Vapor Lock and heat soak solution

This video is to show generally how to help solve some vapor lock issues specifically on a Ford f150 1986. Not a professional but I hope that this helps some people who are wondering about what surrounds this kind of project.

Ethanol free gas 87 Oct. Works found it at Murphy's gas station through the app. Also I used the wix filter insulated the lines from carb to fuel filter. On return line I added glass filter so I can see the vapors and fuel going to the return to tank. On fuel tank make sure the vent line is clear. I put a silicone line for tank vent with a "axle vent" fitting so it's a 1 way valve. And if your fuel return line is plugged. Replace line, or plug old return and make a new one. I put mine in the filler neck no drilling in tank.

Hope this worked for you,, you might try some lead additive for like 2 tanks just a test. I know you are supposed to run unleaded, but try it ??? Another problem in hot summer temps The rubber hose under the truck road heat will soften the hose the fuel pump will suck the hose closed , blocking fuel. I have an 80 Ford van that gets pissed off, it seems on super unleaded it's better. Good luck young Man,

Hi, a phealic/wood spacer works very good for this also, if you have a dual plane manifold use a 4 hole spacer

id turn that filter so the gas vapor outlet is on top of filter not on the side .cheers.

He should also run the vapor line to 1 gas tank and not worry about the secondary tank, in addition to using bailing wire instead of plastic zip-ties that are going to degrade and break in the heat. 👍

I have been having issues with my pressure regulator for the fuel once I installed my vapor lock filter. Any ideas? I can’t get pressure to rise above 4 psi. And a lot of fuel goes out the vapor return line

I am not a mechanic just a weekender. But I do have a couple of ideas. 1. make sure that your gas tank has proper ventilation. If you think about your tank as a water bottle, it gets harder to suck water out of a water bottle if air is not properly circulating in. 2. You can reduce the flow on the vapor return line by installing a little shut off valve on the vapor return line and closing it slightly to restrict more fuel from going through. 3. If you had to reduce your fuel line size in oder to install the new fuel filter go back to your old line size and filter so that way there can be proper flow through the line and it wont restrict it. Then try to find and install T for your fuel line to connect to your vapor line that way you do not need the vapor lock filter. I think this might work but I am just giving some ideas. The vapor lock filter is not designed to only let out vapor. It lets fuel run through it. Before doing this projected I contacted WIX filters to see if they had any filters that only let out vapor and not an out pouring of fuel. They said they do not make anything that matches the design of this filter but only allows vapor to release. As I told tank52r, Uncle Tony's Garage gave me good insight into this situation. It may be worth checking out his stuff or even asking him to see if he has some ideas surrounding how to solve this problem. I hope this helps.

Does the filter you put on have an open return port or does it have an orifice? You should use a filter with an orifice. I believe they range somewhere between .060-.095”

Well I thought vapor lock was the issue on the truck and it turned out not to be the main issue I am dealing with. I thought it was cured for some time after installing this then one day another thing came up that has nothing to do with vapor lock. Uncle Tony's Garage is a youtube channel that talks about doing this for curing vapor lock. He helped me in getting started on this project. He for sure has much more knowledge than I do and maybe could give some good insight into helping you understand if your vehicle is dealing with vapor lock.
