My father and I were Canadians in the crowd out front that day. It was simply spectacular. Arrived early and standing about 50 m back of the black gates next to Queen Victoria's statue. Unforgettable. My Dad was singing louder than I've ever heard him sing before.

RIP Dame Vera Lynn. You will be missed but your music will go on forever.

I remember VE50 in 1995 so vividly - it was huge and people were having street parties everywhere. It was extra special as so many veterans were still alive and well, as well as so many figures from WW11 such as the Queen Mum and Vera Lynn (now 101!) were still active - that made it that extra bit special.

We will never see the likes of this again. Dame Vera is the most magical performer this Country has ever known. Just watch and marvel then watch all the extraordinary performances that have gone before. There will never be another so powerful, and magical

I was there that day, I was 10 years old and it's a day I'll never ever forget. The patriotism is unreal and it certainly makes me so proud to be British ❤

Thank you for this wonderful clip. I remember watching this with my grandad who fought in the Second World War. He was in tears and laughter because we thought this was brill. I was 13 at the time he told me a lot of things about the war which he never really talked about. This brings back so many memories thank you 👍

I think unfortunately by 2045, the population in London will have a much lower ancestral connection to the British population of the 1940s. And by 2045, of those who do have an ancestral link to 1940s British population, even those who are in their 80s would have been born in 1960s . I imagine there will be events to mark the 100th anniversary, but more common in countryside towns. I think it's unlikely there would be big parties in central Birmingham or other similar cities. The way we look at the war and are taught about it will also have probably changed. Even comparing back to 1995 the narrative has gradually changed. Where now some politicians increasingly claim the war was fought as a way to free and empower the global south. Rather than to liberate the democracies of Western Europe and the occupied states of Central Europe. And prevent the establishment of an overpowering totalitarian Germanic state which would imperil our own freedoms. While in the East to crush Japan after the surprise attack on the Americans and British empire in SE Asia.

@@alexread9838 Birmingham more so than London I think. Black people live in London and they are patriotic. People who follow Islam are not at all. I am not talking about Asians as Muslims and Asian are different.

Such a petty minded woman, if you understood what this stood for then perhaps you may not have made such a idiotic and stupid comment, I was lucky enough to be there on that day, I still have my poppy that was dropped from the Lancaster,, remember the TV was not as technical advanced as of today, at lease spell Dalek correctly
