Procedure scarred me for life as a child. My responses to it mimic sexual trauma; my interests, my emotions, how i sleep at night, what enables me to sleep soundly… all affected by this test. Hoping to get into support therapy someday because at 27 I’ve never even seen a GYNO, and this is probably why. I do not trust doctors. I do not trust nurses. When it comes to my intimate body, they will harm me…

It happened to me as well, I know exactly what you mean down down to “what enables me to sleep soundly”. Your comment made me find comfort, knowing someone else gets how scarring this was. Even typing this my heart is racing I hate thinking about it, happened to me 3x. All I have to say is this procedure should always happen sedated to children. Cruel.

I’m glad this could give you some solace ♥️ I actually didn’t accept that my trauma was real or even sexual until someone answered a question i had about it months ago. I agree, kids NEED to be sedated for this, it’s insane. And god, 3 times… i hear about people who went through it more than once and i cannot imagine. I hope you get the therapy you need, too 😞

Please protect your child from this procedure without sedation. It felt like I was raped and the consequences have been devestating.

I'm having VCUG #2 Tuesday, and I'm not looking forward to it, however It's ordered, so I need to get it done! So I WILL cheerfully go and get it done, as It is necessary!

I have to get it done and I'm not taking off my socks what do I do because I have to wear socks or I freak out will they give me socks to wear if I ask or can I bring a Clean pair of socks

@Peter Foster You are an adult. am glad you went cheerfully as you put it. But we were not given that choice when we were three years old or five years old. Yes these are necessary tests at times but the point of this video and the point of many of our comments is our trauma is valid. I hope you are well and that your kidneys are functioning perfectly.

I'm not taking my socks off because I feel the need to wear socks all the time. I freak out if I don't have socks on and my skin hurts if I don't have socks on so what do I do can I ask them for hospital socks or bring a clean pair of extra socks

Do we remove the catheter once the bladder is full for the patient to urinate on the table ?

For boys they usually go in a portable urinal. Girls pee into towels. Either way it’s humiliating and dehumanizing.

“Fun” fact: that girl has a 70% chance of suffering from symptoms identical with violent childhood sexual abuse. I hope she’s doing alright, since the odds aren’t in her favor

They will do it to my 15-day-old child, another option is possible, I am terrified of him. Update : If they did it to my baby and without being able to believe it, they did not shed a single tear, thank God, the treatment he did was so nice, the nurses trying to make him not cry so that everything was more pleasant for him, saying that while he was in the studio fell asleep, but I think it also depends on the team of people your baby is on.

am sorry.... I had this procedure as a child of 3 to the age of 16. Parents, please - do not leave your child alone and demand to be with your child. I am an adult in my 50's but I never got over this invasive procedure. I was 3. THREE years old. No sedation. No comprehension of this procedure. No parents to turn to. I was cut due to trying to thrash away from what they were doing. YES, it hurt. I remember very well. My mom said I was covered with blood after. I KNOW no one meant to hurt me, but... I was born with a pelvic kidney, and this is why I had these tests. The last time, I was 16 years of age, and they brought in student doctors. I tried to cover myself, but the radiologist techs UNCOVERED me. I was UNABLE to release the fluid due to an extreme anxiety attack. I believe that this test, and how it was handled THEN changed me as a person forever. BE WITH YOUR CHILDREN and best wishes.

I also had this procedure and to say it was scarring is saying the least my parents were in the room and somehow to me that was worse, embarrassing, idk, id love to talk with people who’ve had similar experiences because I’ve never spoke to a single sole about this once, it truly haunts me
