Today is a very special day. Not only is it the day we review the fourth medium van built on the PSA Group’s EMP2, but we finally get a Toyota commercial vehicle review on to the KZfaq channel - so say hello to a very nice-spec Toyota Proace medium panel van!
What’s that you say? It looks a lot like the Vivaro, Expert and Dispatch? Well, yes, but the ones we reviewed were not as high spec as this Proace.
At the "Design" trim level there are lots of extras to enjoy - some of which you’ll no doubt have noticed and started licking your lips about - check out those alloys - so let’s get this Vanarama Road Test started!
Before we get started, we just wanted to take a moment to say that we hope you enjoy watching this review, and, if you do, please subscribe to our channel & click the bell to get notified when we post more content just like this.
And don’t forget that if you’re ever in the market for a new van or pickup truck, head to Vanarama.com! Now, with that done… let’s get stuck in!
In our opinion, this is one of the best-looking EMP2 platform sharers. Toyota have done a good job making it feel like their van even though it shares SOOO much with 3 other vans on the market right now. But it has:
• Front parking sensors & rear parking sensors
• Front fog lights
• Body-coloured bumpers*
• 17" machined-face alloy wheels (5-double-spoke)
• Body-coloured door mirrors
• Body-coloured door handles
• Smart Entry + Push-button Start
• Toyota Safety Sense (Pre-Collision System with pedestrian detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, Cornering Lights, Head-Up Display and Acoustic and Athermic Windscreen
• Toyota Pro-Touch 7" screen with navigation, voice recognition and Wi-Fi connectivity
• White TFT screen
• Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)
• Smart Entry & Push-button start
Nice kit… but let’s check the loading bay before we head out on the road.
Back Door height: 1.2m
Back Door width: 1.2m
Side Sliding Door height: 1.2m
Side Sliding Door width: 0.9m
Load Space Length: 2.5m
Load Space Smart Cargo Length: 3.6m
Load Space Height: 1.4m
Load Space Width: 1.6m
Load Space Width (between arches): 1.25m
Loading bay volume: 5.8m3
Maximum payload (2.0-litre engine): 1400kg
Number of Euro pallets: 3
Engine: 2.0 Diesel (180 DIN hp), 8-Speed Automatic
Fuel Economy: 36.2-39.2 mpg
Acceleration (0-62 mph): 8.5 seconds
So, how do we finish this one?
Well, the Toyota Proace is as functional as its brethren from the PSA Group. Spacious, great payload, solid and smooth drive, nice gear box, etc, etc, you’ve heard it all before.
But one thing that does stick with us is the excellent trim level we got to review. We’ve had several low trim levels in recently, and it was great to see such a high-quality interior matched by an excellent and attractive exterior.
We can get behind the Proace, and we can get behind Toyota pushing the PSA Group to let them make their version as “Toyota” as possible. This is a great medium van that we'd have no hesitation in recommending to anyone.

I went from a Hilux invincible to this exact spec of Proace about 6 months ago and I love it. Very comfy and good on the road. Has lots of driver aids that wasn’t even mentioned in this video (keyless entry, adaptive cruise control, tyre pressure sensors to name a few) and is a very nice place to be for a long drive. Auto box makes it very easy to drive and HUD is surprisingly useful. So far so good! Oh, and flappy paddles is good for engine braking down a hill and keeping in a gear when towing. Only negative is the mount for the gear wheel thing sticks out a bit far into the leg area of a middle passenger making long journeys pretty uncomfortable.
@vanaramauk
@vanaramauk 4 жыл бұрын
Tom here: Absolutely, it's packed with kit - the HUD is a personal favourite feature. Yep... the gear stick mount... it's the same on all the Groupe PSA vans - the person in the middle has room for only one leg.

The Toyota appears to be the most expensive option available on this platform but you get what you pay for. I went for the two litre diesel Expert Pro because it edged the fuel economy figures. The excellent Peugeot diesel consistently manages well over 50mpg on motorways and still in the high forties around town. It provides all the power you need below 2000rpm, producing maximum torque at 1750rpm, so that probably explains it.

Great reviews Tom. Decided to get one it’s just which manufacturer. Did you drive the PSA vans at night. How good are the headlights? Testers never seem to mention this? I prefer the Toyota with the Citroen the least attractive front end but Citroen are the only one to have the option of Xenon projector lights which should be much better. Would like to know how good the standard lights are though if you had chance to use them? Thanks

The reality is that all those bits and trim details, are all fine and dandy. BUT the typical fleet owner will count their pennies and trow the options to the bin! Pure and simple. ;-) Not a single one of those details makes for better, faster or cheaper deliveries! But they do add a pretty sum by the end of the day. By simply adding cost where usually cost is not desired. Example: Your typical fine looking alloy wheel, looks better indeed. But it's way pricier, repairs are a "bitch", it's heavier than it's steel counterpart, don't provide better economy or safety, etc. So you're paying for the looks and ABSOLUTELY nothing else! With this said, options are just fine, but having the "choice" of your options its the real advantage. ;-)

Maybe contain a extra segments on the end that highlight features that don't come down to your personal opinion, like the trim, these are economical/comfort vehicles. If it doesn't fit in either of those categories, it's an extra that 99% of us won't ever get unless we buy ourselves one of those. One thing that I've seen missing is noise insulation, that's one comfort that is left out of most of the reviews, wish you'd include it. One more point I'd like to point out that alloy wheels do improve milage of the cars and reduce break and suspension wear of course with the caveat of them being more expensive and can be dented if improperly handled.

I’m buying Vauxhall as Toyota won’t give configuration I want and Toyota way too expensive, I’ve always been Toyota fan but it would cost me £8/10,000 more to get 6 Seats so went for vivaro sportive which has good trim levels and lots extra tech otherwise very similar

@@vanaramauk Thanx for replying Tom” , That’s why I said because Japanese car manufacturers have the worst infotainment systems fitted in their cars e.g: Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Honda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Daihatsu, Isuzu, Suzuki, and the worst of all LEXUS because it’s a luxury brand, Each and every single brand competes with each other who fits the crappiest system in their cars.

Paddles in a van, they are about has useful has a tit on a trouts back. How does that cheap bit of rotating plastic vaguely resemble a mobile office , the transit knocks spots off it, although the Transit dash needs covers to stop nasty reflections, mpg is impressive though much better than the Transit 2.0 Auto which real world is 32.4
@vanaramauk
@vanaramauk 4 жыл бұрын
Tom here: I agree with your comments about paddles - although they work well in the Proace. I like the "mobile office", gives me somewhere to rest my notepad while I'm writing the Top 5s. I also agree that the Transit is really good - it's a bit of a benchmark van.

Worst shit ever produced in the last 30 years, 15 of these nightmares at work. The anoying energy saving turning off the interior lights after 5 minutes. The stupid heater blows air way to high up on the screen and makes a fucking a ice cake everytime it snows. The anoying roll back that can't be turned of and won't release the brakes when you want tomdrive away. The chassi is weak as fuck with cracking windscreen as result. The front axel needs to be moved forward and rearaxel backwards, as now with load its impossible to get any real weight over the front axel even if you load it directly behind the seat. It also makes it hopeless with a trailer on the hitch Oyeah, on of that every single one has already started to rust

At least two of those complains, interior light and roll back feature can be set electronically. Talk to your dealer... it's part of configurable features. In fact all modern vehicles have a bunch of options to turn on/off accordingly. This one is no different.

Your lucky it’s rubbish, I had one for a year and sold it. Suspension was soft loaded up like on overloaded estate car, the doors creak under body flex when it drops off a curb. I'm not a fan of the new PSA group chassis for these vans. The design is ugly in my opinion. Too curvy and looks like a box on wheels. I loved the previous generation! The German duo, Mercedes and VW, are too pricey, and VW has become generic. I like the Renault Trafic and Nissan NV400. Cheap, good looking, and great value for money! Ford... horrible, in Belgium and rest of Europe, they're bad, I hate Fords. but I see in the UK and Ireland they're going strong.
