A lot of folks don’t know but for some reason vehicle voltron aired first in some areas and lion aired first in others. That’s why we have this dividing line of who likes what. Lol. Which ever one you saw first is the one you probably loved.

I remember seeing vehicle Voltron first in my area, then one week, suddenly it was the Lions. I was pissed and just wanted my vehicle team back, but Lion Voltron grew on me after giving it a chance.

@@Pernection But if you compare notes, you'll see that Vehicle Voltron kept that essence for mature audiences. As for Lion Voltron seems like a tv show for Kids. Lion force Voltron has the dark magic, witches and spiritual themes included. Something I don't think Vehicle Voltron has. Reason why I love it even more.

I liked both but the problem was that the lions disappeared and this version was thrown at us out of nowhere the next season without any explanation.

@@theslayerofsimps8100 not originally, World Events Productions took different animated series, and created Voltron from that, which is why unreleated Hyaku Jūō Goraion and Kikō Kantai Dairagā Fifutīn were both called "Voltron" in the West.

@@jackson5116 I know all I'm saying though is that you're forgetting Voltron 2 aka albegas When the toys got imported there where three different Voltron Voltron 1 was vehicle Voltron otherwise known as dairugger 15 Voltron 2 was gladiator Voltron aka albegas And Voltron 3 is what most people think of when they hear Voltron but is also known as go-lion , Although like you said dairugger and go-lion got there toys and shows imported albegas never did it only ever got the main robot All I was trying to bring up was gladiator Voltron because of how obscure he is if you haven't heard of it before id highly recommend looking into him because it's actually quite interesting

There was a crossover special, in which both vehicle and lion force Voltrons fought side by side. I think it only aired once, but you might find it here on youtube. It's called "Volttron: Fleet of Doom."

@@ShogunX11 Yeah, the Lions Voltron made for a bit clunkier robot than the other team (though both robots were MILES AHEAD of Tranzor Z, although that may not be quite fair because by the time Voltron came along the art of giant-robot combat action had advanced tremendously since the pioneering days of Manzinger Z or Tetsujin 28-go).

TL;DR As a small kid in early 90s, I thought this was og Voltron; In early 90s, right after comunism in Poland ended I was a lil kid (I was born in 86), but I still remember, that video rentals were "spawning" everywhere. We used to rent a lot of movies and my older bro picked ups some cartoons. Among them, probably my first anime (excluding abysmal italian dub of Yattaman that was on tv back then): General Daimos and random episodes of Vehicle Voltron. I don't remember Daimos at all, but I still remember air, ground and water teams, their commanders, venusian frigates and "I'll form THE head". Few years later, when Sailor Moon and Dragonball brought anime to polish mainstream (kickstarting, what many think was golden age of anime in polish tv) Voltron finally made into one of the channels. I was suprised that it was called the same, but there were lions, not a swarm of vehicles to create Voltron. I learned, that there was never anime called Voltron. It was two shows, patchworked by muricans into one show, with lion voltron being first and vehicle being second. I still think that second one was better. Some time ago, I've watched 2 first seasons of rebooted Voltron on polish netflix. Was even kind of into it, but had to wait entire year for new seasons. When they finally hit, I kind of lost interest already and moved to another show. Maybe it's for the best, as I've heard it went downwards in latter seasons with tumblr infecting it.

It was mid to late 80s my parents actually bought us some Voltron figures. My brother got the Lion and i got the one with the wierd circle around his head..i was pissed.

The problem that most people had was the lion team disappeared without any explanation and the vehicle team appeared both versions are great but it was excellent when they bought them together instead of keeping them separate.

I think this happened to a lot of cartoons in the 80's and i hated that since there was no explanation, no send off, nothing just a new show here replacing the one you loved because execs figured it was not profitable anymore and then they straight out abandoned franchises in what seemed the middle of unfinished plots.

Why did the air team have to separate? They pretty much had the head, upper arms and torso of Voltron already assembled. Just that red ship (that was pretty much useless as a part of Voltron) needed to change position.

It was adapted from Japanese anime shows, and eventually the Lion one ran out of episodes to adapt so they had to switch to a different show. The show the Lion one was created from, Golion only had 52 episodes.

Zyuranger, on which Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is based, did come after the Japanese cartoons that were adapted into Voltron, but since both products were based upon the Super Sentai concept introduced by Japanese production company Toei in 1975 (who also produced Zyurangers, Beast King GoLion, and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV) technically neither can be considered a "rip off" of the other.

This mech will and always be Dairugger for me, not because it is not a good show, the og anime is very good but because I can not accept the idea that they used the same name and intro again, very very lazy from their part. One way that they could make it work even better is if they said that they build the robot just in case they need to fight the Lion Voltron or in case Voltron was defeated(as it was for a short time with the Comet) and they could though another name, Dairtron, Startron,Cartron hell, they could have kept the original name, that way no kid would be confused and it could sell as a part of the Voltron Mythos and be its own thing as well.

In the Voltron Mythos, Galaxy Garrison created Vehicle Voltron to defend the solar system from the 2nd wave of Drules since the original Lion Voltron was fighting the 1st wave far out on Arus

It was based on the Japanese series, "Dairugger Armored Fleet XV". The large number was to both cover region (Sea, air, land) along with reflecting rugby (15 players on a sports union team)

Instead of reboot, consider watching the original Japanese material, "Dairugger Armored Fleet XV". 'Voltron' was heavily edited for an American children's audience. The base series had greater emotional impact due to death and conclusive ending that were whitewashed in the US

If Vehicle Voltron hadn't flopped, there would have been a third Voltron. The Lion Voltron was from the far universe and Vehicle Voltron was from the near universe. The third Voltron was supposed to have been from the mid universe.

Because it was adapted from two entirely seperate anime shows, Golion and Dairugger XV. Both of them on their own only had about 50 episodes which wasn't enough for syndication. So they had to combine the two shows.

Absolutely correct. I found it hard to follow. I didn't even know about it until one Saturday night I stayed up late and seen it on KPLR channel 11 in St Louis and was like WTF. I called a friend the next day and told him about it and he called me a liar. Lol

This is original. Both the vehicles one and the lions one ran during the same period. Some days they'd play the lions one. On other days they'd play the vehicles one. This was done because there wasn't enough content of the lions cartoon to make 65 episodes that you needed to have a cartoon run in syndication. So they merged two separate cartoons into one. But if you mean the vehicles one wasn't as good as lions I agree completely. As a kid I hated it when the vehicles one was on.

+Trey Smith I agree lions one was better. There was going to be a 3rd voltron, another anime cartoon that had nothing to do with the other two in Japan but story wise would have had it in the same voltron universe. but due to the lion's being so popular and the vehicles not being popular they never made that cartoon he in the US. but matchbox still made the toys to it.

Not to me. I found it the other way around. I liked the Vehicle Voltron a lot more than the lions one.
