Lycoming has updated engine prices for the remainder of 2023, to include price reductions for standard experimental engines bought through Van's, and increases for their custom engines. In addition, a few configuration changes have been made to the way their engines are packaged for new orders.

Thank you for the update. It’s a small move in the right direction. I’m rooting for ULPower in hopes of some real competition to bring these outrageous prices for static technology back down into the stratosphere. Also, with some competition Lycoming might improve their engines. For example, selecting better, corrosion resistant materials so heroic actions aren’t needed to prevent corrosion when not flying frequently. Hey, I can dream!

Awesome to hear prices are becoming more realistic. Hopefully prices continue to fall.

You may be able to buy it pretty cheap in the near future.

Lycoming should be supplying all their engines with fadec technology.

Probably 200 to 300 years from now......certified GA piston engines will be FADEC. 🤪

Thanks for the update Greg. My engine is on order, looking at a December 2024 delivery. Should mesh nicely with my build timeline.

They are the first US corporation lowering their prices that I have purchased from. The suits in the USA are going to have a difficult time seeing their big salaries and bonuses disappear. They still think they are worth 2-500X the average worker, with most outsourcing cheap junk from China.

Why this guy still has a job at vans is beyond me! Check out their business announcement, under his leadership they are not doing too hot!

A 3 year wait for an antiquated simple tractor motor is asinine. Do they have one guy with a Dremel carving them out of a hunk of iron?
@gregpdx

It's a three-year backlog of custom engine builds already scheduled, not a three-year wait for parts. And no, they have a team of highly skilled people building the custom engines every day. It's just been in very high demand.

Hand chisel, no dremel allowed. 3 year lead time is an absolute joke. How does leadership get away with that?!! Train and hire more people. And add shifts. Lead time comes down. It’s not rocket science. Sell more engines, make more money. What’s the bottleneck? Chinesium shortage? Labor?
@Captndarty
@Captndarty Жыл бұрын
@@gregpdx it can’t take more than half a day to build and assemble one of these simple engines. Let’s play an imaginary numbers game. If they put out 10 engines a week that’s almost 1600 engines in three years. Hard to believe they’ve got a backlog of that many just for custom engines.

The old adage of Fast/ Reliable/Cheap, and you only get to pick two of those applies. Building Reliably and relatively Cheap seems to be what they're aiming for.

ah yes, airframe and engine wars. large mature airframers have learned to offer at least two engine manufacturer options. maybe something to consider.

They were/are trying to price themselves out of business. Sell to the classes, live with the masses.

I will never have the means to even go to flight school but it's nice knowing that those that can afford to build their own aircraft are getting a bit of a break in this recession. Prices going DOWN? It sounds like a miracle these days.
