Nicely done. Deformed wing virus is often one of the late stage issues associated with high mite counts. Also, I know you don’t like the alcohol wash, but it’s in my opinion the best way to monitor accurate mite counts. I’ll continue to do this. Your descriptions of what to look for were also very good

Thank you for this follow up video Jonathan. After we do our OAV, we count the mites at 24, 48, 72 and 96 hr mark and its exactly as you've described. I understand that this method may not be practical for an apiary with a large amount of hives but since we only have two (going on three colonies), the daily mite check on my largest hive with the largest mite count is quick and painless.

Hey that’s great news!! And you’re super welcome! Those are good hourly intervals to check mite drops too. Three colonies huh? Nice! How many do you want to build up to?🐝

Hi Jonathan! @@thehivedoctor13 We live in a neighborhood in southern California so although we can legally own up to 7 hives on my property, my neighbors would freak out if they knew we had just one. LOL!
