Lie detectors are very unreliable. You can measure stuff liie heart rate or changes in how sweaty your skin is but at best that means someone is nervous or stressed but there can be lots of reasons for that. Also, you can lie without getting nervous. That's why most countries don't allow them in court

I've read that the sensation of pain is a way to cheat polygraphs. Some people will put a thumbtack in their shoe or something like that. Wouldn't be surprised if Johnny's aware of this, and given his pain-tolerance, nobody would ever know.

its so easy to fool these things. all you seriously have to do is to train yourself to stay as calm as possible when being interrogated. lie detectors find drastic increases in BP and Heart rate. as long as you stay really calm, you can easily tell the worst lie of your life and fool the machine into thinking its the truth.
