The very first shot is of Nathan Rubin and the string quartet. Nathan gave me viola lessons at Cal State Hayward - fifteen years after I saw him with Van Morrison, on that same tour. This video might have been made on the very night I went to the Santa Monica Civic Theater to see Van the man!

This live performance is Van Morrison and that studio version years ago in 1965 was Them, at least in general, that is the difference...! 🕵🏼♀️🙂👌🏿♥️👍🏿👍🏿

This 'live' version bears little resemblance to the studio recorded version of the esrly 1960's which blew me away when I heard it on Top of the Pops. What's become of Morrisons voice since°°°° he sounds bloody awful. Shades of the older Bob Dylan come to mind somehow.

Much love for Van, but this shows how full of ourselves we were in the 1970's. Compared to the "Them" version, this is a bloated wreck of a fine tune, but that was the status quo of the era - excess.

In his early shows he was either spot-on or seemingly disinterested and bored. By the 70's he was rushing, and just going through the motions. This was one of his better shows. Too bad.

Difficult to listen to at times whereas the original with Them was hypnotic. Morrison sounds like he's straining to get through the lyrics and the arrangement is far too far off the mark from the original.
