I was in really bad health, over 10 years ago..I started with fitness/Crossfit and as I started understanding health/wellness more I started to change my diet one thing at a time..took out soda, took out alcohol, cut out sugar, added in balanced meals and high quality foods etc..everything was a gradual change and as I saw improvements I kept making changes…I am not the same person I was 10 years ago, not stuck in a hospital and have 3 children when I was told I wouldn’t be able to have any and my life quality is dramatically different..it is fantastic. don’t underestimate the small changes that can make big impacts and it may not be as quick as a pill but it is definitely more satisfying! Loved so many points of conversation in this episode!

I try to impress on my kids and myself the healthy variety, portion control side of nutrition while not trying to promote a body-centric mindset or a bad relationship to food. Consistency and healthy habits.

Nutrition is the hardest to talk even amongst other gym goers because different strokes for different folks. The only reason I talked about nutrition with my coach was because every Murph season I would say I have to lose weight😄

It’s also difficult because most people know that body composition is directly related to nutrient and calorie intake, so suggesting to someone that they improve their diet can be viewed as a thinly veiled commentary on their physical appearance.

I'm a crazy person who eats the same lunch Monday through Friday because it is easy to meal prep and has great macros

Great episode. The controversy around the "ideal" diet is often the enemy a good diet for the general public. I find a lot of people are confused (vegan vs carnivore?). The confusion becomes a barrier to taking positive action. Researching if an oats-based breakfast or egg-based breakfast is healthier is a distraction from acting on the answer we all know...stop eating donuts, pop tarts and lucky charms.

Unless it's a competition day and then pop tarts and Lucky Charms are the breakfast of champions. 😆 - but really, my carb intake is 150-200% on competition weekends and it makes my performance and recovery SO much better. And it cannot be whole-foods based because that volume of food and fiber would NOT work for competition. I just have to remember that these conversations are geared more for general population (not the "fire-breathers" Pat often calls competitive CrossFitters).
