Van Pelt is rarely so callous. She is usually the sensitive one. Harsh words but I'm fairly certain she didn't mean to sound so harsh. I find myself on the verge of tears every time Jane is forced to face his family's tragedy and his personal demons.
@eventhorizon12
@eventhorizon12 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, I'm fairly sure that in that moment, she did mean to sound that harsh. She has a habit of being overly sensitive and rude about her opinions, when others don't share them. She got mad and wanted to make Jane feel bad, plain and simple. Maybe she realized, she'd gone too far afterwards, but it doesn't excuse that kind of bad behavior.

@@eventhorizon12 Bit of a late reply, but it's important to remember Jane is doing the same thing. Working his charlatan magic to make himself seem like he's innocently joking while mocking both her and her beliefs as though she was a child. She lashes out, and Jane forgives her because he realizes a similar thing. He's being disrespectful to her, and not just her, but the people in the case they're working.

@EliCross She didn't intend to be mean, she was just angry that her beliefs, which are obviously important to her, were being mocked by both Jane and Rigsby. I, for one have been in the situation when in the heat of an arguement when I've said something that was maybe true, but definitely should not have been said. Also Jane is so good at being flippant its easy to temporary forget just how broken he is.

I know Van Pelt overstepped her bounds, but she did apologize immediately, and only made her outburst after being mocked by her colleagues. And you know what? Even if there's nothing at all on the other side of this life, Patrick Jane keeps his family alive inside his heart, and it's pretty clear Angela very much hated the disdain and mockery her peers at the carnival no doubt lavished on those they considered stupid and gullible. She hated it enough to leave permanently, and she begged Patrick to stop his own conning work and him brushing her off led to the ruin of everything. In any way Angela survived, she was there watching Van Pelt stand up to Jane. I'll bet Patrick saw her in the reprimand *and* the apology.

Van Pelt just lashed out because Jane and Rigsby were making fun of her belief in spirits and such. She realized immediately what a hurtful thing she'd just said to Jane. Later on this episode, he's told something that only his wife could have known, and he's (privately) not as skeptical..

I think it was someone she loved like a sister. It's likely Van Pelt's cousin Yolanda communicated a message to her from this lost sister, or pretended to. Even with everything Van Pelt experienced she still believed in Yolanda, which makes me wonder if perhaps her cousin (gifted or not) was actually a sincere person.

I don't believe for one second Van Pelt was trying to be mean. With Rigsby and Jane mocking her belief, she was only proving to Jane that anything is possible and his family could try to reach him from the beyond. If she was so mean, she wouldn't apologize. And let's not forget seasons later, Patrick did communicate with his daughter

I truly believe that she was extremely childish for bringing up his wife and child. She knows how much that hurts him. She was being that way I feel because he proved her wrong. This whole episode she was being so childish like she loved seeing Jane get made fun of because he didn’t believe in physics and I think it was very wrong of her.

💔😔 ...I share Grace's thought and it is obvious that she did not want to be bad, she simply defended her belief and gave her a chance to think of something other than what we can see... (when the only bad guys there were them making fun of what she I believed) The fantastic thing about this series is that there was always a margin to think that there could be something further, without deviating from the theme even with the management of skepticism, the series did not completely close to presenting a single idea as valid ... there was that "what if?" that was maintained even until the last season with what happened to Vega.

@tabithaprovan957

@Chris Travolta it was certainly more about Jane and Lisbon than Jane and RJ. Red John was deliberately nebulous and very rarely showed up at all; we never go in depth with his character or who he really was because we didn't need to: he was an evil dumpster fire who needed to die. That's it. The Mentalist is about...the mentalist. Jane's journey is center stage. But if anyone shared that stage, it was absolutely Lisbon. From Watson, to Beatrice, we remember the loyal helpers more than the villains. Enemies are for killing, friends are for living.

Jane didn't believe in anything spiritual etc. And it's people who believer there's just one life who value it more, who know that there are mistakes that cannot be corrected or properly forgiven for, who take their behaviors more seriously. Jane's one of those people. That's why his pain and regret drove him so deeply. He had no other way for atonement.
