Sadly, most Tamilians of the new age, like me will not understand the lyrics fully as it is in classical Tamil. Hope one day I will find time to learn them. There are so many English words mixed in every sentence we speak today, which is a very grave situation for any language. Gratitude to those who learn their native language to its depth and retain its strength and power of it for the next generation to learn from, including directors who take it up. Such songs give continuous goosebumps and tears, which I am sure is true for every Indian when they listen to a classical language song portraying patriotism in their mother tongue.

@@cymaticchaos2425 the sad part is that tamilians think that "tamil" only means a "language". what today's tamilians do not understand is that language is only a small part of the word "tamil". tamil means the temples we have, tamil means the culture people wear, tamil means the food culture we have,tamil means the spiritual ways through which we connect to the divine, tamil means our rituals/sanskrit mantras though which we connect to the divine, tamil means the various festivals we celebrate. today when a temple of shiva in tamilnadu is broken, no tamilian shows any retaliation for it. only the native villagers cry in remorse but no action taken by the educated modern tamilians.

The entire song is amazing.. but some high points: 1:10 - 1:20 Vendha raja raja... ending with Shankar mahadevan's long sustain is really royal 1:45 - 1:58 The sitar, kalangal word and the strings in the background are too good 2:03 - Veena and sarangi entry 2:16 - this veena phrase repeated thrice is just 💜 2:25 is just magical.. it is same chords with strings that runs in the background throughout the female portions and then KS Chitra magical entry at 2:34 3:00 - integration of a scene from the novel but in a completely different context for romance 3:10 - you know something big is coming right from here in this song - the strings are slowly adding to the buildup 3:11 - Water and fire; Vaanadhi and AMV - symbolism 3:34 - lyrics in this part are out of the world 3:42 - the use of the trumpet for edhirigal uthiram is just perfect, one of my favourite parts of the song both musically and lyrically 3:54 - the variation in sithariodum.. absolutely wonderful to listen to here 4:27 - yes both singers are singing here.. but Chithra's bass voice has something magical.. you can hear her separately and it makes it just so good. 4:40 - the buildup to this point is too good.. it's so good that you want to listen to the whole song to reach this part which makes it even better 4:49 - layered with harmonised chorus 4:57 -Shankar mahadevan puts so much power to this added with those background bass and strings.. layering peaked here

In my opinion there is high chance that we can get another composer like Anirudh......But it is very low chance that next generation can see musician like ARR who is highly gifted to compose in any genre - Classical, Rajasthani, folk, western, jazz etc. by continosuly learning. Since our generation want to get max rewards for least effort and time, so originaility gets reduced.

HI Brother, i am an ardent fan of ARR as well... but truly speaking post 2000 ARR's all songs were shit and not so melody except few or very few movies like VVT, Endiran for example... but in this movie ARR is really amazing... he conqured all pre 2000 music... but ARR was a magical touch since Roja 1992 to 2000 Jodi and Kandukonden Kandukonden... after that it was shit...as i said... other than ARR also many Music directors are upcoming now with super duper melodies...

Another beautiful composition from ARR. Kudos to lyricist Ilango Krishnan who has written the whole song in three word meter (e.g. Veera Raja Veera) but preserving the context and meaning effectively. Not very easy to do unless having a very good grasp of classical tamil and know which words to use where according to the flow of the song. Very Well done.

This song embodies so many things Things that come to my mind are: 1. The greatness of Chozha rulers Especially Arunmozhi (Raja Raja chozhan) 2. People's joy of having him as their king. 3. Vaanathi's longing for him and his subtle love for her in return. They were the most loved and powerful yet successful real king and queen who ruled Tamil Nadu prosperously for a very long time. Never know Tamil was this much beautiful. I watched Malayalam dubbed version but thankfully they didn't translate this song. Tamil enhances the beauty of the song.Jayam Ravi's elegance makes me watching it again and again. He looks like our Mammookka. Atlast found somebody with similar looks more than Dulquer and his cousin.

So there is no surprise that any musician or composer could use this raaga for the tune… but finally who gives the best output of this raaga will be the outstanding composition… And till date A.R. This song is probably one of the most complex and most beautiful compositions of ARR. you need to listen to it at least 3 to 4 times to understand all the transformations. on top of that Chitraji and Shankar Mahadevan singing it is such a treat to ears! mesmerizing!

AND ON TOP OF IT EVEN THE ORIGINAL COMPOSER OF THIS RAAGA WOULD NOT HAVE CREATED THIS KIND OF COMPOSITION …… This work of Rahman is absolutely amazing and brilliant 😊

@@godwinsamstephen it's plagiarised from a very specific composition, not a generic raaga. And no credit has still been given by name to the original composer. It's like using a Thyagaraja composition and calling it your own. No matter how you slice and dice it, it's theft. And take away the dhrupad from this, there's nothing left.
