Remarkable play. I saw more than 10 uncle vanya,s (I am from Russia) and this one is among the best. Such a deep understanding of Chekhov. I was lucky to be in London in January 2020 and see it before all pandemic started

I was sorry to miss thiss, but watched the NT live footage. Remarkable performance from Toby Jones, and everyone really. Superbly directed.

Surely Chekhov wrote a comedy. Why have we come to perceive this as a drama? 😥🤔🙂

Chekhov never intended Uncle Vanya to be perceived as a comedy

@@jamesmiller2521 The basis of the play "Uncle Vanya" was another play - "Leshy" - a comedy in four acts, written and staged in 1889.

@@rosaazora yeah, Leshy is a comedy in an ancient sense of the term, but it’s actually even darker than Uncle Vanya

The adaptation with Andrew Scott is very funny. I am yet to see this one.
