It does spin pretty good when the wind blows right now it just mounted on some rebar i still need to set a post for it and really get it up in the air so i can see how it does. i still planning to ad more pvc blades to it double the number i have now.

Nice. Some things to consider: - An alternator will start to make power at about 1000 rpm (or about 60 rpm VAWT when geared 16:1. - you'll get about 60% of its rated power at 2500 rpm (150 rpm VAWT at 16:1). - I would think that geared down that much it would take a lot of HP to rotate the VAWT under a load. Let us know how it works out.

so far i have seen no increase in outputs. its about the same. but what i have noticed is when the wind slows down they blades do not stall like they used to with a sudden drop of wind.

I would thing you could get the 16:1 ratio you are look for by a reconfiguration of what you have there or adding some to what you have there. I like what you are doing but this VAWT looks somewhat unstable is there anyway to tighten things up a bit? maybe through the center have a pole to extends up through it and guy wires or something? Good luck to you and I hope you do well.

Great work ! but I thik a axial alternator would have been easier and more effective solution than the gear box. You would have less drag and need less energy to start, producing also at low rpm. Look for building axial flux alternators it might also be cheap.

Congratulations on getting off of the grid. That is my dream as well. I'm about to attempt to build a turbine for myself and was wondering how the power output changed when you went from 6 blades to 3?

i think i over killed on the hub set up. using a rear stub axle and a vw bug front rotor turned down. But with that set up i can easily convert it to a standard wind mill if it does not work out for me. plus we get some super strong winds here turning typhoon season

well so far I have spent around 51,000 peso a little over 1000.00 usd depending on the exchange rate. Right now i am in the middle of putting up the second floor. that will get another water tank a solar hot water heater and more surface area for the water collection. so all and all i could reach the 2000.usd mark just for the water add on's

If you take the music off it will be better. To much noise can not understand what is said.

Why does it have to be bad music on top of it?

I am always perplexed why people cover up what is being said with music that is only distracting.

I love the video and the project, but I'm autistic. I can't hear you talking with the music. It might seem like background to you, but it's foreground to me. I hope this helps for making future videos. Maybe you could have some interesting intro, then turn off the music while you talk. Then maybe have an outro to, if you want. Thank you.
