My feel was that this was a lighter Gloomhaven. Lighter box, lighter art, lighter gameplay, but a lot of mechanics still felt like Gloomhaven.

As much fun as the component drop was, it always bothered me that I couldn't really see individual pieces. This new camera pan solves that problem! And it shows how much space the game takes up on your table. Thanks!

I can't wait to get my copy. A few comments: You can actually be more than one elite class as long as you meet the requirements. The rule is that only one player can be a particular elite class (so you cannot have 2 necromancers). When you take a level in a different elite class, it replaces your current class card, however if you take another level in an elite class that isn't your current class, it will replace it again. When leveling up, there are different symbols next to the cards that you add. One of them indicates that you can replace a card which means that you can cull cards out from your deck which adds another element to the level up process. Additionally, the Side Quest book is not part of the base game. It was a kickstarter bonus or can be ordered directly from Letiman Games for non-backers.

I had to stop by and see for myself... NO COMPONENT DROP! Luckily it has no effect on the quality of reviews ;). Thanks Tom, looks fun!

I can't express enough how cool this game is. I played the prototype quite a bit. This is literally FFT. When and if they come back to KS, this game could be a great game. That random order thing, I was hoping they changed that too. I totally agree with this review.

I really do love this game. It’s been a fun recreation of FFT. I’ll also say the directions need improvement and the boss card actions need clarification. For instance there was an action that read if there are two or more undefeated... Why describe that action in the negative versus saying if you defeated 2 or more. Also there were multiple instances were names changed spoiler warning is it the (c***d) of light or of destiny. Why use them interchangeably. There was another instance were we didn’t know if the boss began emerged or not emerged. Generally I love the game and this is making me want to go back and play Jaws of the Lion.

I just preordered this for my birthday because I was looking for an easier dungeon crawl and I love the level up and class changes they offer.

Ah, sounds like an Aeon's End style turn-order system, which I recall being one of Tom's biggest issues with that game as well. Very fun review to watch! Might have to check this out. And yes, nothing wrong with anime! ^_^

This is a common question: Which game to get for my kids? There are a few very good kids games released lately: Adventure Tactics: Domianne's Tower, Andor the family fantasy game, Chronicles of Avel, CoraQuest, and The Quest Kids According to BGG rating (and their age group as per community): 1 Coraquest 6+ 2 Adventure Tactics: Domianne's Tower 8+ 3 Chronicles of Avel 6+ 4 The Quest Kids 3+ 5 Andor the family fantasy game 5+ Of the 5, the only 1 I own is CoraQuest. It is as good as they say it is. I would argue it is the most play tested by kids out of the bunch, since kids (including the designer's own daughter) was heavily involved in its design. Other than kids, I was also able to play this with adults who has never dungeon crawled before, and they all got it in a few minutes. So this can potentially also be used as a gateway game to start an adult dungeon crawl group, before you start playing Gloomhaven and others. The other games also looks good from the reviews I watched. It just depends on your kids and their age. I cannot speak more about them because I haven't play them.

Question. Obv feels like it's geared to a younger audience (awesome) but also looks like there are a lot of abilities/cards on the dashboard. Did your kids utilize/remember them all, or were you sometimes reminding them "oh, dont forget you have this, and you can do this..."

I'm glad Tom liked it after playing it, even though he didn't when he looked at the KS. Also, this doesn't look like a kid's game does it?

Thank you for the review. I really liked some parts of Gloomhaven but the theme is too dark to be appealing to my kids and I. I think this game will be a great game to level up characters in a lighter setting. Just ordered it from CoolStuff.
