Well done, great info. Concur on Nelson as a great source for gear. I believe the Brits/Commonwealth countries set the standard on belt order/kit. You don't see butt packs being used. My guess is as you noted it is hard to get it "tight". Looking forward to more!

The bum pack has been dropped because it's all about in out of vehicles easily. But they still get used in Australia. That little bit extra you can get in a bum pack...moderate temps here compared to Northen hemisphere. Hootchie ground sheet sox jumper rations beanie/ bally hexi gas stove for brews. You can jam more in tie hootch on or separately shelter pouch. Basically to not have one is a step back. You can dump your pack and live off your webbing including bedding down. You often see Brits tie ponchos shelters jungle bag rolled in it or a jumper. You can get that mostly in a bum pack. Funnily enough when he said the butt pack is large..I'm thinking it's a bit small compared to ones here

VERY nice rig! I moved from chest rigs to a belt kit in the last 2 yrs and if it wasn’t for the lead time during the coof, I would have went with the jungle rig. I got the Jay Jays Chameleon webbing and added some of my own pouches after careful selection. Belt kit really is the best rural dismounted option.

Just liked and Subd I’m an old Cold War Sgt. Belt Kilt is for dismounted troops. Paracord was helpful to lock in Alice clips and to attach a strip of green closed cell mat as an inner belt. Electrical tape green foam wherever on your kit for comfort. 4 -30 rd triple Alice pouches in front for combat. 2 GI cups better than one. Liked your rig. Today, my mission set is different. I run 4 lines of gear. Which has either a primary and or secondary weapon and field support system. Each functions alone or together, and can be stashed when moving from suburban to rural and back. My Belt Kit starts with a Condor pistol belt for on the fly adjustment for seasonal clothing and comfort. All Alice pouches are zipped tied on. Also run MOLLE pouches too. Because I live in Virginia near the mountains my concealed pistol can legally go to open carry. To the right I have a kydex holster for G19; Alice Tripple 30 rd pouch for whatever I need and Peltor ears attached to it; next pouch holds a Gatorade. Rear SAW pouch can hold either a Gortex rain jacket or micro fleece shirt or other kit. Left rear side: space for an extra 556 mag or radio pouch or canteen; next dump pouch; then kangaroo pouch for 30 rd 556 mag and 15 round pistol mag. Pouch for pepper gel. I sewed up a side by side 556 chest rig with IFAK pouch and two larger pistol mag pouches for leather man and pistol mag. Below but still attached is a small waist pack. With Safety glasses, small bottle of Windex, back up ear plugs, some snicker bars, Gatorade mix, spare batteries, gun oil, lighter. Small back pack holds 2 liter bladder, and anything else I will need. Small pack can store under Alice Ruck lid. The Alice Ruck is my resupply and other field gear. The ability to keep the weight evenly distributed and light for the task at hand, and to plus up or down kit is handy. You can attach your buttpack to the rear webbing, but a better option would be to attach a horizontal stuff sack just above your GP pouches like the Finnish troops used to do, if you don’t want to run a small day pack so it’s easily accessible and removable from your webbing, reducing the amount of kit to be carried. Given all the back injury from heavy Chest rigs you are going in the right direction.

The buckles being inverted seems like a huge oversight on velocities part. The only thing I can think of is that letting the longer end fall may reduce the chance of the buckles hitting each other and making noise if left open

Love the setup. I would suggest with the crye night cap that you add a counter weight to it. Once I did that, I loved that thing. Funny you mention British Kits. I have been experimenting with one for a while and after this video and a few others it's jungle kit all day. I rock Velocity systems everything already, stoked to start training with a similar. You done need to mess around with fixing it.. just go army surplus store and by some old lbe alice stuff.

Honestly no. The factory velsyst belt is pretty perfect. Your hips tend to thank the fact that its not like a barrel band around your waist as time goes on. Some replace the inner belt with something more rigid like a riggers if they want some more stiffness, but the outer is fine.

Come on man.. for those of us that have to deal with that kind of stuff there is two things you never use.. #1 is cheap breathable mesh.. you’ll never get everything out of them lol.. second is exposed velcro.. I mean you can use a soft wire brush to clean but it wears the hook and loop out fast. And exposed velcro will collect as much crap as mesh will..

That's a lot of weight on that belt ,all those mags on the front of the hip , you need those on a plate carrier 3 in front 2 under arm each side, including the one your rifle 8 , but the weight would be flat against your body, (smaller profile)and easier to move quickly ,in or out, or run . Do some research on Special forces guys that Have been in war there are Real warriors on YT that review their Kits. There's the problem with your kit , you can't run with that , getting into vehicles, making yourself small in tight places, going through door openings, hoping over things , if you were in war you would need a P.C. therefore you would spread that load out on it ,. for all these reasons . That heavy bulky fat belt rig would slow you down and get you killed , I'm sorry.. but that's the truth.

I must've missed it, but did you discuss sewing in loops for the top of your buttpack to attach the harness too? I served in the early 90's so LBE is near and dear, and using chest rigs, just seem to overheat me climbing mountains, etc. Theres gotta be some study done with chest rigs and heat injuries... Anyways, I have one of those Eagle Ind. take on the LBE that they were issuing in the early to late teens. Ditched the flotation pads inside, and I love the buttpack. But same roll. I always mod my gear with that handstiching awl and figured that what I was going to do next. Its not pretty, but its solid. Thanks for sharing

The velsyst attaches at the highest point it can on the buttpack. Its actually a couple of inches above the height of the buttpack.
