Thank you so much for the clear instructions for cleaning the brush and putting it back together. I almost took my VAX to the repair shop. I'm so glad I didn't.

Thanks for this - mine conked out today and I bought a new on on way home from work which was rubbish so taking back - your information on how to release the brush has now saved me a lot of money. Thanks

I've got one of those - the suction motor is easy, but have a go at changing the brushroll belt or brushroll motor - that's a bit more tricky! I had a go at taking the base to bits but they hide screws behind the wheels, and I wasn't able to remove the wheels without fear of breaking them. I see quite a few of these on ebay from time to time where the brushroll belt has snapped, but its such a game to change it.

This is interesting. You swap out the old motor for the new and only have 2 terminals to re-connect. It's worth it to try !!! Thanks vac spot !

*Summary* Step 1: Indiscriminately remove every screw you can reach. Be sure to pile them up where you're bound to knock them to the floor later. Step 2: Realise there's a staggeringly obvious push tab that probably actually opens the motor box. Step 3: Discover you only needed to remove like 3 screws. Step 4: Make a point of how frightfully easy it is to perform this repair. Step 5: Reassemble vacuum without testing new part first. Because it's fun removing those screws again if you discover a problem. Step 6: Not mention how much the customer will have to pay for a 6 minute repair.

Any ideas how to dismantle a VAX upright model number: U85-A3-Re? I've had to have a replacement under warranty after a washer and bolt were rattling in the guts of the hoover's motor area and I had to shake them out through the handle. All quiet on the rattle side of things but I didn't like the 'rough' start up noise. I've kept the bolt and washer back and it's ready to be ripped apart and investigated with the hope to repair - maybe? Do you know of any online sources I can download a PDF technicians repair manual

Good video, but I would recommend anyone changing the motor, to check all the airway passages for blockages and replace both filters before handing back the vacuum to the customer, and as an extra precaution strip down and clean the dust separator cyclone.

Thank you very much for this Alec, but do you know any sites in the UK that sell the motor require for Air cleaners?

Do you think the motor itself was gone as in burnt coils/static components, or could it be disintegrated or stuck brushes causing arcing and smell onto the commutator? Nice to know the motor swap is so easy and you could always check the brushes on removal of the motor to see if that was the likely issue or a real motor failure requiring a replacement motor. We have a dead one of these and so must go looking at the cause and fix. Thanks for the nice easy guide :-)

Just answered my own question having dissembled a Vax Air of ours with bad electrical smells... The motor brushes have two connections to the coils each and 3 of the 4 are crimped and the final one soldered. Does seems the motor is designed to have its brushes replaced!

How do you remove the wheels I can see two screws underneath the wheels and I need to take apart so I can fit a new casing on the bottom

Remove the centre hubs. They are probably held in with tabs like the one he undid in this video. There will be a nut beneath them.

Hi my vax is a U91-MA-B Mach Air the motor is wired direct no terminals new motor has terminals how do I know which is positive and negative on new motor
@RiffRaffMama.4 жыл бұрын
Invest in a multimeter. Especially if you're insisting on performing repairs you are way out of your depth with. If you can't tell a positive from a negative, you really probably shouldn't be performing electrical repairs.

Hello, getting most frustrated, can anyone tell me how to get the back wheels off without snapping them. I know they're supposed to come off as there is a groove on the small grey disc in the centre of each wheel. thepigglettboys how did you manage to get them off, it's been a year since your post I'm hoping you are still using KZfaq.

The "hub caps" probably snap out if you try prying them off. Then there will be a nut beneath them.
