Agreed. It seems we have less good audio engineers than we do fine players. Give a guy a microphone and some cheep wire and "bingo!": He is an engineer! Also, do we really need a "philharmonic orchestra" to do right by Spohr?

This orchestra is of the same size as they were in the time of Spohr. The music is written exactly for this formation, no more, no less.

But the echoing acoustics of the hall may have hampered his sound being heard in the quieter nuanced phrases and and the conductor of the orchestra should have ensured a sound check with him , if they had had the possibility of a previous short test before the official opening time of the concert when the public could enter the hall ! This still occurs before many public concerts . Language difficulty perhaps being Spanish ?
