Dear Bev Sputler, Do try and ride this train if possible as it truly is a great experience. I recently did Paris back to London as a part journey and that is good as a "taster" trip for this train. In the UK there are many heritage private railways and so many interesting rides to experience. Many of these are steam hauled and some groups are even building brand new steam locomotives for use on these lines and even the main inter-city routes. I too travel on Am Trak. I love the trip from Houston to New Orleans.I ride it just before Christmas Day. A night arrival in New Orleans.Always a fine trip.

It simply feels a great privilege to be able to be in a place of such great craftsmanship and design. This, combined with the most wonderful service, without doubt, creates the best train in the world on which to travel. The Eastern & Oriental Express or E&O is a luxury train operating in Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand, and is run by the same Venice Simplon-Orient-Express company. Unfortunately, as yet, I have not had the opportunity to make my way out there to ride that trip but it is always good to have an ambition to do something spectacular and different. The Am Trak from Houston to New Orleans isn't as posh as the Majaraja,but it's a slow ride, with a pretty fair dining car, leaving noon from Houstonand arriving in New Orleans at 21:30.

Dear John Mortley, On my last trip I was chatting to one of the stewards on the train and it appears that the company is thinking about introducing a vehicle with en-suite facilities, possibly four compartments. It will probably be outside my price range but it will address the image of the train as being rather challenging as regards these matters. I have just been on the VSOE from Paris to London just for a little treat, ( I think I deserve it moment ) ! and it is true, the interiors of the continental stock are beyond belief magnificent. A little bit of more detailed research on the part of the movie makers would have certainly been appreciated by rail fans around the world. But that's show biz I suppose . . . and it is a good movie. Envious you got to travel on this gorgeous thing, but congratulations, I'd live on it if I could! Agreed, the movie was very good, but it just bothered me greatly they only had four cars, one of which was a baggage car, and they'd disfigured the locomotive for some unknown reason to look like nothing else on the planet. Still, a very good movie and I'm one of the few (apparently) who likes it better than the original.

Dear Clark Griswald, I happened to notice that last week they had the previous version of Murder on the Orient Express on television in England and it certainly did appear that the scenes involving the interrogation of all the suspects took place in the actual Lalique vehicle although the pattern of the material on the chairs was a older design. If it wasn't the actual vehicle used then that previous movie company had gone to a lot of trouble to get the glass fittings correct as I have photographed them just a few weeks ago. I am glad that I am not the only one out there that worries about these things . . . Very best wishes WooWooMad.

Dear RDONNM, I have found that the best way to ride the Orient Express is to decide which journey you would like to experience. You don't have to do the whole trip, it is possible to choose a part of a journey and experience your favourite piece of landscape. For example, last time I was on I went Paris to London.
