How To Fix a Honda Door That's Stuck

If your door won’t unlock on your Honda CRV or Honda Cvic 1998,1999,2000,2001 then a common problem is a faulty spring. This video shows you how to replace this spring the easy way.
Part number of spring I used is E0240-026-1000-S. You can buy it from here:

I couldn't find this spring in the US, but I did not call the manufacturer and ask if they supply any retailers. After some looking around, I found this set at Home Depot. www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-Spring-Assortment-Kit-84-Pack-13554/203133714 I haven't tried one yet, but there are ones similar to your spring in the box. Not all are stainless steel though.

That's great that you managed to find some springs that you think will fit. In any case if you look at the UK link I posted, it has all the specifications and a CAD diagram of the spring. If you send this to any spring seller, they will easily source you a spring. One benefit with stainless steel is you don't need to fit a sheath around the spring. Good luck with the job

You did a great job with the video. I suspect my lock is broken because I allowed someone to unlock that door without a key a year or so ago....with that long shimmy tool that goes though the window slot.

@Vegan Dog. My 1998 Honda Accord's front drivers door inside & out handles seem to move all the way up. I can hear the Actuator working. Since I have the door panel out, do you know where I can slide a narrow screwdriver into the opener & pry it open?

Any idea about rear door on honda hrv 2001 back door not open from inside or outside have door panel off hit unlock on fob cable moves makes noise, not unlock, spotted child lock white plastic bit on lock position barley get screwdriver to it but not move up freely like on opposite working rear door, any ideas please?

Hey, I have 2010 Honda Fit/Jazz and the issue is that when I put key into passenger door to unlock, the key is going to the left, but feels like it is a bit spring loaded and doesn't feel right. The door doesn't unlock and to be able to remove the key, I have to force it and keep positioning it straight as it wants to tilt left. When I use main lock/unlock switch on the driver's door and try to unlock, the passenger door knob moves to unlock position and then goes back to lock. Other doors working as expected. I don't know if this is a mechanical lock is not working or something else. Any idea?

take the door card off and have a look. It sounds like something has jammed.

I should have done a video on that part as well! From the inside remove the door handle, window switches / winding handle. Then leaver the door card up (it may flex a bit) I was then able to get a long pick to the innards of the door lock and open the lock. It was tricky to do. Shame I did not have the camera rolling when I did it.

My civic '96 won't unlock, if I turn the key, but only sometimes. It seems, that something is "clogged", because internal "door lock switch" moves only a little bit. Did you have the same problems, or you was your issue permanent ? Thanks Andrej

So if the spring is the issue you don't need to bother trying to pick the latch open? Just replace the spring? Is there a part number? I've yet to open my panel. I ordered a lock assembly cause I thought I'd need one. Figured it wouldn't do me any good to open the door if I couldn't fix it.

If it is the spring, you will still have to remove the door card so you can access the spring. Honda don't sell the spring separately, but part number E0240-026-1000-S from Associated Spring Raymond is a perfect replacement. It only cost me a few pounds to buy and is better than the original Honda spring, as it is stainless steel, therefore there is no need to fit a protective sheath round the spring. Thanks for the info, but do I need to get the door open? It's broken shut. Can I just take the door panel off and replace the spring, and then use the handle to open the door? I've seen the videos of people raking the door lock assembly. Seems to be difficult to pull off.

It will make your life easier if you can open the door, as the space will be very tight in the car with the door closed. But it is technically possible to replace the spring without opening the door.

I got it open using the pick method. I don't see a spring or place for one. It's a 98 Civic. I bought the lock assembly though, so I'll have to figure out how to put that in.

does this work for 94-97 accord? it wont open from the inside.. i have to either have someone open the door from the outside for me or i have to lower the window down and reach around from the outside

@@VeganDogyeah i was freaking out lol . cars old but to me its a gem so anything that happens it hurts me 🤣 .. interior is spotless got it from a 1 owner and its got over 250k miles not a single dent . so i plan on preserving it for as long as ive got it

Sup vegan dog! 1997 Civic hatch with inside door lock switch wont lock, meaning I can't lock the door from the inside but I can use the key to lock and unlock
