Willem is one of only a handful of actors which 99% of us would pay to see him be himself for 100 minutes. His appearance is exotic and strange but yet perfectly normal and comforting, he oozes the kind of cool that men and women alike just wish there were more of in the world. And, let's not forget, he has the chiseled looks that instantly suggest sincerity which he can back up 100%. He's definitely in my top 5 actors of all time.

I loved "The Last Temptation Of Christ". I was lucky enough to see it theatrically in 1988 (with protestors a plenty outside the theater). I talked with them and they said it was a heretic because I admitted to being a Christian (I still am, by the way). I saw the film for what it was. At the beginning the crawl says that it Isn't based on The Gospels and it was a fictitious view of Jesus' human side while every other movie concentrated on his divinity. This film showed both the human and the divine.
@PhilAndersonOutside
@PhilAndersonOutside 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Very true. Martin Scorsese, who is Catholic, also stated very clearly it was based on Nikos Kazantzakis book, and religion was important in his life in many ways, regardless of any film or story. Jesus is about love. I think anyone who actually reads the Gospels with an open heart and mind will easily grasp this. No movie, book, fact, fiction, or otherwise will ever change this.

Willem Dafoe is a freaking chameleon! Everything he touched he performed brilliantly. Unlike so many actors that squeeze a part of themselves into it, he seems to be aside himself, and becomes the essence of the character, and is detached as himself! If he didn't look like W. D. you would never know it's him! I can see that being way more fun than trying to be something else, yet still trying to make sure you are recognized! I think he made a wise decision not to be the center of attention, and by doing so gives everything he touches so much more reality, and so ends up to be the center of attention anyhow, for not standing out in any deliberate way. He has also given many newcomers in movie making a chance and helped them excel, by seeing the vision in story and what ever else over mere authority. Christopher Walkin is also well known for that, and would be in your bands video for no cost if it sounds interesting and different enough!
