A good warrior tanking guide with depth and clear demonstration of the nuances. Next, you could do a how-to for any notoriously difficult, high-level dungeon pulls. Specifically dungeons that the warrior would likely encounter when going for the pre-bis item sets.

I've been playing classic for a couple of months now and grinded my way to 51 by running only dungeons. I tried a lot of things and made a TON of mistakes for so long, but eventually, I figured out a rotation that worked for me. I came here today to learn something, and I literally do the exact same rotation for AoE threat and everything else you said. Thank you for confirming this was the right way of doing it!

Excellent refresher course. Played a Prot Warrior in Vanilla and BC and completely forgot about stance dancing, I forgot that Thunderclap was a battle stance move. omg I forgot so much. I have not tanked at all since bc, seeing the old rotation was good. I feel more confident about being a Warrior again in Classic.

Nice tips man! A lot of how you tank reminds me of how Kungen did it. You always hear people saying Warriors just spam Sunder and I immediately know they are either very bad Warriors or have never played one :D Also many of the top Tanks ive ever talked to have agreed with your stance on Thunderclap.

I've heard from multiple sources that Battle Shout is better than Thunder Clap for AOE threat. Yes, Battle Shout, not Demoralizing Shout. Apparently Battle Shout generates a lot of AOE threat based on how many allies you buff with Battle Shout... and I just got to the part in the video where you mention this.

Don't spend a ton of money on the Enchanted Thorium Breastplate, finish the Fordring quest chain that ends with "In Dreams". One of the rewards is the Ornate Adamantium Breastplate (807 Armor, 22 STA, 10 DEF). Another great tanking breastplate drops from Cpt. Kromcrush in Dire Maul.

or get plate chest from scholo mini bosses. It has great def + stamina and you'd probably help some guild rogues to get cadaver chest.

I would not recommend spend talents points in Improved Shield Wall and Anticipation, because Shield Wall is a Skill you use in the exceptional situation when you are dying and is not very common or shouldn't be, so the benefit you get from those points is very low. In the other hand spending 5 talent points to earn 10 defense is quite expensive, I think you can invest better by adding some points to improved heroic strike and also reach Anger Management in the arms aspect, with this you get to maintain a good rage pool even between pulls and also if you gather to much rage you can drop several heroic strikes. I would make other changes to increse the threate you can generate, but as a guide for starters I think the built is pretty descent.

Thanks man! Absolutely yes, Thunder Clap is amazing, especially for raid bosses. I would say the best time to Thunder Clap in a dungeon (when already in combat) is when you have a least a few sunder's up on at least 1 or 2 targets. If you're struggling for threat, and already have some sunders or just extra rage to spare, thunderclap is great. It is also is exceptional for every melee boss in a raid's.

Thunderclap is using 1 debuff slot. So not even close to be worth it in raids.

Probably depends on your needs. Feeling a little too squishy? Toughness. Want to put the hurt on and need to generate more aggro? Cruelty.

On Classic, there's no KTM or TankBuddy, but there's a threat meter on Details! Damage Meter and TankWarningsClassic does everything he said TankBuddy does. (edit: Don't know if it removes salvation)

@12:00 Are you saying DPS warriors will make less threat in defensive stance? Eventhough defensive stance increases their threat per DPS?

No, I'm saying that they can go into D stance to reduce damage taken. If needed, they can switch to a shield as well. The increased threat from D stance isn't super signifacnt. I would not recommend staying to d stance to DPS because of reduced damage equaling less threat.

Mongoose is great for extra threat. It gives you dodge and crit strike. The potions are very expensive though, so if you can afford them, by all means buy them!

level 60. maybe sooner at level 55, but no sooner than that because it is very hard to level as prot. Everything just takes a long time to kill.

@@ExecutusGaming I disagree. By tanking at lower levels allows players to become able to build a foundation to build upon. Lower level instances allow tanks to improve their situational awareness, knowledge of abilities, and since it's more acceptable to people for low level tanks to lose threat, it also allows for them to learn what to do when they lose threat.

dont disagree on thunderclap.. but optimal i would say you charge in battleshout then demo shout 2 make life easy for healers then when you thunderclap. is the queue for dps to start moving in.

@@shawnjohansen2022 agreed more to that ! Thunder clap should be applied by warrior dps as you are in offensive stance (x0.8 thread), and demo shout is not thread scaling you can maintain aggro on aoe by just spamming Bshout and is not bugged is called "thread by power gaining" something like that

Thunderclap only affects 4 targets per the tooltip, why would it be useful for aoe tanking? Additionally it can't be used in defensive stance, so you don't get any of the threat % increases from defensive stance when you apply it.

Why not full toughness in the talent? Armor is very important on some occasions, for example, When you are stunned by Maexxna the Spider, parry, dodge or block does not work, so you need 5 toughness, i suggest.

Why thunderclap when you can do a fast Whirlwind? Charge and before you get there switch to berserker. Pop your ability that gives extra rage from taking damage. Hit whirlwind and then get into d stance before you get hit more than once then just sunder everything. Better use of your rage and time

Thunderclap hits more targets than WW, plus that split second while you're whirlwinding, you take a ton of damage. I actually agree with you and think WW is better to use, but most of the time there are more than 3 targets.

tab sunder is a very useful skill, its mandatory to learn becos warr tank doesnt have good cleave spell to use. all physical melee has cleave spell as part of dps staple, and all spell casters have high threat aoe that warrior tank may never recover from. opening thunderclap is the best, because healer aggro will be covered, and if dps is smart enough to hit a marked target, tank has time to tab sunder to cover their cleave. no promise for caster aoe. its gg.

Damage and debuffs cause threat, it's not much threat and the debuff aggro wont generate on a second use but so long as no one else generates aggro on pull than it's all you need to get the first swing from each mob for the rage gen.

So are low level dungeons just terrible? I never hold aggro. I pull start to sunder, have no rage then the dps have all the aggro. Not sure if its 100% me or whut

Yes, low level dungeons are awful. They will get better at around level 25-30.

That is Vanilla. You need to tab target through your mobs and spread sunders to hold aggro. there are also other skills to help with this but sunder will be your bread and butter for holding aggro. Don't confuse it with current AoE tanking where you can keep group aggro by just spamming thunder clap and taunting here and there, vanilla tanking was not easy and takes some time to learn.

Mark a skull and ignore it, get aggro on the rest while skull dies. Use battleshout to get initial aggro and make sure none run to healer. Low lvl dngns are easy and can be tanked by anyone so long as it's not the healer!

The problem with Clap is that it's never gonna out-threat the healing required, so you might as well save the rage and get your sunder rotation up as quick as possible. Unless you absolutely desperately need the mobs to cling to you right away (like if you have some nitwit spam heal pala on you or something) it's just not worth it.

woah woah, buddy, you need anger management in the arms tree for your tank talents. its darn near mandatory for all warriors anyway. you gain 1 rage every 3 seconds while in combat. that is huge. doesn't say so in the tool tip, but that effect is in there.

Could you make a more realistic BiS set guide? Some of these are far too expensive to make. For example Thorium needs a lot of reagents especially the Arcanite Bar will cost you a lot. Farming items which have a incredible low droprate are also not worth the time and eventually you will get a burnout from playing World of Warcraft trying to get these items when some of them are easy to be replaced once you start raiding.

You literally generate ZERO threat from using your challenging shout. Misinformation at its finest ladies and gents. Also mocking blow is NOT the same as taunt as it doesn't change your threat on the target, only forces it to attack you instead.

You're like the 5th idiot to comment this. Obviously challenging shout doesn't generate threat, what generates the threat is what you do with the 6 seconds you have while the mobs are attacking you. Reflection gear is huge for moments like these, when the mobs attack you, you deal damage and generate threat. Same concept for the other spells, you let the attack you to gain rage, then generate threat by doing so.

If your rogue smacks the mob and you challenging shout it, you gain 110% the aggro that rogue generated. Mocking blow forces the mob to attack you, long enough for taunt to come off cooldown. You need to calm down sir.

Night Father I don’t know man. I tanked MC last week with 2% hit, vying for defense gear over hit. It went really well. I think the hit % cap meta might be overblown.

@@THUNDERUP189 I think def was underrated at the start when people were still used to Retail pulling, then they realized a single stat can void crushing blows and limit crits between your shield wall cooldown.

Good video. BUT did you really just recommend "something with strength" or "something with stam" or "something with low attack speed" for tanking weapon? Your weapon is the MOST important item. It absolutely matters and this is terrible advice. Do not prio strength or stam on a weapon for the love of god. AND you DONT want a slow mainhand as a tank... thats a DPS thing. Q'uel sarrar does not have +defence on it. Anyone watching, please ignore the weapon advice.. if you can call it that

It's true. The main point I wanted to get across is low attack speed. This lets you heroic strike more frequently, generating more threat. I didn't want to list specific weapons cause I wasn't sure what would be available upon classic release back then.

I was talking about tanking multiple mobs, making sure you taunt all of them to maintain threat. Taunt doesn't add additional threat, but like i said in the video, it will make you generate rage, possibly add threat from thorns, sanq, ret aura, etc.. That reflection will greatly add to your threat.

I am going to be buying a fuckload of gold when Classic comes out... 100g for my 40 mount, 1000g from my epic mount, about 5-8 BoE's which will be WAY over priced... Im probably going to purchase about 5-10k gold. Based on the going rate for farmers, I may be dropping 1000$ US easily.
