Holy shit, that court scene with Fred was literally the exact same "joke" from She-Hulk. "The idiot man is exonerated by having the female protag describe all of his humiliating flaws to everyone". Is that the kind of thing these writers spend their time fantasizing about?

A KZfaqr named Jamie De Jonge has made two storyboard shorts showing how they'd have done scenes in Velma. In them, Velma is not obnoxiously arrogant, and Fred is a nice guy who's a bit oblivious. Considering I can't even sit through videos showing clips of Velma without needing to take 10 second breaks from it, this rewrite is 1000% superior.

Hollywood writing is no longer about story telling it's about activism and writers letting their personal insecurities out. Also sometimes their writing leaves you wondering whether they've had any normal human interaction ever in their life. They really need to get outside of that Hollywood bubble sometime. And seriously Mindy, how she keeps getting a job is baffling.

One of the most obvious changes that has happened to Hollywood over time is the focus of the creators there. It used to be all about the audience, and what they want to see. They understood that a satisfied audience is a profitable audience, so they did everything they could to make us happy. They left themselves behind, and transformed into a new person on screen. But now, its all about ME ME ME. They don't make movies or shows to satisfy their audience anymore. They do it to satisfy their own egos. Actors no longer leave themselves behind, and become another person for their role. They simply put on the clothes of the character, and then continue to act like themselves. Writers no longer try to create heroes that inspire them to become better people. They simply put clones of themselves and their friends into every good guy slot, and caricatures of the people they hate into the bad guy slots. And, of course, they all take every chance they get to scream their superior morals at anyone why will listen. Ego has completely taken over, and its destroying our entertainment and culture.

Shows like this are not made to be "enjoyed". Their purpose is not to "entertain" you, as their predecessors were. These shows are made to be spoken about, good OR bad. Thanks to social media, all publicity is good publicity. They make these shows to evoke rage and disgust in people, so that they can flock to social media after watching it and start talking about it. Idiots like Mindy Kaling are just the pawns of the people who pump money into it. They know it will bomb, but it'll grab so many people's attention, and in todays world, attention is money.

This show only cemented my love even more for the live action Scooby Doo movies of the early 2000s. The second one alone is honestly one of the best iterations of the gang ever put on a screen. The cast, monsters, villain and character arcs in that movie all make sense and feel authentic. Fred for example actually struggles being the leader in the film and Daphne struggles with feeling like all she is in the film is a “pretty face”. Both Fred and Daphne admit to each other how they each feel afraid and express how it is okay to be afraid because that is what makes them human. Not only does that make the gang feel more relatable to the audience, but creates character growth at the same time.

No joke, when I saw clips of this show, I actually got pissed. Scooby Doo has been with me ever since Pre-K, when the teacher would put on episodes for us to watch. And ever since I've kept up with each new series (movies have been kind of off and on). And seeing how much they bastardized the characters felt not like a slap to the face, but a boot to the skull. You know what? Scoob may have been out there for a Scooby Doo movie, but at least it kept the characters consistent with how they were in the past, for the most part. In fact, after watching those clips I booted up that movie just to wash my eyes out.

How in the world the writers thought Fred was an egotistical leader who takes all credit is beyond me.

@Faclonlibrary This is the most braindead response, lol. He drives the van because it's his f@#$ing van. He owns the van because he's pretty well off. He tends to lead the group, not only because he provides resources (like the van), but because he has intellect almost as good as Velmas, and people skills almost as good as Shaggy or Daphne, and generally, jacks of all trades tend to make the best leaders (speaking as someone who has suffered through many sh@t leaders and a handful of rare great leaders in the USAF). Wtf even is your argument here? That because he drives the van, he's the leader of the group, and leaders are inherently egotistical? Bad leaders certainly are, and there's plenty of those to go around. Good leaders ditch egotism in favor of mentorship, and deference to a subordinates skillset, which Fred does CONSTANTLY. Despite all that, wanna know why he drives the van? Because it's his f@#$ing van. I got my own mystery wagon IRL, lol. It's an L300 cabover van I imported from Japan through the military (meaning it's somewhat irreplacable at the price I originally got it for). Wanna know what I'm not doing? Letting others drive it. Putting others on my insurance for it. It's my van, I paid it off, and it's a rare import, I think that's fair. I've also got my own Shaggy, lol. I'm sure as sh@t not letting my stoner friend John drive it. I love the guy to death, he's really smart on a lot of topics, we go camping a lot, and I fully intend on taking him on all manner of offroad adventures when my van build is done... But he's also high 24/7, doesnt have car insurance, and has a driving record so bad, I'm surprised the state hasnt permanently revoked his license. Doesnt mean I'm a d@ck to him, I've helped him rebuild parts of his ratty old car, both financially, and with my mechanical experience from working on jet engines. Even helped him camperize it to save on rent when he was struggling. And he's taught me a lot about woodworking in return. Literally, what argument are you trying to make? I'm basically LITERALLY in Fred's position, and I dont want my friends driving my van when we go out on adventures (cept if it's some weird emergency). Has nothing to do with egotism, and everything to do with the fact that if anybody's going to destroy MY vehicle, it's going to be ME, and I think that's fair, given I'm the only one who has any money in it. It's fair to them too, because it protects them from the liability of wrecking an expensive vehicle.

Like yeah, he should've figured the cutting thing on his own, and I hate that's the only reason he's found innocent. His parents coddled him and spoiled him, but they aren't affected, it's Fred. Fred gets humiliated and constantly bodyshamed and he's only 15-17. That's honestly disgusting.

Mindy Kaling's c.v.: Father is a well-known architect, mother was a successful doctor Grew up in the rich area of Cambridge, Massachusetts Graduate Darmouth College (Ivy League) with a degree in playwriting (they have degrees in that?) Immediately went to work in show business--never waitressed, never did housekeeping, never did an honest day's work in her life, just went from a rich suburb to a rich kids' school to a rich kids' idea of a job And she can't write characters that are real, funny, and relatable? Who could have seen that coming?

Yea they have degrees in playwriting. Because not everyone can do it, and you need to learn how to. Learning the structure of how plays work, though, doesn’t give you the creative know-how to actually write your own compelling works. Likely it wasn’t a cut program and she wasn’t a standout in any of her classes.

As an LGBT person, I genuinely hate when creators have to rewrite already established and popular characters instead of creating new shows and characters. Not only is it insanely lazy and bad writing, it's unnecessarily preachy and takes away the nostalgia and enjoyment of what these shows once were. Not everything has to have every single minority shoehorned in for virtue-signalling tokenism. Scooby Doo was literally never problematic or outdated anyway. If Mindy Kaling actually cared about minorities, then she would create a new show to give us our own representation instead of tacking us on to old characters because wokeism.

@lordphill807

That's exactly how I feel about wheel of time. The writers despised the beliefs that Jordan wove into his literature and they wrote the show accordingly. From the moment they did interviews and announced castings, it was clear as day. They were actively twisting the worldbuilding, cultures, characterization, romance, magic and history because it didn't fit with their political opinions. Jordan was incredibly meticulous with his details, everything was clear as day, yet they made little if any effort to be faithful, instead gaslighting any criticism. They took a beloved epic fantasy series and corrupted it, all because this fictional world didn't perfectly align with their modern day progressive political values. The books are a lovely experience of escapism that anyone could enjoy, and what we got from Amazon was another culture war battleground. All because the writers were utterly incapable of keeping it in their pants politically. I can't think of anything more tarnished by woke garbage than wheel of time. It is a textbook example of the cancer that permeates so much entertainment. God of War has the same showrunner, so I can imagine how that show will end up.

Velma (the show, not the original charatcer) wants to be Daria without realizing why the character actually works. Creating a misanthropic pessimist takes a level of care and skill which modern writers who engage in vanity projects like this simply don’t have. We’re watching the bullied kids in school 20 years ago write fiction in the present.

On the point of Rings of Power....the original LOTR already had strong female characters who were respected and powerful in their own right. Galadriel held power not as a warrior, but a mighty ruler, and she wasn't flawless either, she was tempted by the power of the ring (in one of the most terrifying scenes ever seen on film, no less). Arwen was instrumental to the success of the Fellowship, as her knowledge of elven magics saved the life of Frodo, and she was a capable fighter in her own right. She also made the conscious choice to sacrifice her own immortality to stay with the man she loved, and in the process united men and elves as a just and noble queen. Funny thing is I remember a paraplegic spiderman in a VR chat skit by youtubers. They really are creativity bankrupt at this point.

I said it once and I'll say it again: HBO Velma embodies everything that's wrong with modern media these days and how the lack of love behind the creative process results in a lack of quality. And I'm not just saying this because I'm a Scooby-Doo fan. This series comes across as a huge middle finger in a way that not only disrespects the fans, but also the creators of the franchise itself. I admit that I create parody pieces too, but even my parodies and satires have love behind them. I don't write them to spite or humiliate anyone. The most I do is that I try to make you stop and think after reading my webcomics. I NEVER spite. PS: I'm also ok with Velma (the real one) being a lesbian because the true version of her is still likable, smart and her character is fun.

Change characters races and sexuality its not an actual problem If you do It properly. The problem its that Velma use this like a shield for criticism of the show bc its not funny or even play with the adult aspect unless is sexual jokes and cussing

Was not she one already in Mystery Incorperated TV show? But you know, it didn't matter since she was an ENJOYABLE CHARACTER and the show was very subtle about it, to the point of it being your headcanon anyway-at least from what I remember.

@@luana9868 nah its usually always a problem. People have a tendency to always gravity towards what looks familiar. But ya sometimes like with Nick Fury you can race swap make them look completely different and a lot of people like him better in the end but it tends to be rare with no exact formula to get people past the image of a character they already have in their minds.

@@luana9868 eh you know even in the movies in no version do you see her interested in any man or woman. She's often times awkward and in her own little world so her being lesbian seems not only likely but her sexuality was never explored because no cared to know what anyone's sexuality even was. You pretty much knew Fred and Daphne were together and nothing else to which no one even asked if shaggy was into anyone or Velma or Scooby. If they never answered we still would have never asked. Scooby Doo was not a hook up show

Hey, remember Mystery Incorperated? Funny but serious, self aware etc. Had an engaging and overarching plot that was not afraid to get dark. Didn't bash political agenda and was just pure fun. Had an actual ORIGIN STORY FOR THE GANG, THAT MADE SENSE!

Being thoroughly out of touch with most of what modern entertainment companies produced over the past ten years or so has enabled me to embrace serenity and happiness while celebrating my classically liberal values of equality, open-mindedness, empathy, kindness, charity and acceptance. I am impervious to the current trends of blatant, hypocritical bigotry, hatred of traditional positive values, and the destruction of everything once respected and valued in Western society, including art, music, history, and culture.
