132 New Van Preview - Renault Kangoo Micro Camper.
Here is a quick preview of my new van bought in October 2018, a Renault Kangoo Micro camper. I've almost finished the van conversion and hoping it will be ready for a trip to The Lake District National Park in April to restart full time vanlife.
This tiny home has the same layout as my first van build the vw caddy that I converted in 2014. There aren't many options in such a small van. Unlike my first van though, this van has a Chinese diesel heater installed and this makes huge difference during the winter.

UPDATE August 2020:
I sold this van and with the money I saved living in such a cheap van I bought my dream van, a VW T5 and will be converting my new van ready for full time vanlife again in 2021.

Yea the heater was a must as hard to insulate a van with so many windows. I think I may need a vent fan for the summer

Great to see you making more videos. Inspired by your videos I recently purchased a LWB Peugeot Partner van at auction and have converted it into a very basic camper - just a removable bed/sofa, some carpet and thermal wrap insulation. Hopefully going to use it to explore the UK when it gets a bit warmer, tried sleeping in it a couple of weeks back and it was a bit freezing :)

Yea that van is a fair bit bigger than mine, ideal. I'm not sure the bubble wrap does much on its own for insulation, from videos I've seen it's used more as a moisture trap with other insulation between two layers of it. I'd recommend a Chinese heater for now. Thanks for your comment, be interesting to see your van in a video when it's warmer

Nice stealth build there. With the seats out and the bed it its place how will you get around mot's. Or have you done something else to get around that?

The one thing that bogs me is the bed lenght, rest is fine, but if i remember with rear seats down from back to front seats is about 1,67m and that is not even close to 6'6 :/ i remember when i put my motorcycle inside a kangoo, my bike is 2.2m and front wheel was in between front seats, and rear doors were open, rear tire was sticking out...i want to build one mini camper for me, but it wories me if i get classic length of kangoo, i can't fit in and i am relatively short 5'8...should i get classic or maxi version of kangoo?

Follow up question! From empty to full how many liters/ gallons is your tank and what mileage are you getting. I just picked up my kangoo (2011) 1.6 16v petrol and from empty to full is 30.77lts or 7.5gallons approx.. but I only get 173miles to the tank or 24mpg......something not right!

There crap around town, a lot better at a constant 50mph . Don’t even think of E10 , it’s utter shite. Check all the usual things. Oil, air filter, coolant. I put a fuel flush through twice a year on longer runs.

Thanks for the reply found out they came standard with expression and trekka models just ordered second hand from a breaker on eBay didn’t know they existed until I watched your video will fit straight in to standard van According to the breaker

Hi , do you have to notify insurance and any difficulties when it comes to MOT test?

Insurance companies usually ask to you inform them of permanent changes to a vehicle, when the day comes to sell it I will put seats back in. Passed mot last year no problem.

Hi. I have a Berlingo camper and want to fit a diesel heater. Is your's 2kw or 5kw? I heard the 2kw have a noisy fan but wondered if the 5kw would be overkill. Thanks.

Hi, I chose the 2kw version and have read a few people saying they're all the same kW, I have no idea but 2kw is plenty. Hard to know about fan noise without comparing, doesn't bother me though, I'd never even thought about it

Coming along nicely. I have been thinking about getting a dometic cool box. How do you find it and what size is the one you have?

I have the 22 litre box, I found that if I put 2kg of ice in and filled it up with cans it would stay ice cold all week, even though the ice melted after four days or so, the water was still cold enough. The test will be when it comes to summer, I will do a full review once the weather warms up

You are right, it's down to money, I need to save whilst living in a cheap van so I can afford a bigger van in the future

I definitely agree with reliability of of the VW, I have had to spend out on this van already. I'm hoping I can save enough for upgrade at some point, even if next year

I'm excited at exploring a completely new area for me, but always listen to tips and advice, so if you know good long walking routes or park ups that would be great. I'm using park4night app but it's not overly populated with park ups in the lakes

I think I became used to the colour, didn’t like it to begin with when I filmed this. My new van is white and I will eventually paint it a dark grey
