There are no doubts about the quality of Varig. Punctuality, very professional crews, great food, clean cabins... I only saw a similar thing among European companies. I've heard a Swiss man saying that Varig was the Swissair of the Americas! Even in the end, when the company was practically bankrupt, employees did their best to do a good job. SPECTACULAR!

Did they flew the 777 to Japan?

No, the 747-300 used this route, later the MD-11 which operated until 2006. The 777-200 was on routes to the United States, Europe and high-demand domestic routes.
