A couple more interesting things about 2’s Vandham: -Vandham is not his birth name this time, he was actually born Urayan nobility and took the name of a folk hero when he left high society following the death of his son. Having a dead child explains a lot of his actions towards Rex, and he even says Poppi reminds him of his kid in battle dialog. I personally think that the idea of Vandham belonging to an important house may be revisited in a later incarnation in a future game. -While he doesn’t have the prominent facial hair of his predecessors, his blade Roc does, having facial feathers mimicking Vangarre’s Waluigi stache. -He starts out as an antagonist like the Gears and Saga versions, but is really just faking it so he can get a chance to fight the Aegis.

I think it's also cool to note that his sidekicks Yew and Zuo also make reoccurring appearances.

I will have my heart out to Vandham in XenoBlade X such a great guy....truly

This is a great video and all, but I think Derrick could have waited a bit longer until he had reached chapter 5 or even 6 of Xenoblade 3. Without throwing spoilers here, we who have played the game all know how the vandham name will come back and I think having reached that part of the game would have been beneficial to this kind of video. I'll just leave it at that.

My first Vandham would be Vanderkaum from Sage Episode 2...though I don't remember him all that well. Lots of things going on in that game that overshadowed him in my memories 😅

interesting vis. did not think a character like xandham would be cid for these games. I personally thought each interaction of the xeno series were completely separate with no connective tissue. the more you know.

My first Vandham would be xb1's, but 2's left a really big impression on me, just like the rest of the game I also really like xb3's for the short moment we meet him

There might be another allusion to him being the Xeno-universe's version of Cid, as he's at least the 4th Vandham since the studio aligned themselves with Nintendo, and the Cid from Final Fantasy 4 (the 4th Final Fantasy game made for Nintendo consoles, if we don't count the SaGa or Mana renaming) sports a very prominent mask that covers most of his face, and has prominent facial hair to boot.

I recall noticind the connection emidiatly when i met the X version of him, it went as far as me thinking Vandham was his actual name in 1. A similar character exists in pokemon, Sailor Huey!

I hope the Vandham archetype won't turn into a kind-off meme in the series for a character who will apear and die for the character development of someone else, like most FE-Dads or Leomon from Digimon.

Xenoblade got a Biggs and Wedge too, in the form of Zuo and Yew.

Anyone asking for a Xenoblade X sequel (and not a port) gets my like. I kinda like the name "Vangarre" a bit better than Vandham. And the square-tache nickname too. I just hope either one of those (if not both) make a return.

I don't know why he keeps popping up. Whether Monoloth wants their own Cid or Impa, or they just like the references to past games and real life actors. Surprised Xenosaga never had their own version. But 2's Vandham and Geurnica are my favorites. I love the gritty and gruff larger than life posturing Simon Thorpe gives him.

Started with Xenogears but I kinda do not like the character because when you have played two or more Xeno games the fate of the character by name becomes predictable with only a few exceptions.

I loved XC2 and XC3, but really disliked Vandham in 2. Couldn’t really care for him in 3 either :-).
