At the start of the game, Electro was, albeit controversially, considered the weakest element in the game due to being almost completely overshadowed by Pyro in terms of sheer force. But throughout the past two years, new characters as well as further exploration of systems and the advent of Dendro has brought Electro to a level playing field. This left many people to consider Geo to be the weakest element in the game, and today I want to explain why.

Crystalize shouldnt scale with EM it should be Def scaling. And EM should just allow Geo to tank more or deal more damage

Vars, what do you think of an idea to implement subreactions to crystallize? To make it possible for other elements to interact with crystal cores, similarly like that did with dendro cores? Geo centric teams would be left untouched for people who want to play like that, and for others it would create ways for interesing team comps. Plus it fits Mihoyo's current model of fixing things, which is add something new, instead of changing something that exist already

It is frustrating that it does not have any substantive interaction with the other elements, crystalize is not enough. Maybe bonus to a stat for the type of shield you get. Hydro gets you tick healing, Pyro Bonus attack, Electro energy recharge, cryo crit rate. And the strength could be based off EM.

I’m sad that they didn’t use dendro as an opportunity to give geo a different reaction. Like roots that snare enemies or something. Earth and plants seem to go hand in hand…

would be so cool to have the vines growing on geo+dendro reactions, the ones samachurls love to summon and that they'll be more persistent and can only be removed by fire, strengthened by water and wilder by electro.

The problem is the elemental system is based on Chinese elements not western elements. A good example of this is hydro which is the healing element where in the west it would more relate to light or life (dendro). Geo is just an unyielding force and therefore doesn't react with anything. Good logically but terrible translated to gameplay.

Dendro should also have a Frost reaction with Cryo. Snow kills plants, so it makes no sense that Dendro and Cryo have no reactions.

My suggestion is to rework the crystalize reaction: 1. Crystalized shield stacks when we pick up more than one, same way how Thoma's burst shield works. This way it's useful even if it's paper thin (since nobody sane uses EM on geo). 2. Crystals not picked up within 6 seconds will explode dealing AoE damage. The same way bloom seeds do.

I actually like the idea for the 2nd part. It could deal Elemental DMG based on the Element that Geo reacted with, and the damage could scale with EM. It's also a nice reference to how condensed Elemental Energy can be volatile and trigger an explosion, like the Geo bombs we find in the Chasm.

Second one may work but lets say u are fighting electro enemies and u have electro crystallize "gems" that's gonna be useless i would make the "gems" explode no matter what element did it absorbed it will do geo dmg but even with that geo goona be its own element

ohhh ngl did not think of the shield stacker thing thats a real nice idea. But this is what im saying if we can find a way to apply damage to the already existing elemental reaction it can still be viable. Crystallize can still have its identity as a shield reaction but still be useful in a damage sense. My idea was originally more like the shard does geo and combined element damage on creation of the shard like a swirl reaction, when shield is picked up, when shield expires or breaks, and you mentioned explodes if not picked up. I came up with another idea but this one seemed to be more balanced in my mind. The more interesting alternative was to was picking up a an elemental shield granted elemental infusion of that type. I decided alternatively that concept would be better suited for a character kit instead. Call it the prismmancer- the character can grant elemental infusion based on a crystallized shield that only they pick up or i guess that is picked up if they are in part or caused the reaction(not sur about that detail) Granting elemental infusion via crystallzied shard potentially could interrupt normal game if it was how the reaction normally worked but if its linked to just a character might be ok. Once again really like your thoughts thanks for sharing, let me know what you think.

Geo is clearly the element that is the representation of the quote "The best defense is a good offense." Whether that's in actually scaling off of defense, shielding, or being straight up tanky. Geo is MEANT to stand alone and be strong by finding solidarity within its own element, but with the 6 other elements interacting with each other and getting access to higher and newer powers, it's a tough comparison that Geo has to bear alone.

Unless you're Ningguang. But to be fair to her at least, that's because she's so unlike any other Geo character that she basically isn't one at this point. (You know, aside from having Geo resonance and doing Geo damage) Although this does kinda mean that she's dodged all the Geo buffs. But hey, you win some, you lose most of the time! As someone who mained Ningguang at launch, I have some issues with how the directions Geo has gone in have treated her. There was the "building objects" part of Geo, but that's not really that important most of the time. And sometimes it's even a detriment.

In a game where the content is heavily biased towards reactions, geo has nothing to offer because it literally does nothing, reactionwise. Crystallise is trash, unfortunately and offers nothing of real utility. A mediocre fix that I can think of is for the crystals to auto home in on the character, providing a bigger defence shred and buff to the element and counter. I dunno how that can work with Anemo being a thing. Idk, maybe infusion could be cool, like primovishap and Azhdaha has but like Anemo exists so how will you make that work. Geo is just so screwed as an element, it's users has high multipliers on their abilities but that's just to make up for lack of reaction and even still it's not enough. Geo just gets done dirty by laziness or lack of creativity on the Devs part or idk, either way, Geo taking the hardest L's as an element rn. and no signs that that will change for a long time.

Geo wasn’t meant to stand alone. Ningguang til this day still doesn’t have a dedicated artifact set. They just decided to make Geo standalone by slapping a strong 4 star unit on the element… MHY has good ideas and execution. Geo wasn’t one of them.

Geo was always pointless, in and of itself. It was always "the neutral damage" that could hit _most_ enemies evenly and only be weak against the relatively rare Geo enemies. That sort of worked, but stacking Reaction damage has just made that not worth it.

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet that hurts Geo as a whole is that, if you want to make a good mono-Geo team, it's really goddamn expensive! The absolute best mono-Geo teams essentially require three specific 5* units, and even if we're being generous, you MUST have one of two options for main DPS. Those being Itto and C6 Noelle. No other element comes close to having so little options, nor ones that are so expensive. (You can build Noelle without C6, but pretty much everywhere I've read screams at you that it's not the best idea) And the two excluded Geo characters are among the strongest they can be in these teams, so while you can exclude them, it would be doing them an injustice with how much they improve the teams. And on top of THAT, we also run into the issue of Gorou being almost mandatory for them...which runs into the issue of getting Gorou in the first place. While most 4* characters have a decent excuse of "Well, you'll get them eventually", Gorou is limited to exclusively Itto banners so far, and if you want to run DPS Noelle you're shit out of luck if you didn't pull for Itto. (And fail to get him, as is likely if you're using DPS Noelle) This is basically the most limited an important support is in Genshin, aside from maybe Sucrose. And then there's the existence of Geo Traveler and Ningguang, who can't even really join in on the mono-Geo fun due to not working with the direction Geo has gone. Geo Traveler may as well not exist since you're much better off using Dendro if you're using the traveler at all, and if you're building Ningguang, you're building her like every other element but Geo! (You certainly don't want to separate her from Bennett) For crying out loud Ningguang's best artifact sets are nearly the same as they were at launch, and she's ruled by substats on a level that most other characters can only dream of. When it's incredibly likely the best artifact set is a 2p/2p with slightly above average substats, you know you're in a wacky situation. Mono-Geo, at its peak, is exceptionally good and exceptionally fun. But getting to that peak requires a lot of primo investment, and without the massive ceiling it loses out on what makes it special and strong. Compared to pretty much every other element (once again, barring maybe Anemo) it's by far the most expensive option for a team focus. The less you have of Zhongli, Albedo, Itto, Gorou, and C6 Noelle, the less worth it making a Geo team is. But hey at least Yun Jin is out there kicking ass and living her best life.

@kollie79 That's fair on Geo Traveler working with mono-Geo, I still underestimate Geo traveler. They still have the major issue of "You have to not be using Dendro Traveler, the best budget Dendro unit", but he can at least do something for the team. Saying "You can still get Gorou from the standard banner or any other random pulls", though, is incredibly silly when the chance of getting specifically him is astronomically low. In the base banner it's a 1/46 shot each time you roll a 4-star, and in the character banner it's a 1/40 shot AFTER losing a 50/50. And considering the frequency with which people pull on the base banner (which is almost twice as likely), the likelyhood of you getting him from either is slim to none. If my napkin math is correct (it very well may not be), you are more likely to pull an early 5* on either banner than you are to pull Gorou. Him being only on one character's banner is a huge deal if you don't ever want to pull for that character. "Why not pull if you want to run mono geo that bad?" is the whole point of why Gorou being this way is bad! Because that's also saying "If you want to play mono geo at all and have it feel worth the effort, you must spend your primos on this banner where you might not even want the 5*." and, similarly to using non-C6 Noelle, pretty much everywhere I go screams at people "Don't spend on a banner if you don't want the 5*. Plus, you don't even have a safety net for the specific 4*, so you'd be even more up to the mercy of the RNG than normal. If it requires even that much sacrifice to even try it out in the first place, is it even worth pursuing to begin with? And the problem with that budget Mono-Geo team is that when you get that budget, you start competing with other incredibly budget options, and mono-Geo just can't compete even at that weak a level. I do not see how, in that team, you wouldn't see immediate massive improvements if you went with Dendro Traveler and Fischl, even if you kept Gorou and Noelle and would probably want to drop Gorou for Bennett. (I am, of course, assuming non-C6 Noelle as that would defeat the point of it being budget) And both of those characters are way more easily obtainable, as even if you never obtain her from the Gacha you can still buy Fischl from the shop or have gotten her from the GAA. Going to your Ayaka example, her completely free team can have Xingqiu and Kaeya which are infinitely more accessible than Gorou on account of them being guaranteed obtainable. And it would almost certainly perform way better than the budget mono-Geo team. Even at its most ridiculously minimalist level, mono-Geo needs at least Gorou to justify being worth using over anything else, which is a level of uncertainty that most other styles of team comp in the entire game don't have to work under. Without it, it is outclassed in both damage and ease of use by budget options that do what it does but better.

The thing is, those are the characters in the geo element being strong. Not the actual geo element itself being strong. Like imagine if the geo characters were another element, they’d most likely be stronger since they now have broken numbers and can actually do elemental reactions.

You may need C6 Gorou to achieve Itto or Noelle peak potential and it's not cheap. Took me a while to get there and I'm the lucky one. C2 Itto C4 Gorou on Itto's first banner and 2 remaining cons on Itto's 2nd banner

As ning main i can tell u what geo needs she doesn't need it she scales of attack so way other side then other geo characters only good that she has is she can some what provide herself with buffs her skill gives geo bonus and when enemies are near it there geo res is decreased but in down side she dose no aeo dmg only at c1 she dose and her "best" weapond is memory of dust 5 star and even then you need other geo character for geo resonance only 1 u can get is noele at the start but her shield takes ages for cd hence why i got zhongli if u are no lucky enough u mind as well go with other elements not geo

Since they introduced the concept of modifying reactions with Nilou, I feel like they might do the same for Crystalize in the future. Not sure how they'd do it, but there's definitely room to do that.

Character passive One have all four geo members have a passive that allows you to have a reaction called hardening . Everytime a crystallize is picked up geo dmg increase by 10% max stack 50%

Let's be honest, geo might be the "weakest," but weakest doesn't mean weak at all. Completely self reliant element, that alone has tremendous value imo. Only real downside is that it's expensive as heck to build them, big barrier to entry. Edit: forgot to add that geo reaction is indeed buns, wish that was different.

I think this is why Geo is so fun to play. I don't have to worry about elemental reactions or having the best character to prop an element or anything like that. It's just geo, it's just unga bunga, you're practically invinsible, and that's what makes it so fun. I'm working on my own mono-geo team just for the stupid fun of it all.

yes geo is just that, mono geo. when you have hydro or electro characters instead, you unlock many different playstyle and variations. Edit: I wanna play geo that work with other elements too, hoyoverse! please don't force me to play mono geo every single day, this game is basically element reaction, right? why do they only make shield??! even non geo character can make shield too (diona,thoma,xinyan)

Don't forget an entire set and weapon for Noelle and Itto. Right now Geo is about as strong as its going to get.

My issue with Geo is when you run into the abyss herald and like enemies that rely on you using a reaction to kill them in their last phase. Geo cant really do anything and you just take small slivers off of their shield bars. Most of the time I have to run away and pull out characters who can actually take them out. I love Geo as an element, Noelle and Ningguang are my favorite characters to play, but the satisfaction I get from playing them dwindles when I have to disengage from fights so I can fix my comp in order to actually do damage to enemies that have elemental shields. It would be neat if when you pick up crystallize shards that they explode the element or something while giving you a shield.

Yeah, I agree shields are an issue, and yet geo is supposed to be the generalist shield buster. That's why geo is the recommended element for the Noblesse domain, which is 3 different shielded enemies at once. Yet while that is the theory, in practice, anemo is what you want you there, and, if not that, the various straight up counter elements. Geo is just a guarantee that all three drop slowly. And heck, Albedo doesn't even proc against shields. A DPS character that is completely gutted against a common enemy mechanic. But I digress. This shield aspect is why I believe geo should do more damage to shields based on its EM. That would add some value to EM for geo characters, and actually give geo the niche of generalist shield breaker.

Now that Nilou exists I'm sure that they'll make a character that changes what crystallize does under certain conditions. They've opened the door to many reaction variations and that would help Geo a lot. They also could release a new Geo support specific artifact set, something for Albedo, Zhongli or Yunjin. At the start of the game anemo was only broken because it had VV, so maybe Geo can be useful too without the need of a rework. (Yes, I know that there are already Geo sets that focus on support but they're pretty useless in most situations)

Nilou's passive buff to dendro has more to do with simply justifying dendro as an element than it being a sign of a change in design philosophy. Hoyo kinda needed to justify the delay on dendro and it fairly paid off given that half of the reactions are fantastic even if the other half sucks. Nilou's abilities simply help showcase dendro as an already more viable element to use on your team. Geo on the other hand goes on the decline regularly and with as many opportunities as they've had to improve it, I think it's safe to say that they're not interested atm or at worst, don't really care to improve Geo

@@Soulferno after 2 years of playing Genshin and never missed an update, i can safely say Hoyoverse doesn’t care much about Geo. Even after buffing Geo, it’s still the worst element. It’s the most problematic and neglected element with the most worthless reaction and no hope to make sense of Elemental Mastery. Good thing is the characters of Geo have great kits. They are great because of their modifiers and stats, not because of their element.

The last time they add new geo set, they isolate Geo even further with def. Ningguang is left behind by meta grow while Zhongli is much relevant in meta than most def isolated geo. I prefer they fix that supportive Geo artifact you called useless into more practical like how easy VV to use while increase its user dmg. Something like shard magnet, buff stacking, and geo dmg bonus from geo shard.

I think adding some "mini" effect to crystalize on top of the shield shard could probably help. Make the shard more valuable somehow? Pyro shards/shields give a pyro DOT aura, electro gives energy Regen, hydro gives a life-steal aura, cryo slows and reduces res. Add more offense to the elemental shards so there's now two different styles: pure geo for all the defense stacking synergy, or mixing elements for unique, element-themed offensive shields.

I was hoping Geo would react with Dendro for some sort of "rooted" reaction that would be similar to Frozen, but also drag flying enemies to the ground and anchor them so they can't move and let melee characters hit flying enemies more easily.

That would be cool just like the Pokémon move Smack Down. Unfortunately, a lot of enemies that do fly already have game mechanics in place that ground them, some even include just straight up hitting them.

I actually love the concept of geo being inert. Its just that its only reaction is already redundant as mentioned in the video. So I got a suggestion. But how about we make the crystallized shield buff the character ? Just like nahida's burst, pyro for more dmg, electro for atk spd, cryo for crit rate, and hydro for skill CD maybe ? And how strong the effect depends on EM of the on field character, or even character with the biggest EM in the party. I kinda like the concept of geo being inert in mind so a buff of its only reaction is also what I can think of

Besides the difference in number colour what is it that "inert" geo that u like has different from physical damage playstyle? Maybe the part that geo can buff eacother more while essential doing the same thing? Cause honestly thats what geo is - you get geo infusion on auto attacks and buff up ur def/geo dmg thats imo the only thing it has and theres already "physical element" in the game already, why should geo be like that?? Imho physical damage should be buffed and take on the role that geo has right now minus the crystalized shielding and geo should be reworked in to a proper element takeing its rightfull place among the other elements.

@@pavelmitris8036 wow, I completely forgot phys dmg. When you put it out, its really the same. But since the game is ahout elements, imo keep phys dmg what it is, relying on superconduct. I like the idea of inertness because noble gas irl exists. Yeah if you count phys dmg, it is the one that doesnt do any reaction, but since its not an element it doesnt count. On the other hand, geo cannot be applied or applied for a long time like other elements except anemo, but since anemo heavily reacts with other 4, it means anemo reacts. Of course if geo dont do anything other than shielding then it will be boring to be used. Its just that crystallize reaction doesnt do anything in the game, and with nahida burst now exists, I gives me an idea about potential on crystallize shield buff. Of course the buff I suggests can be tweaked for balance, I just said such buffs because that is what each other elements are known for. Also sumeru craftable weapons have passives which gives buffs if we pick something from the ground.

It's a bit ironic. Liyue was supposed to be "the most prosperous land" but it pales in comparison to Sumeru (and probably the following nations too, bc HYV are just naturally getting better in designing things). Geo, as the element of Liyue, was supposed be strong on it's own, but it looks weaker than others. Im sure none of that was intentional, it's just... happened.

When I was still in Mondstadts, I imagined Xiangling's Wanmin restaurant would be much bigger and crowded especially for the fact that she's living in a nation of wealth, and then when I'm in Liyue which I don't even realize that the random food vendor is Wanmin restaurant till a quest tell me to go find Xiangling's restaurant, it may sounds silly but when I'm still a new player, I thought Sumeru is extended parts of Liyue and I will find traveler's sibling on extended parts of Mondstadts when my level is 'high enough' to unlock new territories.

Thank you for saying this. I have been forcing my Albedo into as many teams as possible because he is my favorite character. It is crazy that he has no options as a consistent off field geo applicator to have reactions with any other element! The biggest slap in the face was denying any hope when geo didn't have a reaction with dendro. They did us geo mains dirty!

@@Seelenya geo constructs are SUCH a fun idea imo but they're held back by being: - weak af (destroyed by one or two heavy hits) - annoying to fight around (no, mhy, i did NOT intend to climb the zhong dong, i was just trying to strafe around it. also, enemies seem to have a hard time navigating around geo constructs, making it hard to attack them when they can't even decide which direction they're coming from) - inconsistent when being placed (especially in the case of zhongli and ningguang who cannot aim before placing their skills) - instantly destroyed when they come into contact with a boss, or some weird geometry, or oceanid arena, or... (etc.) also gorou's skill is the only geo "placed skill" that doesn't suffer from all the issues mentioned above, ironically by virtue of it *not* being a geo construct. geo constructs also thrive on the idea of fortifying an area--your own little corner--which is a problem when we have so many enemies and bosses who like to keep their distance and absolutely WILL NOT approach you no matter how long you wait. or alternatively, they might approach you, but they'll then just as quickly back off (rifthounds, slimes, some hilichurls, some variants of fungi, machines, literally anything that flies...) so you end up having to relocate multiple times in a fight. this means replacing all your constructs and buffs OR choosing to fight without all or some of them, making the whole process feel clunky. i understand that anemo is supposed to be THE element for crowd control and battlefield manipulation, but geo having no way to lock enemies down or bring them closer really hurts the experience overall.

@@Ben-vg6ox Not at all, because why would you include a geo equivalent of Candace or Chongyun in a non-geo team? I'll go a step further and say such a character wouldn't even be meta for a geo team. It'd mostly be for more fun teams, like if you want to be able to use Yun Jin on field and maintain the Husk bonus, or for people who don't have Albedo to fill the 4th slot of their geo team.

@@Seelenya rather than focus on defense, geo could really be the construct element. What about this idea here: after collecting x amount of elemental crystallize shards, a crossbow construct is created in that position that attacks and does physical damage. It makes sense that each and minerals are used to construct weaponry and we already have Zhong's long dong and the see-through screen that Ningguang makes. Also, the crossbow constructs would share half of the HP and def of thr character who picked up the last construct.

What would be the point? The only 3 geo on field characters worth using is Noelle c6, Ningyuan and Itto. The rest are all supports and of field dps anyway so no one would really benefit from it since it would be useless for all the main geo dps units and why would you put a infuser in just to use one of the supports like Albedo or Yunjin on field.

If there's one thing I want them to double down on with the current geo, it's constructs. That's the one thing geo characters have EXCLUSIVELY to themselves. I hope they come up with more creative constructs in the future - preferably ones that are more focused on movement (e.g. constructs that protrude from the ground or to the side to boost characters or throw off enemies in specific directions). Hell, the geo Eremite's sobek-lookin'-headass was such a step-up it actually put the existing 5-star geo constructs to shame.

It's a bit of a dichotomy when it comes to Geo teams. Either you become too tanky to take down at the cost of a bit of speed in taking down enemies, or you use elemental reactions to speed up the battle at the cost of not being able to take as many hits. Spiral Abyss is famously very speed-oriented, so it favors elemental reactions quite heavily. At the same time, the only content outside of Spiral Abyss that hits hard enough to notice doesn't have a time limit, which favors Geo teams. I personally love using my Geo team quite a bit, but even I can't deny that in a landscape that increasingly favors speed and using specific elements, Geo does seem to fall a bit short.

@@bobjones1934 First, I didn't say I ONLY have a Geo team, I just said that I love using it. I have a few other teams that I can use and/or make easily enough when they are needed, but Geo is more fun to me. As for the reason I like using my Geo team, it's because it lets me play a bit mindlessly, even on mobile. Having a Zhongli shield, Albedo flower, and Itto burst going at the same time and going unga bunga with big rock stick is something you don't really get to do with other playstyles, at least not as effectively.

Geo may not be strong, but it's very unconventional and fun. Also, it's easy to get into when you start the game - reactions can be overwhelming at the beginning, and Geo's simplicity, as well as Noelle accessibility allows players to have some easy get-in character.

Some ideas for new reactions with geo: Geo+Pyro= Eruption: deals aoe pyro damage and creates a lava flow on the ground, which deals pyro damage to enemies or the active character who walks over it, and slows them. Geo+Dendro= Root: slows enemies and deals dendro damage over time. If multiple enemies in an area are rooted, the damage increases. Geo+Electro= grounded: for a time period, each time the enemy is hit with an electro attack, it will store energy. After the duration ends, the stored energy will erupt and deal aoe electro damage.

Aswell Geo+Hydro = Mud: Slows any target who steps in it and the longer the target linger, it puts them in place for a brief time. Geo+Ameno = Sandstorm/Dust: Causes the target to disorient and attack it’s own foes. (if anemo was a status element) Kinda similar to Tignari E.

As an Itto main, I feel like im a geo main because itto is geo, more than because i actually want to main geo 😭 I love Itto and his playstyle so much, and building a good mono-geo team for him, but with dendro reactions being so fun and cool its really making me wish that there was more to geo than it is right now

I have a mono geo team with Itto and I hard agree with you, it's super fun to just unga bunga enemies after putting down your geo constructs and see gold dmg everywhere, but, sadly, it is not always viable (in abyss, since I can't even Itto burst in overworld because supports are op). Not only that, but dendro is way too much fun and easier to build. Please hoyo, let geo react with dendro! Oh and if someone asks, of course I don't only just play geo, but Ning was my first "main" so I am forever a geo main. :>

So true ,almost all geo character need you to hunt def% artifacts and need you to fight rifthound domain(lv 90) in inazuma while the new artifact for dendro artifact are so damn easy to get(for me atleast rifthound are 5x harder then any domain i fought at low ar and level)

As a Geo main (had all Geo character fully built aside from Itto, Noelle main), the main issue of Geo isn't actually the reaction but spiral enviroment and team investment. Pre 3.0 the spiral is always filled with shield type enemy (Abyss herald and lector) this made geo impossible to be used on stage 11 and 12 this is pretty much issue for Geo, Anemo, and physical mains. Team cost is another main issue, at this moment for Geo team Albedo is a must have character for damage and charger, Gorou for defence buffer, and you might need Yunjin/Zhongli to break elemental shield. How would i want Mihoyo to buff geo? Geo, Physical, and Anemo is a individual element instead of making a bunch of weird reaction they should reduce elemental shield resistance for the element i mention above prob half the amount of breaking them with the proper element (for example hydro to pyro shield, or cryo to hydro shield), or even implement new system where when a enemy receive certain amount of geo it will remove the shield (for example when you attack enemy with geo element the geo logo should appear on the enemy without any color and constant attack with geo will fill the status(until yellow) and instant remove the shield) . For the reaction prob buff character defence when Crystallize? stackable? tbh they could also add character with the "new system" as a four star, Mihoyo haven't really buffed a character/element directly since Zhongli (Yae one is considered as a nerf). Extra: if you are to lazy to read basically I talk about that Geo is a independent element, Instead of reacting with others they should make them usable (against elemental enemy) Geo should be the RAW damage that could damage everything in the game like most other games. Yeah Cryo/Hydro/Pyro/Dendro/Electro could deal better but when against same element enemy? The problem of Geo is instead of able to destroy everything this element is locked only to non elemental enemies.

addition, Mono Geo is actually pretty amazing team (Albedo and Zhongli). It's great for DPS without suitable support such as Ganyu and Xiao addition for 4 star friendship level farm. If you often bring random 4 star for daily friendship farm then albedo is prob the one to bring.

Ningguang can stay up with a lot of 5* main dps albeit with much higher investment. It's truly a shame she doesn't have any support she can benefit from other than Zhongli. Maybe if in future we have a character that can support her that would be nice.

It's never going to happen, geo doesn't react meaningfully with any of the other elements despite naturally being able to do in nature. Anemo doesn't directly react with Dendro either and neither does Cryo. If they don't, what hope is there for Geo. XD

Geo is in my eyes the only of the seven elements that could realistically react with every single other element and still even with it's lacking kit my favorite of the seven Geo + Pyro would be molten which could do large damage and make enemies burn like it would Dendro Geo + Hydro would be mud which could make enemies far slower and flail around a couple times Geo + Cryo could be slush that is basically mud but the Cryo element stays applied for way longer and it deals damage on hit Geo + Anemo could be sandstorm which could lower enemy Geo res by 30% and all other res by 15% Geo + Dendro could be grow which could plant a tree that basically is just bloom but it falls over and if you hit it with Electro it explodes or with Pyro it burns down or with Physical it falls over and deals Physical instead of Dendro damage Geo + Electro could be like embed which basically only applies a much stronger and much longer instance of Electro for various uses And they chose to go with a dinky little shield

I see Geo being in a rough place for a long time. Simply buffing Geo reactions on their surface wouldn't work for two main reasons: first, their character designs and resonance really point towards insularity. Gorou provides DEF which is only usable by GEO, he is numerically the best buffer for Noelle and Itto the Geo main DPS's and certainly helps with Yun Jin, they just work best as a mono element team, so reaction buffs would have to be fantastic to warrent any change. The second is the pure strength of the characters. They are designed with their weak element in mind and thus are powerful on their surface. If you buffed Geo reactions, now Zhongli is not only the ultimate shielder but the ultimate applicator. Itto's damage is raised even further from reactions. Albedo does a lot of damage AND a lot of reactions (although this might make his EM passive make sense). Everyone who is already good is now absolutely ridiculous and people who didn't pull for Geo characters because they were restrictive are now missing out of THE most powerful units in the game, as some people argue they deserve that title even now. It's just very difficult to touch Geo without throwing everything else off.

I agree that there's a risk of unbalancing things, especially if you don't make sure you're not just buffing flex-Zhongli and not changing anything. This was my compromise solution: ROOTED - elemental reaction when a Dendro infused enemy hits a Geo or Crystallized shield on your character, causing the enemy to be rooted in place for 6 seconds and take one tick of damage every 2 seconds (based on shield strength) for the duration. The damage tick counts as an elemental reaction. Hitting a rooted enemy with Cryo, Pyro, Hydro, or Electro breaks the root and turns the remaining damage ticks into a heal for the same amount. (This is to prevent just buffing the flex Zhongli teams instead of buffing Geo.)

I think the risk of unbalancing depends on the nature of the reaction. The first thing to keep in mind is that geo does not leave geo on an enemy. Like anemo, it can only cause the reaction. It cannot set it up. So that means the geo character has to be the one with EM. Now, look at Kokomi or Raiden. With Dendro, both are being used to trigger reactions. But both have to give up their normal main stats to fill that role. Kokomi, without her hp, is a lot less effective as a healer. Raiden is only used for her E, and not her burst. The same would hold true for Zhongli. If he needs 1000 EM to be worthwhile, his hp total would plummet, and with it, his shield power. Itto isn't a problem, because, again, he can't build for EM and defense. And just by including some elemental source for him to proc off, you're giving up a slot that is currently occupied by someone Gorou buffs. And assuming you want to keep Gorou, your team is now Gorou, elemental applicator, and Itto, and probably Zhongli in the 4th slot. So you've given up Albedo. Itto triggering some reactions is not going to make up for that. The second thing to keep in mind is that Geo doesn't need to necessarily interact better with everything. It just needs to have a worthwhile interaction with something. Like, say, a non-crystalize reaction with Dendro, both a hyperbloom/burgeon equiv and a direct interaction. Heck, a geo bloom variant would be nice in that the self damage blooms do would add value to crystalize (which you'd get from such a team, due to geo triggering off the hydro in said team).

@@pavelmitris8036 There is no fundamental problem on the geo character themselves. There is however a fundamental problem on the ELEMENT itself. Geo Characters are literally at the mercy of their element, change their element into anything aside from geo and they'll be decent to broken characters. Only thing fundamentally broken to them is their own base element.

@@jelly2882 I mean ur only half right because hyv continued to pump out def scaleing for geo, also geo charecters are designed right now to promote that mono team style with their abilitys of buffing def and geo dmg like gorou, so ya technicaly if they change up geo element in to more reaction based 3 geo charecters + 1 w/e element would most likely still dominate over other teams, ofcourse that all depends on how and even if they change geo at all. But saying that geo charecters are fine as they are isnt really right, because again, like take bennett the universal support he can buff any element techicaly, so can sucrose and its the same for mona, but only geo charecters are focused on buffing the scaleing that only other geo charecters have, now its not like said gorou cant buff other elements its just nobody cares about def or geo dmg cept for geo charecters so ya they do have issues.

@@pavelmitris8036 I still stand by what i said. Change any of these Geo Characters into any element and they become decent to borderline broken. Zhongli + Albedo, change them into any of pyro, hydro and electro and they'll be amazing offfield applyier/dps (especially Albedo with his EM buff). Change Itto, Noel and Ninguang into Cryo or Pyro and they'll be decent to broken dps. Yunjin and Gorou are stand alones since their buffers and their kit will be tailored to which ever element they'll change into; Basically niche supports. You can't compare them to Bennet and Sucrose since they're byproducts of Hoyoverse's old phylosophy of "make 4 stars viable by making them universal in nature" hence you get units like Xiangling,Bennet,Xingqui, Sucrose,Fschl etc which are borderline to literally broken units. When was the last time we had a universal support/buffer that is not Anemo??? Exactly. Point still stands, the Characters and kits themselves don't have any fundamental problems and if the kit does have a problem it's not the kit's fault but its Geo as an element at fault since again they are at the mercy of their Element. Geo main here: I think it would be cool to let geo have some elemental reactions that make sense with the theme of geo, while keeping crystalize (which, at least I think is a good early game reaction, even if it becomes useless in mid to late game) intact (also keep in mind this suggestions aren't, like, that good or fix anything, I just think they're interesting and could maybe work, or at least inspire people to come with better ideas): (Note: In these new reactions, enemies would be able to be inbued in Geo by Geo attacks, wich makes sense if you think about rocks being embedded in the enemies bodies) 1- Entangle - Dendro + Geo: It would breafly stun/immobilize an enemy affected by this reaction, and give you an elemental shard that, when picked up, would restore shield hp and uptime or a shield if you don't have one already (being the first scenario good because, except for Zhongli, I can't remember a lot of characters having good shield uptime, at least without the help of sacrificial weapons) and give you a thorns like effect, be it dealing damage back to attackers or shooting thorns around the active character when hit, dealing aoe damage 2- Sandstorm (or something like that) - Geo + Anemo: Basically makes a tiny tornado that rapidly deals a bit of geo damage (dmg bsaed off of EM, because anemo units would make the reaction) and that breaks shields somewhat efficiently (because that's an issue with geo, not being able to break almost any elemental shields efficiently). I think this could benefit Geo by giving more team compositions and flexibility so the teams wouldn't be as redundant and repetitive as ever and also maybe buffing certain characters. I'm usually annoyed with the "this game is too easy to care about that" mindset but in this case, the game is literally too easy to care that much about what element you main. It's a simple answer really, they probably find a lot of the geo characters fun, simple as that and that's coming from someone who hates geo.

As a Ningguang main, this video made me cry. Jokes aside, I wish I could deny that Geo is the worst element overall, but that would be twisting the truth. I feel like with Ningguang, the only thing I can really do is save for Zhongli's next rerun and pray to get him, build him, and like... yeah. Presently, I have Noëlle, but she's not nearly as useful. Her shield is a lot weaker, she does a lot less damages, generates no Geo particles, and I don't even have her C1. I still use her with Xiangling and Bennett though, despite the fact that they would be better off in say, a national team for more damages... because what else could I really do ? I somewhat like Noëlle as a character, but I kinda dislike her gameplay. Plus, I had Zhongli in another account (I messed it up though, so I restarted), and compared to him, for utility, she's meh. And the other Geo units ? Geo Traveler sucks in my opinion, at least with Ningguang. His construct obstructs Ningguang's. Gorou scales on defense and is best used with Itto and Albedo. I missed the later when he was available lately, and Yun Jin doesn't pair well with Ningguang. Oh, oh and, for an element that prouds itself on defense, it sure isn't effective at breaking enemies' shields. And why the hell does Anemo has all these elemental reactions while Geo has basically none ? No reaction with Pyro ? Hydro ? Anemo ? Come on, even Dendro, really ? This element is too one-dimensional

As someone with a triple crowned Ning, I'd say that Zhongli isn't a must have for her, though he is definitely nice for his resist debuff. HIs shield, though? I run mine with Diona, Shenhe, and Albedo/Yun Jin. That gives me an initial shield and healing if I do take some damage, but also plenty of cryo application to crystalize (and 15% crit rate for cryo resonance, plus 15% DMG from Shenhe). Now not saying cryo is the way to go (because Benny Boy, but I play almost exclusively female only, so he's not an option for me), just that frequent cryo/pyro/hydro/electro application means you'll crystalize a ton. But, of course, Zhongli is plenty of uses, so if you have him, he's definitely not a bad choice to use. What I do recommend is a Kagura's Verity. Best weapon for Ning by far.

I think Geo has the potential to be the coolest element in the game. To me the idea of spawning structures that buff allies/affect enemies is so cool, but sadly all we have so far is Traveler, Zhongli, Albedo and Ningguang. I would love to see Geo gain some kind of CC to group/trap enemies to mitigate that it’s quite bad with anemo(which had most of the grouping characters and work with all other elements) I know Zhongli ultimate exists, but we need more than just 1 single 5 star. Would be cool to see something like, for example, a reverse Geo Traveler ultimate that drags enemies towards the player and then creates a wall around them that they can’t get past. I would love if Geo was focusing more on defense scaling and structures, to allow the player to manipulate the battlefield in a different way. Give characters more interesting gameplay mechanics to make up for the fact that they can’t use reactions(to prevent too much unga bunga). Increase the cap on all structures that can be placed on the map and(for the love of god) just allow structures to be placed anywhere. I can’t imagine how terrible it must feel to be a new player and pull for Albedo and see his elevator be unplacable in certain areas, like the wolf boss etc. Geo has so much potential, but Hoyoverse doesn’t care about combat, so they won’t ever update anything. I think it’s such a shame tbh.

I think Crystalize should grant all party members Elemental DMG Bonus for every element that was involved in the reaction (for example, picking up a Hydro Crystalize shard gives you Hydro and Geo DMG Bonus) based on your EM whenever a party member picks up a shard. That would actually make Crystalized teams viable and EM worth building on Geo characters. Or maybe make Crystalized shields periodically deal Elemental DMG so they can contribute to the team's DPS. Of course this would mean that Petra would need a different 4-piece Bonus Edit: Or maybe, make the shards deal DMG and add some mini effect onto them when a shard or a shiled hits an opponent. Maybe Pyro will be called Eruption and deal DoT Pyro DMG, Electro will have some sort of magnetize effect that draw enemies in, Hydro will create a mud field that traps enemies and slow their movement, and Dendro (let Geo react with Dendro pls hyv) consistently applies Dendro Aura that deals no DMG on enemies

I feel like something that could make geo a bit more relevant would be reacting with dendro- we have bloom, hyperbloom, burgeon, quicken, spread , and aggravate. I feel like it would be cool if we could also have something like vine lock or something that can shred resistance to dendro and geo as well as some cc like for 2-3 seconds mobs can't move. Something like freeze but with dendro and geo. I think that could be cool, and it would make anemo an even less recommended element than it already is when playing with dendro comps.

I think one thing that would help geo be more viable outside of mono-geo comps is a character that will give damage when you trigger crystalize. Maybe a geo character that gives you a shield, and if you pick up a crystallize shard while its active, it would pulse dealing damage of that element around you. Would actually provide a good incentive to try and make geo reactions.

I think that, just like transformative reactions got buffed, crystalize also need a buff. What I suggest is that when a crystalize shield come to it's end (either by duration or breaking or even by taking another crystalize shard) the current crystalize shield should shader dealing GEO dmg around us. This would not auto apply GEO on hit (OR if it apply GEO on hit then it would need to follow standard ICD), but the dmg would scale of EM. Imagine like the bloomcore we create but we can carry it around and it shield us before exploding. This would allow MiHoyo to not buff crystalize shield strenth, but inhance the crystalize reaction as a hole. I'm just afraid that they might make such a change as part of the kit of a 5 star character like Nilo's super bloom, but geo.

An idea I've had since the beginning of Sumeru is an expansion upon crystallize shields. For instance, dendro could have a reaction with a Hydro Crystallize shield and grow barbs/thorns that deal Bloom damage when getting in spitting distance of enemies. Or with an Electro crystallize shield could interact with Dendro to have a whip that periodically attacks out from the shield, dealing Quicken or Aggravate damage. Even outside of Dendro, maybe a Cryo crystallize shield could interact with Hydro to do shatter damage when they interact, while a Hydro crystallize shield interacting with Cryo could create a freeze that is shorter than an actual freeze would be in duration. There is so much possibility with the ideas Hoyo has already introduced, but instead of capitalizing on them to make an even more enriching gameplay experience they instead pour focus into lackluster events that can be done with in minutes, well, at least when they aren't being time gated.

Geo being good with itself and almost only itself is honestly a good thing. You already have 6 elements that rely on reactions, having one single element with a different and ''autonomous'' playstyle is just variety, and that's good. I find it hard to complain about variety in a varied game.

@@arzoucaillou5107 Pretty easily, actually. Eula, for example, debuffs phys resists by up to 23% (though ideally, you want her C2 for this, so you get the 4s cool down on her hold E). Xinyan debuffs phys resists. Rosaria and Shenhe, both debuff phys resists. You can always use Zhongli for his resist debuff as well. So you could easily make a phys based team that uses Eula, Rosaria/Zhongli/Shenhe, Yun Jin or Xinyan (or an off-fielder like Yelan or Albedo), and, say, a non-C6 Bennett. Not hard to push the resists of non-robot mobs below 0%, at which point the benefit gets halved, and even against robots, knocking 40%+ off their resists means that you can easily chop up all but the cranked up Abyss bosses. As far as geo resonance goes, not really worthwhile going for. Phys gets more DMG than other damage types (as in, a phys DMG cup provides more DMG than a pyro cup), so the DMG from geo resonance tends to help it less than, say, 15% crit rate from cryo or 25% atk from pyro. Furthermore, Eula's C1 buffs phys DMG. Xinyan buffs DMG while her shield is up. Shenhe buffs DMG for all attack types. It is also pretty common to find phys DMG on weapons. Basically, the devs make it easier to get DMG for phys to make up for the lack of reactions. And that means that extra DMG from the geo resonance has a tendency to result in less of an overall damage increase (percentage-wise) than it does for other elements. Of course, individual geo characters, like Zhongli or Yun Jin can be worth using, so you can get wind up with geo resonance as a nice bonus. But that's all it should be. There are two things that do hold such a team back, though. The first is a lack of another 5-star DPS phys character. Eula's DPS is considerably higher during her burst period than out of it, so you ideally want another character to swap to during that time. Part of why Raiden pairs so well with her (though, obviously, energy regen and super conduct are also there). The second is shields.

Electro had always been better than Geo. The Dendro reactions just made Electro stronger and made it go higher into the list at 3rd place behind Hydro and Anemo, although the gap between Electro and those 2 are pretty big, Electro is no doubt one of the best elements right now.

What if the crystalize shields also buffed a specific stat depending on the other element in the reaction? Like cryo could boost crit, hydro could boost health, etc. Could be a way to make geo be more meta without having to make major changes in the game mechanics. Similar to how swirl has two functions (cause a big burst of elemental damage while also spreading that applied element to other enemies), geo would have two purposes.

We also don't have an "upcoming geo nation" to expand upon the element because Liyue is already out. Hydro, pyro and cryo will probably be expanded upon when their nations come out. So geo is even more screwed because there's no in-game reason to expand upon. The Chasm would have been a good time but they didn't do anything. ;-;

i think crystalize shields should have a cleanse effect like xinyan and diona shields have for the element they absorb. it can be the opposite of anemo which disperses the element instead it applies it to yourself and it would synergise with some anemo units like kazuha/sayu that infuse the element they are afflicted with or can enable some self overload/swirl shenanigans with other cleanse characters like dori/jean/bennet

Vars, what do you think of an idea to implement subreactions to crystallize? To make it possible for other elements to interact with crystal cores, similarly like that did with dendro cores? Geo centric teams would be left untouched for people who want to play like that, and for others it would create ways for interesing team comps. Plus it fits Mihoyo's current model of fixing things, which is add something new, instead of changing something that exist already

One way for geo to catch up on elemental mastery and reaction is to put a pulsating effect on crystalized shields for an added elemental application. The pulse could be 2.5 seconds or down to 1.5 secs and the pulse damage is dependent on the Geo character's EM.

I always have to remind myself that all of this talk about this kind of stuff is always in the context of people that play the Spiral Abyss. As someone who has never cared about touching that mode I've honestly never felt any problems with Geo feeling weak. I love using Noelle as my main DPS, and I use Geo Lumine for energy, and it's great steamrolling everything that stand sin my way xP

You have wrong information 3:15 Zhongli is not the only neutral shield in the game, since the change was for all geo characters shield. this mean both Yujin and Noele also has 1.5 all element res in their respective shield and the same could be said to crystalize of Geo element that hatchling geovishaps drops when dig.

@kollie79 bennett is less needed in a geo comp considering the amount of atk you get during your burst and the def boost from gorou being insane. benny'll probably be more useful in other teams. all you need for itto is gorou and if you have him albedo is a really good choice. zhongli can fit in but so can anyone else tbh (i see fischl being used as a good battery) that is of course not to say bennett is a wasted slot

While I definitely agree that Geo is the weakest element, I would like to share something that happened to me the other day, because it surprised me a lot. I was doing the spiral abyss, and for the room with two Ruin Drakes(I think it's floor 12 chamber 2), I used Xingqiu, Hu Tao, Zhongli, and Albedo. I kept Zhongli's shield up, kept the Drakes inside the range of Albedo's skill, and used Xingqiu's burst before Hu Tao's skill, then alternated Normal and Charged attacks until it wore off. I used Albedo's burst a few times, but I haven't gotten him enough ER to be able to use it every time I use Xingqiu's. I didn't use Zhongli's burst at all, but when the Drakes used their special attack and got resistances to the element which had dealt the most damage, I was surprised to see that they both got Geo resistance, rather than the Hydro or Pyro resistance I was expecting. So my Albedo who I've had for less than a month is already doing more Geo damage than my Hu Tao or C6 Xingqiu, even with Vaporize, the EM from Albedo's burst, and the res shred and atk bonus from Zhongli with 4pc Tenacity.

Reaction this, reaction that... There are a lot of elements, I don't think it's that bad if some of them are more dependant on reactions than the others. With that being said, there are a few changes I would make: -Shatter should scale with physical damage, not EM. This would open the door for units like Eula to enjoy a damage boost to her sustained damage while playing with Hydro units. -Geo should work with Dendro... like wtf? I can imagine a mechanic similar to Bloom. You put Dendro on the target and apply Geo to it, which puts a "Soil" aura on the enemy. After that you apply Hydro on top of that to proc "Grow", which like Swirl does AoE Dendro damage in a small area around the target and applies Dendro to the other enemies. Since it's a triple elemental reaction it helps balance it so that people can't run teams with 3 Geo characters to take advantage of all of Gorou's buffs like in a mono geo team. We have to keep in mind that characters like Eula and Itto are somewhat overtuned due to the fact that they cannot amplify their damage through reactions, so adding reactions to those elements should be done with that in mind.

huh, now that i look at it, of all elements i have build, the least built so far are my geo characters. i only have zhongli built, cause his shields have helped me survived so many times. i tried building ningguang but i stopped due to having other characters already built and wanted to focus first on those. plus the geo hypostasis is a pain to farm. i feel like in playing geo comps, it's either full geo or one geo in a team. gorou encourages the four geo team comp but yun jin encourages a one geo team comp. i do like a suggestion of making geo be an element best suited for physical teams. and yeah, i can see how geo can be seen as basically physical with yellow color text instead of white. i do have an idea of buffing geo. maybe make a full geo or a three geo team resonance. since geo lacks in reactions, they should instead make up for it in team composition. and maybe crystalize should also affect enemies. maybe whenever crystalize takes place, the affected enemies should have their defense and resistance decrease. also it should help in breaking shields. make it a weaker version of zhongli's hold shield skill. or maybe geo should also have a reaction to geo. if not a new reaction, maybe just another crystalize. this will also incentivize the use of more than one geo characters in the team.

The way to fix geo is to make crystalize more impactful for all teams. I believe the different elements should effect the character differently and stack up to 3 times with 10 sec duration that is refreshed on a crystal pick up. Fire: gives 10% atk and def Cryo: gives 7% crit dmg Hydro: gives 5% elemental dmg Elctro: gives aura(even if shield broken) that reduces nearby enemy def 5% This way geo has greater use in all teams and can increase damage output close to other reactions.

Something interesting would be a character that breaks their own allies' shield and deals damage based on its resistance, either having a limitation on breaking character created shields or differentiating character shields from crystalize shields. Something like a split scaling (I know, cursed) where you could focus on popping multiple crystalise shields for constant damage or exploding one big character shield for nuke damage. They could slap a passive that changes crystalize to allow said character to hold up to 3 crystalize shards without gaining a shield and a low cd tap E to break the colelcted shards. On the spirit of overcomplicating, have each tap E that hits an enemy grant a stack and a hold E creates, guess what, A SHIELD based on the stacks. The Q creates an explosion centered on the character, breaking all character shields active at the moment and inheriting part of their remaining hp as damage. Add a second passive that increases the party's shield strengh/duration or something and then to tie it all together perfectly a super useful and game changing third passive that increases the rewards if the character is sent on a 20h expedition on x nation. I might be talking out of my ass, but I'm really proud of the shield breaking motif and the game changer third passive. (in hindsight, it feels scummy and badly designed to put "the fix to the geo element" as a character, which is why I think it's more likely to happen, imagine the hype that would ensue the "NEW INSANE WAIFU/HUSBANDO TOTTALY BROKEN WITH GEO")

If you asked me, the simplest solution would be to apply something akin to Zhongli’s buff in a smaller scale to the crystallize reaction where it would reduce the elemental resistance of enemies but instead of doing it for all types, the resistance debuff would be for the elemental type of that crystallize shield. For example, if you create a pyro shield using crystallize, getting that shield would reduce the pyro resistance of your nearby enemies.

I love the new geo reactions u mentioned here. As a Ninguang main yes I would love to get more reaction to play with her cause rn I only play her with zhongli and bennet.The last spot is kinda lacking.

I hope that at some point we'll get some Petra-like sets that perhaps increase the energy of party members whose elements are the same as the shield when the shield is struck, or makes Crystallize radiate the element of the shield. But we haven't gotten a new geo since 2.4, and we only have 3 5*s...

I wish a new standard 5 star character with geo. And make this character the missing piece for the geo element in some way. There are so much potential and I love geo characters. Gorou can attract geo shields for example. I wish there was new interactions with geo shields. Like making them do geo damage when picking them. Or different buffs than just resistance to that element Make geo fun mihoyo please !! The release of dendro is a ton of fun, and they made a lot of characters good now. I wish something like that in the future for geo

You should do dendro next! I feel dendro is in the reverse situation of geo. Its reactions are amazing for both its own party members and the elements involved but its almost required. Dendro can hardly stand on its own and is overly reliant on others to perform well and while it does very well it doesnt have anything for itself. It is the opposite of geo not wanting to work with itself unless absolutely nessecary for the resonance. Take a look at nahida, she was obviously made for dendro reactions in mind but outside of those reactions she can only offer an EM buff at best (which it is a huge buff but thats about it). Her skill only triggers if a reaction is caused and her burst only buffs if you have pyro, hydro, or electro. Her whole kit is centered around doing reactions and heavily incentivises those be dendro related and none of the dendo characters we have currently do anything to help a fellow dendro unit perform better besides being a battery. Dendro is one of the most flexible but the least rigid and is thus the reaction version of geo providing something for everybody BUT itself (and cryo but you can still effectively use cryo in dendro bloom teams so still kinda)

But every element except Geo relies on other elements to perform their best. And I'd say Anemo is more guilty of this because at least there's an artifact set which decreases Dendro RES (unlike VV which only buffs other elements).

Pyro is usually a bunch of aoe except for yoimiya and big hits on their own, Hydro makes surviving easier with its resonance and characters who are capable of healing except for 3 of them (yes mona *can* heal with protitype and so does xingqiu), Electro is about energy generation so that means kore bursts and thus more damage, cryo simply being applied slows down enemies and can give itself crit rate through resonance, Anemo has cc and gives cooldown reduction and stamina reduction through resonance, and geo is geo. Dendro gives EM through resonance and doesnt have any inate qualities about the element portrayed through its characters or the element itself like anemo's CC, geo's constructs, pyros large amount of aoe attacks, or cryo's slowdown through its aura. Excluding artifacts because we all know anemo would NOT be the best element without VV it still wouldn't be the worst in a mono element team. Dendro only gives em through resonance and theres nothing dendro usually does simply for being dendro and would fall to the very bottom in terms of how well it would perform. It has no grouping capabilities (anemo), fast attacks and quick energy generation (electro), large aoe (pyro), life prolonging utility (hydro), constructs to shape the battlefield (geo though it definitely gives itself more than just that), or crit rate and reduction of enemy movement (cryo). Sure dendro characters scale with EM usually except collei but dendro itself cant do anything without reactions. If you exclude reactions dendro falls to the very bottom of how effective it is on its own as an element

Some character or artifact set that modifies crystalize might be good to breathe life into geo reactions. A way to tweak crystalize to maybe confer a unique additional buff based on the crystalized element, sorta like how Nilou alters dendro cores. (Or even shatter. Side note--I feel like shatter should've included a defense shred, sorta like superconduct). Also a means for crystalize to sorta 'refresh' or stack with itself when you pick it up multiple times. Like maybe there's a hard cap, but I'm thinking something like Risk of Rain 2's barriers, where you can keep proccing them but they slowly start to degrade rather than lasting until a a set timer point. They still wouldn't be very strong on their own, but the ability to stack them would make them more reliable. This could also make for an interesting interaction where the more crystalize shield power you have, the more of another benefit you get, and they'd still be unique from the flat shields characters can provide through skills.

The Hydro + Geo = Mud reactions sounds neat, but Cryo does that on application already. For reaction variety, what if Mud created Geo constructs with mounds or balls of mud? Beyond that I can't think of anything that this reaction could do that's unique. I was thinking of something like Bloom where hitting Mud mounds could explode and cause Geo damage, which further accentuates shields as a form of protection against this explosion. Also, if they can make Bloom cores have reactions on them, surely they can make the Crystallize rocks also have sub reactions.

Personally, I'd love to see more physical damage dealers that specialises in basic attacks. Power through sheer force sounds so appealing to me that's why the left click characters like Itto are my favourites, but I'm sure physical characters are gonna be locked to either electro or cyro

I think a cool idea would be to add a geo reaction with a frozen enemy (enemy effected by Hydro and cryo reaction) creating a effect called "Fissure" that would be an AOE that would add up 3 damages that made the reaction (so the Hydro damage, the cryo damage and then the geo damage would all be added up and combined into one damage during the fissure reaction. The size of the aoe effect would depend on how much that combined damage is , the larger the damage the larger the AOE and the longer the stun effect so like the dendro hyperbloom or bludgeon effects it would be a three part reaction but this one would favor one time burst damage attacks or any high damage one time attack since it takes only the initial attacks that caused the freezing and then the geos attack, so having small damage but reoccurring damage doing this would make for a small fissure reaction overall while you could get multiple fissures going for those big one time damage attacks would be the most time efficient while giving you the most damage, and this would also give certain characters more importance while not completely side lining meta characters or builds.

It'd be cool if later on in this series if hoyo added new types of interactions between elements or new mechanisms for teams since now that we've peaked at dendro reactions, things are going to feel stagnant. This could be a good opportunity to introduce something new to geo as well.

All geo shields have the 1.5 universal damage absorption. They changed how they all worked along with the buff to Zhongli.

Mihoyo is actually really smart about Geo, step back and think for a moment, all Geo characters are very easy to play and straight forward, with Zhongli being the pinnacle of a comfort pick. I believe that the reason why Geo is designed and kept that way is because Mihoyo knows that a large enough portion of their players can’t bother learning reactions

No, characters is how Mihoyo earns money, they kept Geo like that because it isnt popular, its not worth the resources invested. Why would you gamble on Geo rework when Raiden is the most sold banner, Kazuha the most used character in abyss and so on?

this makes no sense, the only geo character available to you normally is noelle, and most people that play do not like her gameplay, even if they like geo. they would have to learn about the game to even decide they'd want more geo characters, which means they would have to learn about reactions in the first place. not to mention, after watching new people play, when they don't care about reactions, they don't go to geo (not that they could anyway) they just... spam whoever they like that they happen to have

@@silverYolo You have a point and it seems that I’ve made a mistake, not caring about reactions isn’t the only reason one decide to play Geo, perhaps they’ve learnt the reactions but don’t want to remember or can’t remember it, or maybe because setting up reactions all the time can be quite tedious for some people. But my point still stands is that Geo is not as “difficult” as other element, and some people find appeal in this. It’s not to say that it is a brain dead thing like spamming random characters, but the shield, the simple rotation and their main form of damage is just going into normal attack mode or press one button like Ningquang means that it is rather ‘casual’. And apparently, considering Mihoyo’s actions, there are more casual Genshin players than the dedicated ones.

@@rsfakqj10rsf-33 again, this makes no sense. people are not playing geo because they hate other reactions or find them difficult to do. most new people who don't care about reactions just take whatever characters they have and spam their abilities together, which results in reactions anyway. this also doesn't make sense from a difficulty standpoint because they would literally have to learn about reactions and characters anyway to decide that, and setting up a geo team is harder (and more expensive) anyway, because they'd still have to get the right characters, gear, and rotations, which is completely out of line for the whole "geo is less difficult" thing and also lastly doesn't make sense from a difficulty standpoint because this implies that a) all geo characters are simple to use and b) no other character in another element is simple to use. why would someone seek out to build a geo team (that does in fact require work to do) when they can take the 3 characters they got from wishing on whatever current banner because they looked cool and spamming their simple abilities?

@varsII so to fix give Geo with Dendro "root" slows and deals small damage but heals you Geo with Electro "crystalize" shorter freeze but deals additional damage if you then stagger the opponent (locks in the skill applying Geo and Electro so your not gettingcrystalize and freeze or crystalize and burn) Geo with Hydro "muddy" the source of the mud reaction pushes them backwards wile staggering (locks in the skill applying Geo and Hydro) Geo with Fire "lava" big damage once (locks in the skill applying Geo and Fire) Geo with Anemo "sand storm" continues damage but longer lasting not locked in Geo and Freeze "permafrost" (like the the ground being frozen) larger area and cancels other elemental aplications applied befor it with longer lasting ice aplication

I actually like Geo being insular, niche, expensive, needing high investment and commitment. I like its units being designed with a lot of power to compensate for it. I've been a Noelle main since day one and I've always remained competitive with it. Crystalize works for Noelle and Itto because it provides them constant shields while they normal attack, not amazing but they fill their role. Could Geo use a buff? Absolutely, but I enjoy the things that make it unique, the good and the bad.

In my opinion if anemo was another reaction that can mix with geo depending on what it would be it could help geo, like that sandstorm reaction you were talking about if it increases damage for both geo and anemo damage it would help increase the damage for characters like Xiao who uses Zhongli and Albedo sometimes and Itto who could uses someone like jean or sayu to heal so if it gave a huge buff for only geo and anemo reactings it would at least help geo and anemo dps become much stronger.

Thank you for another great vid Vars! Geo is in a really tough spot as thematically it’s really cool but gameplay wise it’s just not fun A rework would be great but I don’t see it coming in any other form besides a character like Nilou Honestly a lot of things need to be reworked, notably mostly things from version 1 (some old characters need some buffs/changes, spiral abyss needs something new to shake up the gameplay, resin is just not working especially with a 7th weekly boss being added and the travesty of the artifact system has been screaming for a fix for so long! BP also needs some changes to be more engaging (please bring back the collect local specialties!) But regardless of all that I love this game and whatever happens I’ll be sticking with it XD

I have a mono Geo team, and yes, Geo is the worst element in Genshin. So much effort for farming to get them on par with the other kinds of teams. Then when the Abyss comes with the requirement of the involvement of other elements (for doing mechanics), it's such a pain to deal with. And it's hard to actually find an element to replace an Geo unit out of a mono Geo team, considering how little they would synergize with each others. Not to say, Gorou was that one unit that require you a team with 3 Geo characters already. Playing a mono Geo team is such a great experience, but sometimes you'd struggle hard.

@kollie79 yep the shield was the mechanic. As well as the current Abyss which needs Dendro and Electro (or at least Electro). Soon the Dendro Hypostasis will require a Dendro character. But for the majority of times over the last two years, yea it's mostly just the shield that I referred to. The flex slot is not available many of time, be cause two problems, first is team comp (the flex character might not meet the expectation for my team rotation) and second is they would run into multiple element types of shield, which 1 flex character can't do all the work. Back then I even have 2 Geo teams, which each team has one flex slot. But as time goes on, things change and I have to get rid of one. And not to say even though both of my Geo teams was pretty well invested, the dmg is way too impractical for clearing Abyss as well as taking care of the mechanics.

As a suggestion addition, I wish that once you crystalize and gain a shield it would explode after gaining a new crystalized shard or if it's effect of the shield ended around the character in x amount of radius in a way earthquakes/shockwaves work, the explosion/shockwave would apply twice as much elemental value so it would keep the respective element while creating more explosions and maintain element longer for other characters to apply other elements. The shockwaves would trigger other geo structures and trigger the same element in a chain reaction and apply the respective element into the structure. Azdaha and other geovishaps can apply respective element on their bodies and use these different interactions of elemental energy and attacks and I would like to see genshin to apply these interactions onto the present geo characters. These ideas are fresh but they can be changed and scaled however you like it to be. Maybe one day we'll see a character that makes tons of absolutely broken geo constructs and trigger slow shockwaves one after another with respective elements applied.

As a proud Geo main: yeah I can agree. I tend to enjoy leaning into mono-geo as overall the Geo element is the one I find most fun in this game. I tend to build a lot of units in the game for the purposes of comfort of play, which does tend to mean I just don't really mess with reactions that much in comparison to other players. Dendro really only now has started to change that, as I've loved Aggravate/Spread. In that sense, while Geo, especially Mono-Geo can be pretty hard to set up and assemble, it ends up being a pretty simple game plan to follow in terms of getting all my damage out. I feel less pressure to say, hit one big vaporize number when I can indeed just beat-stick the enemy down as an option. I guess for me, I like that Geo gives me an option to play the game that I enjoy, in a way that I enjoy since there are times I really can't be bothered about reactions but still want to fight things. And while now my account is built to a point where I have been comfortably 36ing Abyss for a while now, Mono Geo still ends up being my favorite team due to how simple the game plan is. Also helps that that team was part of what allowed me to get my first 36 too, huh? idk, I just enjoy Geo. If they buff it, yay. If not, I'm still gonna play it anyway cause I enjoy it.

I don't mind geo being focused on mono element teams, however I think if they want to do this there needs to be a lot more geo characters added to the roster. We need more Geo DEF based on field and off field DPS units for a start. Also Gorou needs to be run more often and added to the starglitter shop, or maybe even be a free character from spiral abyss.

I wish that geo could be the premier mono element buffing element while anemo is the premier multi element buffing element. This could be done (if starting over) by: 1. Making the geo artifact hold the VV resistance shred bonus, while creating a transformative reaction resistance for anemo to shred. 2. Letting geo construct absorb a different element (which can be thematic with lava/mud, etc). If it absorbs pyro, for example, the constructs damage will deal pyro damage with little elemental application, with the damage scaling with the addition of both geo and absorbed damage percent. This allows for the geo to be desired in mono element teams that provide damage percent buffs and single element resistance shred. It can also act as a sub DPS to hyper carry units like Hutao by shredding resistance and also benefiting from the buffs provided to the primary element. They are also simple to build for newer characters as you just go for geo damage percent and the dedicated set (Petra) The more I think about geo this way, I realize that anemo being the premier buffing element isn’t thematically intuitive. Spreading fire or cold doesn’t make someone who is resistant to it any less resistant. Transforming it with lava or solids that conduct heat (like metals feeling more cold that air of the same temperature) actually would reduce resistance. Anemo is currently both the best element for hyper carry buffing as well as multielement reactions (EC swirl), so this change would balance the game a lot

The reaction that perturbed me the most was hiperbloom, i was thinking that it was a seed with geo, but when i discovered that was with electro i got surprised. Personaly for an hyperbloom you need to plant your seeds to see them grow, it could be much better, with agravette and spread continuing to be electro and dendro exclusive

pre-video: - as much as i love geo but this day finally come haiz. i can see a lot of people will make the arguement that geo is a stand alone element, def element,..... but guys remember this game combat promote element reaction as it core gameplay (for example even physical team need superconduct, mono pyro/hydro/electro use swirl to vv shred) so those arguement do not justify what mhy is doing with geo. All i want is that they rework geo reaction and they miss the biggest chance with dendro cause dendro and geo should have a reaction was so obvious tbh. - for people who don't see why geo being weak and not reactive with other element is a problem, imagine this in the future as more char got release: the other 6 elements have new char to play with, new comp with many variation and becoming better thanks to it, while geo stay the same, same old playstyle, almost same old team with little to none variation. And NO!!!! pump up the geo char scaling won't help cause that basically the same with electro before dendro arrive (anyone want to mention Raiden then i want to remind you she is great cause she is raiden not because she is electro and an exception do not make the majority) Post-video: - thank you for explaining all of that beautifully and exactly what i think as well - at this point, i feel like they r just too lazy to even try thinking of changing geo so eventhough i really hope geo somehow got a reaction rework/overhaul but i don’t think they will ever do it atleast in a foreseeable future

@kollie79 - imo cause mhy make it very clear that reaction is core part of it combat, not even about the current meta but i'm talking how mhy design the game, reaction have always been the core part of the game combat. - Also a fun part of genshin is messing around with different team comp and a lot of variation. This is possible to thanks to reaction cause it give you option and larger pool of char to choose from to build team. - Geo being mono is bad thing cause yeah it fun unga bunga for while then what, you can't change anything cause there is no other option for geo and the pool is extremely small if you only able to do mono geo. - and if you waiting for new char then if we lucky, we might get 1 geo char per year but how many team do we get to test them with them with cause back to earlier problem, mono geo team don't have much team anyway. if they work the current mono geo team then it great but if they don't, now what? we waited for 1 year for a new geo char that doesn't work well with other elements due to it being geo and then it couldn't work well with mono geo - lastly from business standpoint, why would they want to make a geo char? If they know geo is not very interactable with other element meaning most people that like to play with elemental reaction, which is the majority of genshin player imo, will definitely hestitate to gacha for the char (even if they like the char cause there might be a char they also like coming soon with more option/interaction with other elements than geo) or even don't bother checking out the char cause it geo.

I’m with you here, like the characters within geo are strong but that’s mainly due the character themselves being strong rather than the actual element being strong. Sure, geo is inert and basically stands on its own, but well, you’ve already mentioned the problems with this. It just goes against the inherent design of the game. Honestly just wished they did more things revolving around crystalize and make geo the opposite of anemo or rather just expand on this because the 4 pc archiac petra exists but no one can truly use it for supporting bar Zhongli and that only if he’s ran in international for the unstaggarable to go crazy with Childe but you sacrifice a bit of damage where you get less shred cause 20% from Zhongli vs 40% from VV, no EM buff from sucrose, but you do get a higher elemental dmg bonus of +35% which doesn’t compensate enough if you make the comparison to how much Kazuha buffs. Like I wanna see crystalize buffer than shreds on crystalize and runs the 4 pc archaic petra. A “reverse Kazuha” of sorts

Simple. Its reaction sucks, so its meant to be played with other geo units. But even then, the geo roster we currently have is very underwhelming. Theres basically only 1 team viable which is itto hypercarry. Oh right, not even mentioning that it doesnt react with dendro. Geo is pretty much dead sadly

@kollie79 Maybe they meant in terms of their own teams? For geo, that has proven to be good as a standalone team, it is just Itto (or Noelle) hypercarry. The units themselves aren't underwhelming at all, it's just the roster that's pretty underwhelming because there's way less choices despite already being two years in. And in terms of being separated; Yunjin, Albedo, and Zhongli are the only ones that can be considered the most versatile among them, while Noelle and Ningguang are the most optional to build. It's really down to geo needing more time to release more characters and weapons, but it seems like that won't be too often, especially since dendro and elemental reactions are what Hoyo is eyeing right now.

@kollie79 you are describing the specific characters of geo users not the actual element itself. With the introduction of the dendro reactions it's sad to see that geo barely does anything now. It's not a weak element at all, its just the worst one compared to any other element.

True. Gorou is the only support, Yun Jin only synergizes with Noelle, Noelle is a budget Itto, Ning fell off (Tighnari is litteraly her but Dendro btw), Zhongli is... Well good investment if you have skill issues, Albedo is a must have for mono Geo, Itto is the only viable DPS and Geo traveler is clunky. Basically, Geo characters suck and we need more of them. We need some good 4* that are available to us because Geo is too exclusive and we need a standard Geo 5* DPS who would synergize with both new supports and the old ones, they can also have lower celling than Itto, doesn't matter just give us something XD

Nah, Geo has no underwhelming unit: -Zhongli has the strongest shield in the game -Albedo Is a decent Flex slot in many teams -Itto and C6 Noelle are pretty good Main Dps -Gorou Is the best support for Geo units, while Yunjn Is the best One for NA focused characters (except Ayato) -Geo Traveler gives CR, has decent particle generation and does decent damage -And Ningguang, who's the weakest Geo character, can do a decent amount of damage when properly built The problem with Geo Is that most of teams are very expensive and, as an element, It provides nothing outside of the character's kit. The only way I can see Hoyoverse buffing Geo atm, Is by introducing a EM scaling Geo character.

13:42 I love you're idea of having Geo be Area Control that adpats with it's element, Pyro is damage, Cryo is CC, Anemo adds additional soft cc, Electro adds more centered damage(like Spikes from the ground the deal Max health damage), and Dendro would Summon an area of Healing and Defense. Eath is changed by the enviorment is what earth is, a Shield isn't the only thing it can do. or for a more lazy answer the shield does more than just shield you, like for Pyro every Third attack has the shield explode Pyro damage around you, Electro Shocks enemies that hit you, while granting increased Attack speed, Anemo makes you use less energy, when dealt enough damage have a burst of anemo blast enemies back etc. Just more than basic "Protect against the wind element and thats all it can do for a generall thing that game is supposedly built around" Mihoyo didn't really think about this like they didn't think about much of the game, just the people they pay did(the Music artist, Character artists and Coders), which Ruined any chance this game had to being a game in the first place. I wonder if vars is gonna mention Geo's artifact set, archaic Petra. Then compare it to anemo's artifact viridescent. Both artifacts having the same property of using the element's sole elemental reaction to boost the team's damage. Then mention the few things that make viridescent better, like how elemental dmg bonus from the archaic would suffer more from diminishing returns due to it having more ways of being obtained compared to elemental shred, then mention how you can really only have one elemental dmg bonus from the set at a time compared to possibly all 4 elements being able to be affected by viridescent at the same time, on how archaic is harder to use (for swirl the character just has to trigger the reaction, while for crystallize not only does the reaction have to be triggered, but the one wielding the set has to be the one picking it up) and how swirl is conducive to the main goal of doing damage while crystallize is more survivability focused and not conducive to doing damage

What really made VV better than petra is that it also boosts the damage of your anemo unit. Petra does nothing for your geo char.

Would like to see crystallize be rework so that it will explode in an aoe of the element of the crystal shard based on the damage it would take when it breaks so that the elemental damage part is utilized. Sadly, hoyov just wants to make side games than introducing gameplay improvements or introduce a limited 5 star character that would be "geo buff" so that they can milk it.

I disagree. It's fine, that the fact Geo can do what it can without reactions is awesome to be. Brute force it. But I'll also say I don't think any of the elements are bad. I feel the objective of calling something the worst is pointless unless it can not function at all or as expected. But that's just my take, looking forward to the video.

i don't disagree with you but the problem is the game combat is all around elemental reaction as it core so for a geo to be non reactive with other element will hurt geo and it char roster in the long run imo

I like Geo a lot but its still the worst when compared to other six. It would make sense for crystalize to drain a lot of shield from the enemies but it barely does anything.

Can you make a video essay about how a "jump attack"would actually be more useful than a "plunge attack"? Cz , when do we actually use a plunge attack right(Besides Xiao)? There's no actually moment in combat where a plunge attack is feasible( unless we're on a higher ground). But now with the spectres and with the balladeer boss fight which requires us to hit those flying things with wide aoe attacks as normal attacks cannot hit them cz they're in the air, it seems like a jump attack would actually add more to combat gameplay. Not saying remove plunge but maybe jump and holding attack button to plunge(from a certain height), but jump and press attack to attack airborn enemies.

The hardest content in Genshin (if you can even call it hard) is designed around being a dmg check. Getting the max rewards from SA is about doing it fast. They could somewhat fix the issue if they removed the timer aspect of getting rewards and made it instead how many characters survive, then make the enemies hit much, MUCH harder, like one-shotting your DPS kinds of hard. That way there would now be a point to having a dedicated defender. Another idea would be to redesign crystalize as being a % base dmg reducer, the higher the Geo's EM, the higher the % dmg reduction. The duration of this shield is fixed...say 5 secs, and would need to be constantly recharged by crystalize reactions. When it comes to dmg calculations. crystalized shield goes through dmg calculation first so it can act as a supplement to a character skill generated shield by reducing the dmg it has to absorb.

if those crystals could explode and spread their respective elements to enemies, I think Geo characters would find a lot more use outside of their own element. You could turn single target electro application from Fischl into a blast that procs dendro cores, creating a meme team where you build EM on your Geo character. The biggest fuck up they made was not giving Geo a Dendro reaction, I'd have loved to see Geo also create Bountiful Cores when reacting with normal dendro cores so Nilou wouldn't be the only one with access to them. Even if they wanted to leave everything else as it was before, they could have made Geo work with Dendro. Think about it, what combo does better than plants and the soil they grow in?

Personally I think a big issue is just how few Geo characters there are. An insular element is fine. Ironically in a way it makes it non-elemental. But there are only 7 Geo characters right now, only three of which are DPS units and one of those three, Ningguang, is really awkward to play. Not having units to mess around with is a problem for Geo since it doesn't have the flexibility that, say, Pryo has. Even if you don't have a good character to vaporize with, you might have someone to melt with. In this example Geo characters only have 6 potential party members where as Pyro has 19 (the total number of current hyrdo and cryo units) New units need to happen if Geo is going to stay insular, and honestly that could be a way Geo could be made better. Like we just got Dendro Traveller and Nahida who have effects that change based on the specific elements within the party and Nilou who changes the effect of certain reactions when she's in the party. That could be something a new Geo character could add Like imagine Itto, Kokomi, Rosaria and a new Geo character that makes it so Shatter won't unfreeze enemies. Or if the new character leaves lingering effects on the ground if they trigger crystalize, using your examples Pyro could be a pool of lava that deals damage or Hydro leaving a mud puddle that reduces enemy movement by 50+%. That could be super interesting! TL:DR If Geo is to remain insular, it needs more tools to use that it currently does not have
