A few short clips taken while I was at
Vavstuga Weaving School.
I want to give a sense of what is taught, but I do not want to give away any of what Becky works so hard, and wonderfully, to teach. The class I took is called "Vavstuga Basics", and I highly recommend it to both new and experienced weavers. It is a "high intensity" class, where you will learn much in just one week.

Hi, Andy! Thank you very much for sharing this! This looks amazing and I planning on attending! I'm really glad they've got dorm rooms so I don't have to drive all over creation before and after class. The weaving alone is enough to keep me busy. Happy Weaving!

I just wanted to let you know that I started watching your videos back in 2015 when I first discovered weaving at Berea College. It was my labor position. Because of this particular video I made it my goal to go to Vävstuga one day. This fall I attended the Väv Immersion class and I am now working there. Thank you for all your work and videos. They have helped and inspired me so much.

That's great, so glad to hear that you got to take a class from Becky and even more that you have a job there now. Say HI to Becky for me. I enjoyed my class there (despite the fact that I got sick and could hardly talk by the last day of class). I'm glad I took that and learned about the Glimaakra looms. I also learned that I prefer my Louet, but would never have know which I liked better had I not taken the class, so it really was a good experience. And thanks for watching my videos. When our son was stationed in Charleston SC with the Navy, we would stop at Berea on our drive from Wisconsin.

I continue to enjoy your videos and am going to Vavstuga for a class in Oct from U.K. This clip has been most helpful. My Louet Spring was purchased on your information some years ago. Thanks for you commitment and teaching.

Becky at Vavstuga teaches a very good, and interesting class, but be warned, the Glimaakra looms are VERY DIFFERENT from the Louet Spring. You will probably feel lost and out of place at a Glimaakra after using your Spring. You will learn alot, and you will fully understand the differences between the looms.

You lucky old dog you! Looked up the school cost and it is way away from where I will ever be able to go. Am not working anymore and on income in the house. Will have to learn as I can from folks like you. Thanks for sharing and keep weaving!! bjr

Hi, Andy! Just stumbled upon this video tour of Vavstuga…enjoyed it a lot! I'm back for three classes this year (Swedish Kitchen with Lisa Hill, then More Classics, and finally Classics)…..how about you? It was nice meeting you…hope to cross paths in a future class. Lots of new ideas coming, from what I hear!

Andy, fascinating! I never conceived of a weaving school, let alone one that has bed and breakfast type accommodations. I loved the shots near the end with all the gorgeous patterns on display, and of course the one of you and your classmates. Thanks for the very well done and absorbing video!

Thanks John, it really was a high intensity week, learned a lot, got a lot done. Great people, great instructor, great food. A comfortable "dorm", how can one do better than to be the only guy in a girls dorm . . . ;)

Thanks for sharing. So enjoyed my little mini tour! I've been curious about this school. Pricey so probably won't be able to attend. Rats!

CC Krull Yes, it is quite pricey! The class is intense, and there is much to do. Almost too much to absorb into one's brain in one week, but also a good experience. I would love to go back, but both distance and price will probably keep me from doing another class here.

Love this video, living vicariously through it since no trip to Vavstuga is likely in my near future. I love that you got to weave on a Glimakra Ideal ! Did you enjoy that loom? How did it compare to weaving on a big Glimakra? Thanks for all your vids, always well-made and informative.

Thank you for sharing this! I was just looking at a selection of weaving benches from Vavstuga. I love their equipment! And I would love to take a class with them, but I'm a long way away. Who knows.

trying to make my old memory work. I know there was a lady from California in my class, and I think one of the others was from either Washington or Oregon, one from Michigan, and then someone closer ones too like Connecticut and New Jersey. Not to mention that I drove from Wisconsin. So people do go to Becky's school from all over.

curmudgeon66 I'm an old dog in weaving. But an old dog can still learn new tricks! It will have to wait in going to any weaving school. I'm in a Music school right now. I gave my beautiful violin to my 20 year old son. He's been eyeing it for some years now. Due to RA, I can't get my neck to put my chin on the chin rest anymore. So I gave it to my absolutely elated son, and bought a ton of lessons from a really good teacher. I got so depressed, but still so happy to pass it on to my big boy. I went into the School's Store to get my son some things that he would need. And looking at the instruments, walking through the store, actually looking for the Cello section. They didn't have any on the "floor". So I asked if they had any? I thought, " I can play a Cello"...So I bought a lovely Cello, and paid for some Lessons from the same school. So I won't be able to afford to go to a weaving school for more advanced techniques etc. And we're in northern Idaho! Gotta tell you...loved the Tartans you've been doing! I'm going to dye some natural bamboo lightweight yarn... in my Clan colors. My Da, an Urqhart, My Ma, a Kerr, both gone some time ago...and weave the Tartans in Bamboo for making Ladies Pleated Skirts. There is no reason that a lady should have to wear wool when most of the Scottish Highland Games are in the heat of summer, or heaven help us, the first week of August in 105 degrees. The ladies will all be thankful!!

Having marched (and played) in a couple of pipe bands over the years, and of course as a piper, worn a woolen kilt in summer with wool socks, etc, it's not just the ladies that shouldn't be running around in pleated skirts in hot weather. Try doing a 2 mile parade playing pipes and wearing a kilt in the hot sun.
