We take one last overland adventure with our beloved Jeep Wrangler JKU named Finn. This last trip focuses on Hells Canyon and the Wallowa mountain range in Northeastern Oregon. We had to fix parts of a 1,000 route through Oregon that we are releasing to the public exclusively through OnX Offroad. This Family Overalnding weekend was full of surprises, but mostly..just good vibes with Finn and the Family.

The Oregon Trail (verse) Art Guiterman; Two hundred wagons rolling out to Oregon , breaking through the gopher holes, lurching wide and free, Crawling up the mountain pass, jolting, grumbling, rumbling on, Two hundred wagons, rolling to the sea. Two hundred wagons, rolling out to Oregon, curved round the campfire flame at halt when day is done, creeping down the dark defile below the mountain crest, Surging through the brawling stream, lunging, plunging , forging on, Two hundred wagons rolling toward the sea. These two sections (above) portions of a longer piece, still it reminded me so of your 'modern day' rolling through the hills and mountains of Oregon, with direct and extended family. A most memorable and enduring venture for all.

What a great tribute to Finn! I recently said goodbye to my '13 Unlimited Rubicon (Brutus) I spent over a year going back and forth on the decision before going through with it - it was very hard to say goodbye but I knew it was time for a new adventure with a rig that fit both my daily lifestyle and offroad lifestyle better (which ultimately meant switching over to a 4Runner TRD ORP - and...I love it!). Anyway, just wanted to say I'm a new-ish subscriber here and love your videos, really enjoy what you're doing and how you're doing it - inspiring me to get out there, build up my rig a bit, and enjoy the overland experience more, even in my own backyard on the east coast. Not sure if you've ever done a live Q/A type session, but that would be neat to see sometime - keep doing what you're doing!

It took me a year to sell Finn too. It kept thinking I should just keep him as a backup rig, but he just sat there in the driveway....it was really hard to sell him, but the new owner is awesome and Finn's back to living his best life :). Thank you so much for subscribing and watching the videos! I'll definitely do a Q&A at somepoint...just have to figure out how to approach it.

@@Venture2Roam An older vehicle really needs to be driven regularly to keep it useable. Parking it and letting it sit, it would deteriorate quickly. I still have an 04 Tundra. I bought it new, use it regularly and keep it up. Just got home from a four day trip up to the Plumas National forest in the Sierras and it did great! I just did a total rebuild/upgrade on it starting last year, over winter. GFC camper, complete front/rear suspension (3 1/2" lift) 33"s. Custom front/rear bumpers/10K lb winch. 170K miles on a 4.7 L V8.

Personally I think the JK is the best modern version of the Jeep Wrangler..if they added the ZF 8 speed trans and kept the small infotainment screen. FCA or whatever they call themselves these days went crazy. Paying over 50K for a borderline model Jeep is insanity. I'm not upgrading my 2020 JLU except maybe an engine swap to a V8.

Why don't you keep it. Make it more capable, detail it, do some minor changes like installing air lockers, bigger tyres etc. Turn it into a weekend warrior. I'm just sharing my humble opinion. I respect your decision, mate. It still kept my first 4wd suzuki Gypsy (Samurai) long body.

It's pretty dang capable right now. I already put front and rear lockers on it, 4.88 gears so it's ready for 37s...I kept for a year because I couldn't bring myself to part with it..but in the end, I found myself building and driving our other two Jeeps much more..and honestly, I don't have the garage space for 3 Jeeps. Feels like every off-roading/over-landing KZfaqr buys and sells a new/barely old vehicle every year or two. Not that I’m judging, my brother does the same thing with BMW’s. I guess if you get an uptick in engagement and views because of bringing a newer model year vehicle to the channel it may make some sense, and you don’t have to own the Jeep past it’s newlywed years, so someone else will have to deal with the eventual classic Jeep unreliability as it ages while you get a brand new truck.
@Venture2Roam
@Venture2Roam Ай бұрын
I can only speak for myself, but Finn was 11 years old - I think that’s past the honeymoon phase. 😂 I find that audiences are split on it…some love seeing new builds, and some like seeing the older Jeeps. Anyone who buys a vehicle hoping for a result on KZfaq is wasting their money IMO. It’s a very risky investment, and KZfaq is a mysteriously fickle platform. That said, the car buying habits of the channels you’re talking about probably mirror their car buying habits in general. We are car enthusiasts!
@voltaire372
@voltaire372 Ай бұрын
@@Venture2Roam Oh okay, to be fair I thought Finn was closer to 2015/2016 model year, not 2013, but I’m not as good at differentiating the wrangler years (wonder why, lol). But yeah, good idea then for you and the family to get a newer model vehicle and sell the Jeep to an enthusiast who can give it the love it will need as it gets older. My truck is a young 2005 V8 T4R 4x4 Sport, but I’m also a young mustang who would rather wrench and do some maintenance as needed on an old truck with good bones, even if I have the credit score to get a new 5th/6th gen 4R or the new Bronco. I would feel more stressed scratching/breaking my new vehicle on the trail whereas on my 2005 it’s less of a thought, and the reliability is still on-par/better than some late model vehicles from less reliable brands. I will admit, new builds look really cool, hence why they drive views, but custom trucks built by off-roading enthusiasts will always win my heart more and be more interesting for me despite enjoying over landing and new vehicle content as well. Mall-crawler content has the greatest mass appeal, over-landing too, but slightly less (non-campers are out), by the time you get to rock-crawling most people have lost complete interest 😂.
