rat race. Essentially if you are mid to late 50s as I am then it does in fact make more sense to quit the rat race as soon as you can because the numbers from age 62 on are working against you. Retiring at 62 means that IF you make it to 80 then someone who waited to full retirement age has finally caught up to your earnings from SS. But as you point out by then the person who retired early has lived a much more fulfilling life. Also that same person who waited for full retirement and has more money hopefully put away is unfortunately likely to have it taken from them by medical expenses, nursing homes, etc and end up with nothing anyway. It's all a risky and bad bet to take as you also pointed out.

No you can't! "Living the way I want" is not really an option for anyone who has to support other people. I would love to be a nomad and travel the highways of North America and have dreamed of this since I was 18. However, I am in my late 50s and my reason for being on this planet is to ensure the safety, well-being, and happiness (now and in the future) of my family, which now consists of a wife, two daughters and two granddaughters, all of whom live together in a 700 square foot mobile home parked on a couple of acres in eastern Colorado. I have to do everything I can to make as much money as I can to ensure their survival and I am afraid that doing what I want takes far distant back seat to that.

Many of the things Bob does can still help you. Not everyone is highly nomadic, but can still live without waste and much more respectful to the environment and other people while being stationary. Or you can live a hybrid lifestyle by living nomadicaly throughout the summer then hunker down for the winter. It doesn't have to be one way or the other. You'll see more what I'm talking about as his series progresses.

True! Despite my disagreement with Bob, I am proud to do what I do and I get a great feeling when I visit home and see my family happy and content, even jammed together in that tiny box. My daughters and granddaughters ride horses and tend to the property. They visit neighbors and go to school and do crafts and art and play music. That's a good life and it is my labor that provides that.

I must admit I disagree with the premise of ensuring "the safety, well-being, and happiness (now and in the future)" of anyone else. Safety is pretty much an illusion (see above). Well-being and happiness are an individual choice and responsibility once adulthood is reached. The future is truly and totally unknown.

Living for ourselves and for today is not entirely selfish. Being this way, brings us joy. In being joyful, we bring joy and even hope to others; those who aren't doing so well for whatever reason and we do it just by being ourselves. Our experience gained from traveling and constantly figuring things out and improvising makes us able to give all kinds of simple low cost help to almost anyone we meet. This spreads the joy and the hope. No; not selfish at all. Wow! What an old fashioned idea!
