Achieve original factory color with fast, odorless, safe, durable, one-step cold bluing. No repetitive applications necessary. Blue scratches, holster wear, and scuff marks without affecting original bluing. Remove superficial rust quickly and easily.

Dr Garry, I ordered your product to repair damage to my Springfield 1911. I read through the directions , talked with you and went ahead with the instant blue. I was amazed how terrific damaged side looked! I will have to use your blue to match the repaired side as it looks a lot better than the side that wasn't damaged. Thanks very much, Mike Calandrino

Picked up a small bottle of this from you at the Knoxville Gun Show today... Look forward to giving it a try in my "dabbling" (you might remember me based on that word)... I have an older "3 screw" ruger blackhawk in 30 carbine with a bit of wear from the previous owner keeping it in a leather holster which will be my first candidate I believe...

I do it this way, the pre-work takes much longer. Like prep a car for paint. Doesn't take long to paint it. But I agree. This is the best way . Good post.

I just bought a quart to redo a Remington 513t that I trash picked. Gun fires perfect. I refinished the stock and now have the barrel stripped of all bluing. Most was gone anyway. I have been a loyal customer of Van's gun blue for 10 years. I first found your product at a gun show in Philadelphia. Anyway, I want to reblue this barrel. I am going to try to dip it in a pvc tube I made, like in the video. I tried before to reblue a barrel by brushing it on and gave up. My arm almost fell off, working it in with a toothbrush. I hope this dipping method works. Any other tips you can give me before I attempt this process????? Should I maybe heat the barrel to 90 degrees???? Any advice would be appreciated. John Taggart.

So if I have a ding on the end of my barrel should I sand it and what type of sanding paper? Then after it would be okay to blue my barrel? The gun is already blued

I used this on a pistol I acquired 2nd hand. It was obvious it had been carried in a holster a lot because the bluing was rubbed off in the normal places, but there were no major dings, dents, or scratches, which is one reason I purchased it. I like the Van's because all I needed was a hair-dryer, some cleaning patches, a soft-bristle toothbrush, and some degreaser. I had Goof Off on hand for grease stains and it worked quite well. When I applied the Van's after heating, it ran right off the piece, so I developed a technique of putting it on a cleaning patch and rubbing it over one of the affected areas with my left hand while doing the same with the toothbrush with my right hand. I did this for 5 minutes on each area. Van's did NOT match the existing finish, which was more-or-less black, instead it is a dark rich blue. Close inspection of the piece shows this difference, but I am happy with the job as casual inspection makes the finish look as if the blue had never been worn off. If I had been willing to strip the old blue off the entire piece and then redo with Van's, I would have come out with a beautiful blue resembling some of the old Colt automatics, but there was no need to do so.

Looks good in general as a coating, but it is difficult to tell from the resolution and lighting of the video... can you get a glossy royal blue with this process that seems to never be available on modern guns?

You can send guns in to Colt and they will do a Royal Blue for you.
@anotherOneMore7
@anotherOneMore7 7 жыл бұрын
Robert, You are correct that Colt will blue a gun if you send it but ONLY if: 1- only if it is a Colt; and 2- only if after they see it they approve it as having enough metal on it to refinish, When the Colt employee from the department who does the bluing was asked if a New In Box 1911 standard blue Colt would meet their requirements, he refused to give an answer. It sounds to me like they don't really want to do it and want to always have an excuse not to. Anyway, I don't have a Colt and don't want to buy one for re-bluing with that kind of answer from Colt.

I have now used this product (just today). I found it did not match my existing blackish finish but instead gave a nice blue, like you see on some of the early Colt automatics. I think you would like the result if you stripped the existing finish and redid with this. Note that Garry Buchanan has said the gun will rust if you just oil it after doing this. You need to use gun wax he says, so I just ordered some.

I was reading below and some people seem to have problems getting all the oil off this guarantees to remove the oil 1> use brake rotor cleaner let fully dry 2>put all your parts in powdered bentonite clay "crushed kitty litter" overnight. 3>rinse with purified water from wally mart. use rubber gloves by this stage because the surface metals are so void of oil it will suck the oil off your fingers and leave a nice blued finger print after its been VAN-atized which is great for 1st grade art class but not for your 1911.

barrel was cleaned with rubbing alcohol, dried, heated to 90 degrees and then dipped. when I put the oil on it and hit it extremely lightly with 0000 steel wool, the bluing came off. . the gun was made in 1937. do you think it is because of the metal

Garry In the other video you brushed on a coat of Van's for 5 minutes (after heating with a hair dryer) so which procedure is better for bluing...soaking in a container for 30 seconds or the other way?? What happens if you soak a barrel or any other part for a longer period?

Gary, the gun blue did not work. As soon as I wiped the barrel off, the gun blue came with it. Back to plain steel now. Sending barrel to a professional to try to salvage it.

you had oil on the barrel most likely. that is what happens if you do. clean the barrel again and use a toothbrush no cotton balls or cue-tips. using oooo steel wool and than apply the gun oil that will turn the gun dark. call if you have any questions. Garry

What about just doing the slide on a Smith & Wesson model #915 that has an aluminum frame, which is in fine shape. The slide just looks old & dull. These were not high blued slides to begin with, kinda a budget model #5906. Will this work, or must it have been Blued at the factory first ?

@Foche_T._Schitt
@Foche_T._Schitt 2 жыл бұрын
@@badiuzzamansatti6391 Simple answer, apply gun oil and leave them alone. Long answer, watch Legacy Collectibles and Mark Novak video's. One shows you how collectors can tell, the other shows you how you can stop oxidization in the least destructive way. The guns were rust blued. There is no "instant" rust blue. There is no restoration that isn't suspicious looking. There is no instant blue that wont rub off with a Miracle Cloth. There is no instant blue that doesn't promote rust. Links usually get ghost blocked so see Unclenick's 2005 post on the FiringLine forum by doing a search.
