Vanishing Point Locations: Goldfield Hotel and the Faith Healers' Bluff

TARDIS transcontinental road trip, Friday, June 12 2015. Goldfield Nevada and Gemfield Road, we followed the La Rea Belt. U.S. 95 north and U.S. 6 west. Montgomery Pass ghost town motel and into the sunset, on the road to California.

Loved Vanishing Point from the moment it came out. As a UK driver I'm so envious of you American folks with your beautiful big roads, wild scenery and big mile munching V8 cars. Must have been fantastic to be in the States during the glorious muscle car years.

The US is still full of open roads and has wonderful memories of the past along Rte 66, especially in Arizona, New Mexico. and Texas. Gas is still in the $3 - $4 range as I write this. My wife and I just completed a 5,600 miles Rte 66 trip in our Trans Am (needs premium gas) and we'll never forget it. If you get the opportunity to 'come over', get rental with a V8 if available (probably a Mustang which is cool!) and enjoy the experience before it is gone forever.

"Mile munching V8" = gas guzzling V8. My Japanese econo-TARDIS with it's glorified lawnmower engine took me all over just the same, and the experience was great. Unless you're in a race, superior horsepower is a costly waste. I hope you have the opportunity to take such a road trip yourself.

@@speeta Considering your remark it is amazing you ever watched the movie or had any interest in the locations? My 2008 LS7-powered Z06 idles along at 1800 rpm at 70 mpg getting 24 mpg.

@@jamesw.6931 Just a tip: the movie isn't about how awesome the car is. It's about a disillusioned nihilist's final journey. I guess 2008 LS7 Z06 is your car and not some alphabet soup serial number?

@@speeta Thank You for the tip. I have pondered the meaning of the movie for over 53 years; I watched it multiple times before my first deployment. I'm impressed with your wording and sentence structure; I needed to look in Webster's to find the multiple meanings of nihilists. If only I had continued my studies after graduating debt-free with only a bachelor's in engineering... 😉

Thanks for posting this. I saw this on TV around the late 1970's. Besides Barry Newman. Features Cleavon Little, Paul Koslo, Carl Swenson, Severn Darden, and Dean Jagger.

The ghost of Supersoul still tellin it like it is. Watch out for the Big Blue Meanies. Copy that.The film crew managed to destroy 8 of those gorgeous white Dodge Challenges R/T’s. I believe none of the screen used cars survived the shoot. The cars were not that strong to enough to survive the intense punishment they copped.👍🇦🇺😁🤪☮️

Was through mid March 2018. Hit Austin and the abandoned section of old 95 used as the Nevada state line (Paint truck). As fate would have it, I left my reference photos at home. I am still not sure where the "faithhealer" scene was, is it on the road to Gemfield?

idak12 not enough business since the town's boom years, and the very large building is in a state of arrested decay/renovation, not in shape to function.

I was there in Sept. 2018 and they were in the process of renovating it.
