So if smoke conditions make visibility difficult, are we gonna use the wall to follow until we reach the door so we don’t get lost/disoriented the middle of a room?

VES is most applicable in bedrooms in a residential setting, even apartments. Most of these rooms are limited in size and you shouldn't become lost in a 12x12(at most) room. Also a tip is that most rooms have the door across from the windows so shoot straight and try that wall first. Traditional search techniques of "oriented search" taught in academies mislead new firemen that you'll get lost easily and must crawl like a baby on all fours in a 1,000 sq ft house when in actuality anyone on the job for a few months knows different. Just use common sense and nobody knows your orientation and safety like you in the end!

@@cjgardin Thank you for helping me understand. I just graduated the fire academy a couple weeks ago so that’s kinda how they taught us but I know it’s completely different in the field.

@@brettmcdermott0524 you're welcome, never stop Learning. Don't let someone dissuade you from doing something the way you're comfortable or most efficient just because it's "unsafe" in their eyes

Do you know why you don't see videos on putting out fires? They are too boring. Every training video shows how to prolong the fun, not end it.

Please share your knowledge. Do you have any videos from your department?

@@sheckieshpilka Go watch all the videos from UL and ISFSI. They are 95% correct. And No, they aren't my heroes, and I don't just Follow them because they are famous. I have evaluated what they have said, and they are correct. If you LISTEN AND THINK about what UL says about Vertical Ventilation, you will see that they think it is ridiculous. ISFSI is a firm believer in suppression before Search and Rescue. kzfaq.info/sun/PLkp0E1ao1XEzg384QZ4ovMA_6P7gCY3nJ kzfaq.info/sun/PLkp0E1ao1XExrkK2Zr8rjyr-Y0eR9pYo_
