Thank you for taking the time to show that, you covered in minutes what a class would have taken hours to go over. Excellent information and just another reminder that I have to buy a breakout box.

Absolutely a perfect topic of showing patterns of shorts to ground, powers,and com lines to com lines. I see new level auto has a interest in your channel. You guys are top notch.

Instead of using a jumper wire to do these shorting tests, use a test light its added insurance that nothing gets the smoke left out. Especially if you are experimenting on a customers car. The last thing you want to tell someone that came in for brake pads is, oh by the way you need a ECM cause I used your car as a guinea pig and fried it.. Lol Great job Justin

Any other videos that start earlier and explain some of the terminology used such as can high, fault tolerant, non fault tolerant, etc... Always willing to learn. Only thing I hate is I'm a hands on person.

This is good info, especially whe you point out the class 2 star system splice pack, makes it easier to pin point who's not communicating through the network.

Very important to understand how they fail ! Awesome job. Will we be seeing some of the other types as well ?

Trained by Techs Channel Flex Ray , PCI bus , Lin or any single wire Lan. Might be nice for those that havent seen it yet. CAN running in single wire mode and possibly an option to show what it looks like when a module is not fully powered up and how it affects the data line. Just a few thoughts 😁

@@NewLevelAuto Now I am very curious about how these faults would appear, especially when a module isn't fully powered up!

Is there a reason why you did not apply power or ground to the CAN network at the break out box instead of at the PCM? That would eliminate using the wrong wire at the PCM, no?

Hi Sir, Please one particular question. Does the Hantek model 1008 8 ch Automotive Diagnostic Oscilloscope fits OK for measuring these types of communications signals...??? Thanks you sir. Best regards.
@NewLevelAuto

Yes the Hantek is good enough to capture these signals

what is the breakout box for? isn't it just as effective to back probe the dlc without spending $$ on a box ?
@TrainedbyTechs
@TrainedbyTechs 6 жыл бұрын
Dave Murdock the breakout allows for a quick easy access to the dlc without the worry of poor connection, backprobes falling out, shorting circuits, damaging the dlc pins etc. It has led lights on it showing you instant network activity as well. It's not necessary but definitely a handy tool to have.

Hi Justin !!...Super video !!...I'd like to do an instructional video like this for my C5 Corvette Forum members. I'm assuming you're back probing the serial data line on whichever module you want to take down for testing...C5's have the class 2 data line with the splice packs like in your GM section...how can a DIY'er troubleshoot with just a DVOM ??...I really think you can't. You definitely can't see the 0-7 volt square wave...only with a DSO...what about with a scan tool ??...and I guess it would have to be one that can communicate with all the modules !!...how do you troubleshoot with just say only a scan tool...I have a Pico-scope and a CAN test box so that wouldn't help 99.9% of forum members...I watched a video last night on how to use a scan tool but I couldn't get it to work...hooked up my Autel and removed the comb then jumpered the purple signal wire to a module but I couldn't communicate with it...any help ??....THANKS !!

What happens if for what ever reason when doing the ohms resistor ck you either have more or less resistance between pin six and fourteen what would you look for?
@NewLevelAuto
@NewLevelAuto 2 жыл бұрын
That would depend on how high the resistance reading is.
