In case things get rough and we do not have sufficient Critical Care trained practitioners to run the vent, others are going to have to step up. The purpose of this video is to familiarize, to an extent, clinicians with different parameters that they need to know on the ventilator to keep someone alive when they're in respiratory failure. This was completed in one take. I slipped on some words. This is not meant to be the end-all mechanical ventilation video. The RRT is the owner of the vent and a great resource.
I highly recommend you purchase Will Owens' Ventilator Book which is less than $20 and great.

Thanks a lot Sir..was much awaited video... kindly explain Plateau pressure?
@STLCCRT
@STLCCRT 4 жыл бұрын
It is the amount of pressure in the lung at end inspiration and before expiration begins. It is very hard to obtain because it requires pausing the ventilator (at end inspriration) for a period of a few seconds. Most times the patient can override your attempts during that maneuver because of their respiratory drive and not being sedated "enough". If possible it's good to keep plateau pressures at or below 35. Also, it is very helpful to document the trend occuring in Plateau pressures (PP). If PP starts to decrease that's usually good. If they start increasing that can imply the lungs are starting to get stiffer (one indicator of ARDS forming). Hope this helps. I am a retired RRT and instructor in Respiratory Care in St. Louis.

Why would someone be vented but not paralyzed?
@JeniiStatt
@JeniiStatt 4 жыл бұрын
Typically, just sedation is used for most patients on ventilators. Paralytics are commonly used for patients with severe ARDS when high ventilator settings are still not oxygenating the patient. This article provides details about paralytics in ARDS. rc.rcjournal.com/content/61/6/830
