Vancouver Canada history and cartography is explored and examined from vintage maps as well as historical illustrations. In the video we discuss various historical aspects about the evolution of the city of Vancouver.
For instance in the video we talk about the indigenous tribes from the area that included the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tseil-Waututh. We discuss the founding of the city by Jose Maria Navaraez and George Vancouver. We also discuss William Van Horne and the Canadian Pacific Railway as well as the various agricultural resources and saw mills that help rise Vancouver's economy.

Lot of work & detail for the artist to create the map and roughly to scale. impressive how they spent time on the quality

Great video, I enjoyed it a lot. Some small tips: - It's pronounced Fray-sier like the TV show, not Fra-zer. Also it's the BurraRd inlet, not Burrand. - #5 did not get labelled - these are " marks, repeating the lines above. 3-7 are all Public Schools.

6:29 That building with the fence in the water was a crematory. I have seen the location on other early maps.

"The original settlement, named Gastown, grew up on clearcuts on the west edge of the Hastings Mill logging sawmill's property, where a makeshift tavern had been set up on a plank between two stumps and the proprietor, Gassy Jack, persuaded the curious millworkers to build him a tavern, on 1 July 1867. From that first enterprise, other stores and some hotels quickly appeared along the waterfront to the west. Gastown became formally laid out as a registered townsite dubbed Granville, B.I. ("B.I" standing for "Burrard Inlet"). As part of the land and political deal whereby the area of the town site was made the railhead of the CPR, it was renamed "Vancouver" and incorporated shortly thereafter as a city, in 1886."
