Voiceplay is the best. They do it all. No label, no manager. The arrangement, storyboard, production, editing and first mix are all done by them, usually by one of them. This arrangement was the percussionist, Layne Stein. Drunken Sailor is Geoff's arrangement. The bald tenor, Eli Jacobson, also does arrangements for them his most recent was Creep. If you react to the Halo theme, please, please, please watch the entire outro. It will tell you so much about Voiceplay and the kind of men that they are. I subscribed the first time you reacted to Geoff.

I’m glad you liked these guys-there’s a TON of good music ahead of you. They also did Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, which inspired Chicago to invite them to sing with them in concert. You’re right-they ARE incredible. Have fun with this rabbit hole!

Yep, that was actually Layne Stein providing the percussion. He's amazing- if you want to hear him in isolation, do a reaction to two of their shorter videos- the VoicePlay Loop series, episodes 1 and 2. Basically, the guys roll dice, and go in order putting together a short a cappella piece. It's not how they arrange full-scale productions like this one, but it does allow you to hear each vocalist without production and in isolation (briefly). Then, at the end of the video, they assemble all the layers into a finished short piece. Other than that, all I can say is that you are really going to have fun with VoicePlay. And the Halo Theme- heck yeah! But be sure and listen to Scott Porter's tag at the end, because it tells you so much about not only why they put that video together, but about what kind of people the guys in VoicePlay are. (Scott Porter, while he is no longer with VoicePlay, was a member of a much earlier version of the group when the guys were not long out of high school. He may have even started with them while they were in high school; I don't know the dates offhand. Point being, he goes way back with the guys, and now he stars on shows like Friday Night Lights. Wow, long tangent, sorry.) There are so many fantastic options to choose from in their catalog, as they are probably the most diverse group I've ever heard. I don't think there is any genre they won't tackle, and they'll generally nail it. So follow what catches your eye on their channel, and prepare to be amazed! Geoff isn't the only vocal monster in this group. 😉

Aren’t they amazing? I love Geoff’s solo stuff too but the whole group together is pure magic. The beatboxer arranged this one and yes, it was all voices. ❤

Everything by Geoff Castellucci and Voiceplay are amazing. You will absolutely love their Halo Theme video. The first 3 minutes is the video. The last 3 minutes is Scott Porter, who was their beatboxer from 1997-2003, gives a heartfelt tribute speech to a friend that had passed away not long before they made the video and why they made it. In this video. Left to right.... Layne Stein - percussion, baritone, arrangements. J None - baritone, guest, former member. Geoff Castellucci - bass, arrangements. Eli (like jelly) Jacobson - tenor, rock tenor, lighting, arrangements. Cesar De La Rosa - baritone, tenor. You should check out their shorts and live videos as well. Subscribed for more Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci.

Welcome to #Voiceplay. Subscribed for more reactions!! Great first reaction. Get ready to be mind-blown every time. The lineup from Hellfire from Left to Right.... Layne Stein (Arranged this piece) beatboxer sometimes baritone, J. None (featured singer - and former member of Voiceplay. J. None now sings for the Navy), Geoff - bass and sometimes tenor 2 - arranges a lot of their releases, Eli (pronounce "L" "E" like Jelly) on high rock god tenor and usually doing the lighting and sometimes arranging, Cesar is usually baritone but can range up to tenor 1 like he did on Dream On. Cesar also does a mean "air guitar" that you saw on Hellfire. In addition to the Halo Theme (and watch all the way to the end for great background on Voiceplay history), You'll love VoicePlay's versions of Nothing Else Matters, Valhalla Calling, Hoist the Colours, Warriors, Creep, Seven Nation Army, Hall of the Mountain King, Dragonborn Comes, Dream On, 21 Pilots Mashup, If I were a Rich Man / Girl, and of course their latest release Lion Sleeps tonight. Enjoy.

Hi! ! I hope you don't mind, but here are some unofficial (but important!) rules for listening to Geoff/Voiceplay! I just came up with them on my own, but after years of being a Voiceplaya, I've found they're necessary for optimal Voiceplay (and to a degree, Home Free as well) listening. If you've already got some of them down, know I'm just posting the list, not criticizing your reactor skills! The rules: #1) VERY important! ALWAYS watch to the very end of the video, or at least a ways into the patrons scrolling. Often times it may LOOK like the video has ended, but there's an outro. Also, watching to the end lets you see their awesome cover art. #2) Always leave the closed captions on. Geoff's wife Kathy (who helps with their videos, she also appears in some, such an amazing woman!) has hearing loss, so sometimes there will be little hidden gems in the CC. #3) If you pause a video to speak, rewind it ten seconds before you start it again, to make sure you don't miss anything. #4) Don't look away from the screen, or close your eyes for more than a second, because, again, you might miss a visual gag or clever moment. #5) Don't go into their videos with expectations on what the song will be like, i.e., that it will be the same as the original. These guys put their own spin on things. The only thing to expect, generally, is to be blown away by their sheer talent. #6) Unless you have a REALLY great speaker system with stereo sound, ALWAYS wear good headphones/earbuds with Voiceplay and Geoff. They do amazing little tricks you can only pick up with those hearing devices. Plus, some of Geoff's notes are so low you practically can't hear them without headphones. Glad to see you were blown away by them! As we all were, even those of us who have been their fans for years! This is my favorite Voiceplay line-up too, with Cesar (far right) and J. None (directly to the left of Geoff in this). There have been different line-ups through the years, so don't be surprised if the core members' faces change as you go back farther in time. With J. None on a sabbatical of sorts (the Naval Choir asked him to sing with them), they have different guests for each song. But fear not, because they always find the PERFECT guest for each song! Oh, and FYI, from left to right facing the screen we have: Layne Stein, their beatboxer. Sometimes he sings, and it's always a treat to hear his voice. He also has another talent I won't spoil for you. J. None. (mentioned above.) Geoff Castellucci Eli Jacobsen (pronounced El-ee, NOT E-lie!) Cesar De La Rosa, their newest member I could tell you all sorts of facts and opinions about each member, but I'll let you discover them on your own! Enjoy! I know we will watching you!

Layne Stein, on the left here, is the vocal percussion for the group, He also arranged this one. He and Geoff are the two main arrangers for the group. To hear more percussion maybe try their cover of In In The Air Tonight. Eli, who also does some arranging, is in charge of the lighting and backgrounds where appropriate.

Voiceplay is the best acapella. There simply is nothing they can't do. Serious. Funny. Epic. Thoughtful. They do it all. Other videos will highlight the other members more than Geoff and you will see how special every single one of them are. Their baritone Cesar just hit a D6!

When you'll watch the Halo Theme, which was praised by the very author (he said theirs is the best rendition of that theme he ever heard, including his own!), please PLEASE listen it to the end... I know, the spoken outro is long, BUT it's a beautiful window on their story and their human beings side... And as a gamer, it'll move you. Heck, I'm NOT a gamer, but it brings tears to my eyes EVERY TIME. 🙂 Loved your reaction. Exploring Voiceplay's rabbit hole, you'll discover so many different genres and songs they covered and made their own... Always deeply respecting the original. 🙂 See you next time! PS: Another a cappella group you would probably like is Home Free. Especially since you're "blown away" by vocal percussion 🙂. Home Free and Voiceplay were together in the 4th season of the TV show "Sing off", and the subsequent tour that lasted one year or more (there are plenty of videos from that tour). They've been friends since, and even made a video together that was originally prepared in case they had a direct contest within the show; it never happened, so they decided to make it as a video later. It's titled: "Survivor - Zombies vs. Hillbillies". Ah, both groups are extremely talented and have a really nice sense of humour and self-irony... 😅 I love them BOTH. Even if I watch more Voiceplay, I really appreciate both of them. If you want to try Home Free, I'd suggest to start from either "Man of constant sorrow" or "Brothers in arms". 🙂

That was so much fun to watch, thanks! Halo: listen all of the way to the end. Let them talk - it says SO MUCH about who they are, and what you are getting when you watch VoicePlay. You're gonna' love Drunken Sailor, too (this one also extends past the 'obvious' ending, but it's an extension of the performance.)

You mentioned playing Halo, and I know many gamers play multiple games, so besides the Halo theme, here are some other VoicePlay videos connected to video games: The Dragonborn Comes (Skyrim) Warriors (Imagine Dragons cover, League of Legends) Enemy feat. AleXa (Imagine Dragons, League of Legends/Arcane) Since Geoff didn't start his solo channel until the lockdown, there are a lot more VoicePlay videos around than Geoff solo videos, but both rabbit-holes are well-worth a deep exploration! Have fun!

I am so happy you are finally getting to watch a voiceplay video! Drunken Sailor is both hilarious and musically stunning. They are not afraid to change it up to make a somewhat repetitive song more dynamic and interesting. Yes, Layne Stein is the vocal percussionist. They also included some stomping sounds in this arrangement I believe. Can't wait to see you react to more of their catalog.

I envy the VoicePlay journey you're about to explore. Being truly independent, they do everything themselves and each song is approached in a way that honors the original yet has the VoicePlay spin. There's hardly anything that's the best for you to do next because it's all good. Even songs I really don't like are redeemed by VoicePlay's versions.

I really enjoyed your enthusiastic reaction to Voice Play- thanks! As the other "Voice Players" or "Voice Playas" have stated in the comments, they are an amazingly talented group that does all of their own production without a record label or contract so they have complete control of their creative expression. They are a group from Orlando Florida and all the members and their frequently featured guests have worked as performers for Universal and/or Disney theme works so they are very theatrical. They are very patron supported and a lot of their covers are patron requested. For more of their covers from video games check out "Valhalla Calling" and "My Mother Told Me from Assassin's Creed, "Dragonborn Comes" from Skyrim, and "Warriors" from League Of Legends for starters. I think they do a lot of covers you would love so check out their playlist and react to songs you know- you will be blown away every time!

Exceptionally important! Let me reiterate! Watch the Halo theme to the VERY END! Also, yes, that's Layne doing the vocal percussion. He'll blow you away every time. Check out Voiceplay's "In The Air Tonight" or "Carry On My Wayward Son" and your jaw will be hanging open. You should check out Home Free too, they're excellent A Cappella artists and their beatboxer, Adam Rupp is just as skilled as Layne! Between the two of them, I bet there's not a sound they can't do. "Man Of Counted Sorrows" is a good Home Free one to start with, they're more Country themed, but do a variety as well.

Hey man, welcome to VoicePlay. Yep, Layne is an insanely talented vocal percussionist. What he can do with his mouth blows my mind. Plus Geoff is a dragon, Eli (rhymes with jelly) is a freaking rock god with those high tenor notes, Cesar has the voice of an angel and often brings the sass, and when J.None returns (he's currently in the Navy but records with them when he's on shore leave) his voice is warm butter, plus he raps and has been working on solo stuff, sorta like Geoff does. I can't wait to watch your Halo video. "Valhalla Calling" is another one I think you'd like. It really showcases their theatrics, making acapella into something you can rock out to.

They also did a post-apocalyptic trilogy over 3 yrs and a change of members since one left for personal reasons and the other was recruited by the US Navy for his vocal talents) - Warriors (Imagine Dragons), Dream On (Aerosmith), and Seven Nation Army (White Stripes). "this is my first acapella group." Then you are getting spoiled! XD Geoff has stated in interviews that he always wanted to be a rock tenor, so he worked on his upper range. But puberty had other plans and we now hove the bass singer we all love with a range many singers would kill for. (Seriously, 5 octaves is pretty crazy.) it is his ability to go from one end of his range to the other so rapidly that always struck me. If you want another example of that sort of difference, I would suggest their cover of Oogie Boogie's Song from the Nightmare Before Christmas. VoicePlay is often called the theater kids of acapella and the kings of Halloween and for good reason! There is only one Boogie Man, and he does not play fair. I will hold further recommendations until I catch up on your reactions, so I can give some better suggestions.
