That makes me VERY sad. I grew up believing that people who got picked on at school became more sensitive as a result of how they were treated, to the point that they developed Jesus-like levels of kindness. Then Columbine and the other school shootings of the '90s happened, and it was a real gut punch for me to learn that these people could be even worse than those who had tormented them. It even scared me a bit, because I myself had gotten picked on at school, and I find myself wondering if I, too, was a ticking time bomb. I never thought of girls as either bullies or nerds, though. I saw them as pretty much all alike, and pretty harmless: silly, selfish, lazy, greedy Valley-girl types who could be catty to each other but never caused any real damage. Then I found out that girls could be just as nasty as boys, even if they weren't "girlbosses."

This show is a great example of exactly where human greed and behavior comes from. It is not based of race, gender nor country. It is from how you were raised. Mindy was raised as a pampered rich girl who never worked a day in her life, got a PHD in… “playwriting,” and has only ever been relevant as an annoying side character on a popular show, and now this. Perhaps, it is not the stigmas we have against one another holding us back, but rather the industry’s helpless need to push these differences on us to try and keep us separated on viewpoints alone. I say we should be better than they think of us. We won’t fall for this anymore, and we demand some *GODDANG QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT*

(each one has their own insecurities like Fred thinking people only like him beacuse hes hot and has money, Velma thinking that she will never be good enough for her parents and is struggling with her sexuality, Shaggy dealing with paranoia and is contently scared after seeing a tragic death of a parent as such suffers from PTSD, and Daf dealing with her body dysmorphia. For true Updated classic of A Scooby doo series, May I suggest: Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated. It has 2 seasons and 26 episodes in each season. Overall it has a mature tone(in the sense that there are threats that feel threatening) but still stays true to the heart of Scooby doo. Plus almost all the characters go through character growth. With Fred and Velma going through the most. Each season has an over arching mystery that is slowly plays out in the background. While still Have the weekly villain, the overarching story slowly starts to come through.

I have a dream. In it Velma is in her high school going to class when a boom tube suddenly appears. Out steps Darkseid."I may be an evil villain from the DC Universe. But there are some evils even I can't stand,". Darkseid uses his eye beam

Do these idiots not realize by now that what they put in these shows actually exposes what goes on in their minds and from what I've heard about the Velma series it gives me an idea of Mindy Kaling's psychotic mind.Mindy Kaling do you even realize that what you write and draw into this make believe Velma series is exposing your mind and what goes on in your head keep it up

The silver lining in all this is that Velma has single-handedly united all factions of the internet into hating it. Someone said it not me, “ Americans have never been this United on anything since Pearl Harbor.” 😅

10:17 the thing that really pisses me off is that they had the audacity to try to say that they were inspired by into the spider verse. If any of them actually watched that movie they would have known that Miles is NOT a race bent Peter Parker. Miles is his own character, with his own backstory, his own struggles, his own NAME, and his own character journey and development. All well made and handled with mature care. Miles isn’t Peter Parker, he is Miles Morales. He is his own Spider-Man. Self insert Velma is a shitty knock off of the actual Velma. She has 0 likability. 0 care for her character, 0 effort into doing anything but project insecurity. In all, basic trash. She reminds of the Mc from that awful “I’m not starfire” comic from a while ago.

I feel like someone watched Harley Quin and wanted to recreate that success, let's take another random female side character, make a show around her, and make it an adult comedy.

Well said. I hate that the first reaction people tend to have when someone doesn't like a show that prominently features female leads, LGBTQ representation, or non-white characters (whether race swapped or not) is how you must be sexist or racist. It's just a horrible way to try and defend bad writing, a bad premise, etc. I don't really know Mindy as a person but if Velma truly is intended as a self insert, it doesn't paint a very flattering picture of who she is.

I mean there are a lot of people that are just being blatantly bigoted in their reviews. Obviously not every review is, but when you have people spending a majority of their time complaining about the race and not everything else, you start to wonder what this person prioritizes in a show. I have no doubts that there is a fuck ton of racism towards this show, mostly because I've seen a lot of it. Does that mean even most of the reviews are racist? No, just that there sure are a lot of them.
