These were pretty thrashed. This video shows how to fix them.

I remember learning its not about perfect. Sometimes perfect looks bad. It is about what's pleasing to the eye that counts. If the eye can't see the imperfections it's right. Great content sir. Looking forward to the next adventure of the Vancouver Drypentry.

Perfection, Nevada. Where the kitchen drawers are perfect and where the giant Graboids from the movie Tremors live.

Always so good to watch Ben. I use double sided tape to line up the drawers and find it way faster, also limited success with couple of dabs of CA glue and activator. It will often remove the finish ( especially melamine) but is hidden anyway. Looking forward to seeing what you do in the new place.

Put painters tape on both pieces before using the CA glue. Drill holes, remove drawers front, remove tape, reinstall.

My English teacher in high school would never give someone a 100% on a test. The best you could do was 99% for the same reason. The world needs more of this! My uncle always said about perfection “you can’t see it from the moon”. Keep up the great work and keep on doing you.

Love your work. A bit of further advice for everyone as I have made thousands of drawers. Adjust your door to the edge of the carcass. Measure your door height. Measure all four doors together with no space. Divide the difference by 3 and find shims to suit . Aline the bottom drawer front flush with the bottom of the carcass or with the bottom of the door which should be the same. Use shims as you work up. Shim between the door and the drawer front around 1.5 mm in my language. Adjust door away slightly when done. I would suggest putting handles where you desire either by making a trip to the hardware store or counter boring just stay no less than 10 mm from the top of the internal drawer edge. Good luck everyone.

I would suggest people put handles where they desire too. But since this was pro bono and going to the hardware store costs me time and resources, this ended up being where I desired😂

LOL I don't have to try very hard to add my little (usually large) imperfection to whatever I do ... it just happens naturally! 😆

The lower draw handle where it is looks good the rest of the 3 could be in the middle even with short screws by drilling a "Counter sink" hole to the depth required. There is always an alternate way around things. My wife always asks why it takes me so long to get something done I have to live with, my mind goes through the 100 ways it could be done and picks the best method in time. As an example we had a kitchen designed and purchased the materials, didn't put it all together for 2 months afterwards, used everything but the design ended up being better and quite different.

imperfection is only noticeable depending on the angle of the view...(much like life in general) nice that you can do entire video sitting down! :)

On ToH, Tom Silva did handles on drawer fronts and he purposefully offset them as he went down the stack of drawers so they look 'centered' from standing height. The real things is do whatever you want and nobody will notice/question.

Lol, “countersinking goes a long way”….I hope not…then it may be too deep!
@william18miller2 жыл бұрын
yeah.. I was wondering if those screws would end up poking through the front after countersinking!

Bin dare, dun dat. Now I secure fronts with CA glue/activator but separated from the surfaces by painters tape for easy removal if necessary. Fronts are screwed on through 3/8" holes with fender washers for adjustments that will inevitably be needed sooner or later. GK

I really need your help. I took old Sheetrock off the walls but left the ceiling. The ceiling is brush textured from the 70s I don’t know how to put new Sheetrock up and tape and mud it in the ceiling corners. Do you have a video on this?

If you cut the drawer front from recycled doors, how did you finish the edges?
@vancouvercarpenter2 жыл бұрын
Not the drawer front. Just the board that it gets screwed to.

Once you start to talk philosophy and considering divinity of perfection, you know you're coping and should put your hands up, satisfied with your own mortal standards.
@Mr2greys2 жыл бұрын
I tried to do it and got all frustrated and ended up getting a guy come in. What he did was get the bottom one true and then used a paint stirring stick to make the gap consistent between the drawer above and the door next to it. Stupid simple as it gives you an automatic 1/8" gap
