Yeah for sure, animation is a lot of work. And I cut a lot of corners here, refining the animations could take much longer. I also only rigged the main parts instead of actual joints. Maybe some day, I’ll do a full in-depth tutorial on animation, but honestly, it would be like a 7 hr class and have a retention time of 5 minutes. Lol.

Thanks! Animating in Fusion is actually pretty easy. It’s probably still easier to do small animations in AE, but I couldn’t imagine animating a very large project in AE vs Fusion. Its nice to be able to group and parent assets by just moving them around on the node panel. As the project size increases, this would get much harder in AE while in Fusion it pretty much stays the same.
@GargoylesAtWork

Indeed. That's why they pre comp every thing. Not to take anything away from AE, as I have never used it. But I agree, honesty, people havent realized how easy it is to work with large projects in Fusion and node based editing. I love how you are pushing the envelope and exposing people to what it can do.

Really cool how you have mastered this! But I must have missed something. Did you explain how to "sync" shadows so they seem more realistic? I didn't see any shadows on the completed animation, but if I wanted to have shadows convincingly follow, say, the arm movements, based on the angle of light in the scene, can I do that? It would help to more convincingly turn this into a 2.5D cartoon.
@CBSuper
@CBSuper 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, not this time. I removed all the shadows to make it easier to animate. As for 2.5d, after all the transform nodes, add a DVE node and you’ll get some good 2.5 animation, but it will make your control area a little more crowded. I have some ideas on syncing shadows, but since the XF pivot doesnt impact the flip transforms, it might require some ingenuity. I’ll look into it.

So the center of the layer and ancchor point is 2 different things in Fusion? For instance sometime I move the text layer to other side of composition, but when adding transform node later on - it doesnt appear at the center of the text layer. is there a key command to align them when adding?
@CBSuper
@CBSuper 4 жыл бұрын
The anchor is the center by default, but it can be moved independently. Text layer is a little different as it has all its own animation features so a transform node added later would default its anchor to the center of the connected node flow resolution.

Many thanks! A good starting point for me, as I'm new to fusion animations and coming from AE still have to get used to the node concept (which I think is great, once you've really got it). Not totally sure if that is correct, but I think instead of creating a new mask to hide the right arm behind the body, you could have also use the body node itself as a mask, right? Anyway very straight forward and good to follow tutorial!
@CBSuper
@CBSuper 4 жыл бұрын
Yup, you're absolutely right. I could have used the Body (shape layers) to mask out the arm and inverted the Mask input in the Merge Node. For the sake of keeping my flow clean without having extra pipes, I made a new mask since it was just one little piece, but if I need to mask out several things, it would be much more efficient to pipe the actual shape layers from the original and run it into the merge or create a new merge node prior to attaching to the BG pipeline. There is also a wireless link node that probably should have been used in this specific instance, but I'll save that for a later tutorial. Cheers!

I'm curious. I'm a teacher and I've gotten good w video but like I said below, just started w vectors and am interested in motion graphics and little animations. I don't wanna get after effects. What free program is good. I'm pretty far along w resolve - like I understand how fusion works at a complex level - so do you think I should just keep going. Or is it worth looking at another program? This would be to make little crash course videos with some vector drawings and animations alongside video.
@CBSuper
@CBSuper 4 жыл бұрын
So After Effects would probably be my choice for small 2d animations, but if you're looking for a free program, I'd stick with Fusion. You can also play around with Blender as it has some 2d animation functionality, but if you've already been learning Fusion, I'd just keep going that direction. I do plan on making more 2d animation videos in the future that break down everything step by step. This one is a little fast paced, but I think I'll start breaking up the parts into sections next time.

Do you eventually would now why there is this "automatic" curve to shape "expand" in Resolve ? And maybe a solution to that kind of problem ? Hey there! I was following along trying to animate a person running, but I got a bit stuck when I got to the legs. I made shoes for the person and because the shoe design is different colors (shoe itself, accent design and shoelaces), I wasn't able to delete the merge from the shoelaces and accent design to attach their backgrounds to the shoe's background to create an additional merge like how you did your snowman hat. Is there a limit of 2 backgrounds per merge? Wondering how I can achieve the same movement for the shoe (and I'll be combining this with the leg) when the design is more complex. Thanks!!
@CBSuper
@CBSuper 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, limit is two objects per merge. You should be able to still do it though. You just need to have the shoe laces (and any other objects) merge on top of the shoes to parent them to the shoes. Not sure if this is easy to explain, but the shoes will be the background and everything that sticks to them will be in a foreground merge. I may need to do a more complicated video on this.

@@CBSuper I managed to easily update the vectors and I just added in those separate leg joints, but I was wondering if I wanted to control the joints separately like adjust the area above the knee and then adjust the area below the knee, am I supposed to separate their XF's? When I move the Ctrl for the area above the knee it moves by itself which is good, but then when I move the Ctrl for the area below the knee, it moves that as well as the area above the knee.. I think this is because their XF's are connected but I had to connect them in order for the whole leg to appear on the screen.
@CBSuper

Yeah, it can get messy quick with trying to keep parenting and merges respective to their constraints. I would only use merges to combine visible layers to their parented objects, but then add a XF after the merge to control and move the pivot point.
