On August 11, 2023, the collaborative efforts of the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Recreation and Parks, and Clean Harbors Environmental Inc. converged to address homeless encampments at the Venice Beach Restrooms. In adherence to established protocols, workers donned white hazardous materials suits to ensure safety during the operation.
Recognizing the vital need for efficient coordination among multiple departments in managing homeless encampments, Councilwoman Traci Park's office took a proactive step by appointing a dedicated Homelessness and Housing Coordinator.
The cleanup operation unfolded through the coordinated efforts of three distinct waste management teams, each assigned specific responsibilities. While the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works and Recreation and Parks teams donned yellow safety vests, the Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc. team stood out in orange vests. The Clean Harbors team initiated the process by meticulously sorting through refuse to identify and segregate hazardous materials like batteries, syringes, and urine. Subsequently, Los Angeles Public Works sanitation workers managed the collection of non-hazardous waste.
The support for the cleanup initiative was significantly bolstered by the active involvement of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) and St. Joseph's Center. These organizations played a critical role in providing essential outreach services to assist individuals experiencing homelessness and meet their fundamental needs. As part of their efforts, the homeless outreach team distributed food and water to those without homes throughout the cleanup operation.
To ensure the safety of all participants and secure cooperation from the homeless community, Los Angeles Park Rangers maintained a vigilant presence throughout the cleanup operation. The objective was not only to uphold cleanliness and hygiene standards but also to ensure safety protocols.
Notably, despite the enforcement of Ordinance 41.18, which prohibits sitting, lying, or sleeping in public places, as well as storing, using, maintaining, or placing personal property in the public right-of-way, no citations were issued during the cleanup operation at the Venice homeless encampment.
It's imperative to understand that while these cleanup initiatives, exemplified by the one at Venice Beach, are integral to the City of Los Angeles' larger efforts to address homelessness, they form just a part of the comprehensive strategy. Acknowledging that these actions do not represent a comprehensive solution, the city remains deeply committed to devising sustainable, long-term strategies that address the underlying causes of homelessness and provide vital resources to those in need.

I've been homeless, it was a eye opener, but instead of giving up and excepting my situation. I found an abandoned address ,used that address for a job application. first check got a tent and bycicle next couple of checks saved got a car ,and work my way back on my feet, all it took was not being lazy and determined. Wow, they store their stuff in there, ugh, so regular people can’t use them. It’s funny, they take stuff out, and put it 6 feet away. Nope not there either. The same attempts have been made to help the homeless but it’s so multi causal it’s hard to change.

I've seen that as well. I knew people at work (the low tier employees) that would get thrown in jail all the time for stupid crap, then get let out since they had no money to pay bail, they'd go back for their sentencing and go sit out 10/15/30 days in the county lockup then be out and back at work, they'd apply to every public assistance group to get enough money to cover rent and restock on food and eventually they'd do it again until out company fired them for missing to many days. Then we got rid of the leftist judges and more right wing ones who ordered the offenders into work programs while in the county lockup and it happened allot less after they couldn't just sit it out.@@jps3b

What people in California are failing to understand is that most of the homeless/addict population is not even from California. Homeless people/addicts are being incentivize to leave their state and go to California because their state does not have resources for mental issues/ help for addicts and they don't want homeless people there. People are getting paid or given a one way ticket to go to California. The other problem is that there are homeless shelters and tiny homes that were built in different parts of California but they come with rules. Such as you must be in your room/home by 10 pm, no drugs, no visitors, etc. However, most homeless people/addicts DO NOT WANT TO FOLLOW THOSE RULES and since most of these rooms/homes are in the dessert they rather live the westside beach life in the streets than have to follow rules and have a bed away from the beach.

regardless of the puppets we ''vote for'' it doesn't matter. this will happen either way, doesn't matter who is in office. did you really think the government is willing to help these people? thanks for the laugh. this has been happening slowly for the past 20+ years. so is it all the presidents faults in that time? like I said, the presidents are puppets. voting doesn't work. funny how people still argue that it does lolololzzzzzzzzz.

It appears the bathrooms are sleeping quarters and the beach is their litter box.

I have to deal with homeless 5 days a week for work. I just stop giving a phuck. Majority of them are on some type of substance control. Half of them is like this guy at the end of the video, combative. I had been attacked a few times. Fortunately, I had not been injured. My supervisor gave me the best advice: Homeless has nothing to lose and you got everything to lose.

Hopefully you don't work with the homeless anymore, if you're supposed to be helping them and you've given up you are useless to them. Said it yourself "stopped giving a phuck."
