ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

Dear Swami, thank you for discourse. As a buddhist who at times struggles with terminology whose ability to retain and remember is fragile, l am very grateful to youtube and your community for relaying these teachings, enabling me to digest them over and over again. One day I hope to visit your centre and meet you personally. I find it a struggle to accept Brahman as unchanging, my gut feeling says not true, just as when l was a child and was told that Jesus was the only way, absolutely not so !! l find Brahman more as a : CONSTANT: not unchanging. An ever present changing reality, this is much easier for myself to accept and understand . Anyway a deep bow of gratitude for you and your community's work and service. I look forward to more teachings.

The substratum, “reality “ Life, is not definable nor unchanging, only constant. The apparent is rooted in the real, from where else can seeds of the ground of being arise!!? Maya is the season of change and impermanence, Maya is Buddha Nature/life’s dream, the dreamer is Brahman. Brahman/God/Buddha Nature whatever name "life" is given, is dreaming. Those natures contain the seeds of anger, joy, compassion, hate and love, your nature is all this. When you awake from ignorance then the apparent can choose, do I personify peace of mind, or remain in suffering . By Brahmans grace we know and choose peace of mind, and hence fall out of suffering.

Absolutely Brilliant! I began reading the Real and the Apparent Man, but couldn't comprehend it at first. There's no better explanation than this and can't emphasize enough that Swamiji Sarvapriyananda explained these highly profound concepts with so much simplicity and in lucid language. A true example of excellence🙏

One of your best talks Swamiji...I would love to hear more of your Buddhism studies while at Harvard and compare / contrast with Advaita. The two philosophies are so similar that I have a hard time differentiating them. They both emphasize that the self has no independent existence apart from awareness itself.

His belief in ' advaitism' is so natural and strong that you are ever attracted to it ! His knowledge and awareness of modern science , philosophy, psychology , theology etc is amazing ! His spending time in places like Harvard , Southern California and New York, the most happening and dynAmic places of the world has added new dimensions to his intellect and persona !! Once again brilliant talk from Sarvapryananda. He does not own qutations but ackniwledges them - a rare thing As myself a translator of Paul carus " The Gospel of Buddha" Into Tamil my understsnding1) Buddha when said " No Atman " he only meant mind is mistaken for Atman by Vedantins. When he talked of Sunya he Prerhaps meant Self as Vedantins meant. In one of his talks Buddha said " Yes there is Nirvana which is liberation .Otherwise no consolation for us "This is nothing but Self the unseen. Yes Buddha too talked of rope and serpant.simile as Maya. ang Satya(. as " "sammuti Satya" and "Paramartha Satya") Yes even " Hitler is also expression of Life' U G. Krushnamurti( a modern Buddha) claimed. ( whom I personally heard) Let us not forget Sri Ramana who approved of Buddha ( Sri Ramakrishna too) Sages spoke as per their background and hence expressions varied. Sages never spoke untruths!
