There's lots to do in Grenada on and off shore. Diving on the underwater statues in the marine park was a real experience and we get out first taste of Lionfish, delicious!
As with everything in life there are challenges though as Judy has to make an unexpected trip to the States and I have to deal with getting the boat settled in a very rolly anchorage.

Ah my beloved Grenada. Bought a beneteau 21 there in 2010. Loved Rogers bar down at hog island. Clarke's court bay playing cricket on the green grass before they built the marina. Halcyon dreams. 😊

I would love to see some more blue water footage so I would recommend Brazil! See where the mighty Amazon meets the Atlantic, bounce down to coast to Rio de Janeiro, then of course to Itajai where the Ocean Race stops in. Hop down to visit Uruguay then Buenos Aires, continuing South to Ushuaia, then it's an easy shot east to Cape Town. I really think Fair Isle would enjoy the voyage.

I’ve always stayed well clear of Lionfish when scuba diving as I knew the spines were poisonous. But never knew they were good eating, after careful preparation!

I've always worn thick gloves and trimmed the Lionfish barbs with scissors. You can then filet it as any other fish ((just get them all). I trim all the fins down to the body to be safe and all is good. Definitely hit the Grenadines. A different world than Grenada. I wasn't a super fan of Martinique although for first world items (like groceries), hard to beat a good Carrefour (in that part of the world) until you get further north. Another place I recommend is Îles des Saintes in Guadeloupe although its a bit of a haul from Grenada. Just don't use the main bay (in front of the town) as it will make the swell at Prickly Bay seem like a farm pond. Explore the surrounding islands for a great time. There are essentially no boat parts or services so be forewarned.

Yes, these fish are all over the Caribbean, Atlantic and Mediterranean waters - they are invasive survivors and multiply rapidly. When carefully prepared, they are tasty! We had a bunch from a dive near Destin, Florida. The crew prepped the fish and most of us would bring them up (carefully), one at a time.

I think you are right. In a crowded mooring area, you shouldn't hang out permenant anti-roll beam or stern lines.

when in the area, try Mustique ... private island with a bar that is accessible to the public. And if I am not mistaken, Mick Jagger shows up in that bar occasionally ... ;-) we missed him a couple of years ago by just a few days. 🙂

I've seen lion fish hunting before. I have seen poultry shears or a meat clever used. I think the french colony islands have great pastries and i think the home govt subsidies food so the prices are less bad. Brickhouse had some robbery issues on one island . cant remember which

have you tried using a bridal to hold you at an angle to the wind?

The bridal tends to work for up to about 30 degrees but this is more like 90 & the wind is strong so a kedge is the best option I think

Hello Steve: for a boat your size... what type and size of kedge anchor you have/recommend?

Well with the Danforth type anchors that most people use for a kedge its more about size than weight, they hold with the flukes grabbing the bed so the bigger the better. It really comes down to how big you can manage to handle for the uses you think you need it for. I probably couldnt hand pull a bigger anchor up into the dinghy, which I often have to do. But I could go aluminium and go bigger and get less weight and more hold. I think aluminium Danforths are a good idea.

Enjoyed you taking us to Granada !. The statues seem to be a bit of a folly. Trailing the hose seems awkward (weights would make getting down easier) and it looked like you could get fowled up in the statues. Nice lionfish discussion and demo..

Yes we forgot to put the weights in the dinghy! I could just about manage, but Judy is more buoyant and struggled to get down. The statues do pose a hazard to wrapping the hose but it's actually easy to manage and other than that you have no idea the hose is even there. On the whole for us having the hooker system is so much better than trying to carry dive bottles and all the other paraphernalia that goes with them on the boat

Please tell more about your experience with the hookah. I’ve always thought that would be a good way to clean the hull and check the anodes, too.

I know I wouldn't be able to do it with just a snorkel
