Going forwards I think that speaking as a non vegan that it would be interesting to have foods like this introduced to the market to help with the meat trade. I honestly won't give up meat, however I would reduce my intake anyway possible, as I can get protein from plants and nuts and being a vegetarian for an entire week, I wasn't bothered about not eating meat too much.

I think, this is the intermediate strategy which we would need (plus impossible burgers - please: worldwide), vegan pulled pork (jackfruit) etc. The strategy that eating meat is bad (for you, for the planet, for the animals) doesn’t really work, and is also pretty inconsistent (e.g. eating one specific fish, is usually bad, because of overfishing and all the “by-catch” - but eating invasive species and/or by-catch fish, would make it more sustainable). However creating vegan comfort food converts people to eat more sustainable without being preachy and all. Being a meat eater, I do totally support that. Personally I think, that most of us don’t need to be vegan - but eat more vegetarian or vegan - and can have a good roast on Sunday (like our forefathers). The real issue is, that we really don’t value the meat, dairy etc, for what it is. It become more and more industrialized and that is inhumane and unsustainable.

Even though I am an avid meat eater, I would like some alternatives like this or even lab grown meat.

Best food I've ever eaten was Vegan. My aunt was renting to this Indian couple. Their mother came over to take care of her daughter as she was about to have a baby. Anyways, the mother who had to be around 60ish years old, made some incredible vegan dishes. I have said this since the start. If all Vegan foods tasted like that food? I could easily become a Vegan and not care about missing meat.

For anyone who suspects it would be healthier - NO! Fish is an excellent, lean protein source, it's the oil and batter that makes fish and chips unhealthy, not the fish.

If you wanted to try and make this, Banana flower would probably be hard to get most places in Uk. You can substitute with large oyster mushrooms which actually have a natural fishy taste!

I man I know has had a vegan fish and chip van called Battered and did it outside my local pub a couple of years ago. The texture was like fish and let’s face it the salt and vinegar flavours fish and chips so could probably get by being a vegan. Although when I was a kid the family had spaghetti bolognese and probably inspired by watching too much Blue Peter decided I was going to become a vegetarian, so I just had wait for it.......plain pasta. Surprisingly I was back eating meat the next day.

If there is a market for the product then, not a problem. but you cant call it fish when it not. I would suspect umbridge from other traditional fish and chip shops. A shop in Yorkshire call it something like viz and chips. I would suspect that a taster not aged between 20-30 would have another take on eating the alleged fish?

I’m a vegan and I tried it yesterday. It was okay, but I wouldn’t have it again. The stringy texture and vague banana taste wasn’t particularly pleasant, but I’m glad I gave it a go. Not for me.

There's a real identity crisis for these wonderful vegetables when chicken dishes get to be called chicken, and fish dishes get to be called fish, but dishes with a vegetable as the main ingredient are being called fake meat :|... Come to South East Asia and experience banana flower for what it is, people. It's a delicacy and there are tons of dishes that bring out the full flavor profile of it rather than calling it another 'vegan '.
