Vancouver CHINESE NEW YEAR PARADE 2019 - YEAR OF THE PIG
In Vancouver Chinatown, on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019
The parade was several hours long. It started out nice and sunny, but by the time it was over, snow was coming down hard and fast.
This video is the long version, where I tried to include as much as I could. I will upload a shorter "highlights" version later when I find time to re-edit.

Vancouver Chinese New Year Parade
In 2019 Vancouver celebrates Chinese New Year with the 46th annual Chinese New Year Parade in Chinatown on February 10th. It’s an impressive event!
The Year of the Pig celebrations begin on Tuesday, February 5th, and the parade takes place on the following Sunday.
A Vancouver cultural festivity that you won’t want to miss is Chinatown‘s New Year’s parade. There is no need to travel abroad to experience China - on this day you’ll find yourself surrounded by Chinese culture, the occasional colourful dragon, and numerous bands and people in costumes marching down the streets.
In 2019 the parade celebrates the Year of the Pig and the event’s 46th year with about six dozen entries comprising over 3000 participants. Expect to see marching bands, Chinese lion dancing and entries by numerous community businesses and non-profit groups.
At Vancouver’s Chinese New Year Parade sidewalks along the route are packed full of people, the sounds of fire crackers fill the air and Chinatown is without a question the most exciting place in the city to be.
When and Where
Vancouver’s Chinese New Year’s parade happens in Chinatown from 11 am until about 1:30 pm. Get there early to find a place you can see the road, somewhere along Pender, Gore or Keefer near the entrance gate to Chinatown. Unless it’s raining and miserable, prepare yourself for the crowds - the throng of people is a cultural experience in itself.
New Year Parade Route
The parade goes down West Pender under the Chinatown Millennium Gate, up Gore Street, and then back up along Keefer. In total the route is about 1.3 kilometres in length and lasts for two or more hours.

I watched one parade and it’s all because my dad chose the wrong day to take me to Chinatown for dumplings. This was in like 1999 and we left before it was over because I hate fireworks

I remember that day, it started snowing like, a half an hour into the parade (dance). It wasn’t that bad, we were all moving so we didn’t feel the cold as much. We were all wearing like, 3 thick layers of clothing inside and had gloves on. I think the audience had the worst experience cuz I heard they were all freezing in the cold lol

Yes, I didn't bring gloves because it started out a nice day. By the end of the parade my fingers were numb from holding the gimbal/camera. I ducked into the Sun Yat-Sen Garden gift shop to warm up until I could feel my fingers again. Good times! 👍😉 Worth it though. Got some nice videos that day. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Thanks for watching, I know it's a long video, but it was a long parade. I didn't wear gloves so my fingers were numb from the cold by the end. The snow kept falling after the parade and I kept shooting. I'll edit together some of the snow footage and I'll upload them when done.
