Will and Kate head out on a High Desert Overland Adventure to the Owyhees in Eastern Oregon with their dear friends Chris and Elje (Frontier State Overland), and Tim (Garza's Garage). They start the trip in the middle of a rain storm, which creates sum of the worst mud on the planet in the Owyhees. Watch as we overland our way through some challenges and find some secrets out there in the high desert.

The Owyhees are an incredible hidden gem. While they can harsh and dangerous depending on the weather, if you approach them carefully, they can offer some of the epically beautiful experiences. For more V2R vids come by and check out our Channel at: kzfaq.info

@@KelliGrayoffroad Thanks Kelli! Sounds like you’ve been out there enough to know how bad it can get!!! We were pretty methodical in evaluating the terrain…and really were surprised that the side trails were dry…we would have turned back (again) had they been like the night before. So glad you came by our vids! If you see a white Jeep and a guy with camera on the trail, please come say hi!!

Grew up literally below Graveyard Point. It gets wet fast but seems to dry fairly quickly too. Hit and miss. Spent tons of time running all those roads and been caught by them too 😉 Sans Basin has always been a favorite.

The ground looked like Porus, volcanic soil. No standing water. But when you drove through it, it was semi liquid. Sitting on top of a serious hard pack. First rains of the year and the clay was still baked solid. The luck of The Lucky!!! My battery died a week after I got home.

Owyhee's are a great place to explore. You are lucky only 80 miles away for you. For us in Central Oregon it is a good 300 plus miles away. At least we do not live in the Portland area. That would be a lot further. We have made three tips there in the past and tend to set up basecamps in safe locations then take 4wds out to explore. Love the geology, wildlife and general remoteness of the area. Normally we travel on off or shoulder seasons avoiding the crowds of the summer weekends. I am thinking about our next trip approaching from the west. It appears to be much more remote. Geocaching is one of the activities we enjoy when exploring remove locations. The often take you to places you would never go.
@Venture2Roam
@Venture2Roam 10 ай бұрын
I think your basecamp approach is really smart out there. I've been out there a ton...and still feel like I just barely scratched the surface, it's so massive and has so many surprises. The west side is less traveled for sure, the roads are more severe, and there is a LOT of room to find yourself completely alone. Cheers!

My first and only Owyhee trip to date was two years ago in mid September. Solo. I drove 10 hours to get to Rome OR. Then east on 95 to the turnoff for the Three Forks Recreation Area. It was a sunny afternoon but you could see it had just rained. Hard. Maybe its Dumb to go solo... But there was one fresh set of tire tracks in the dirt going in. So I followed. I have a really stought first gen Tundra. Access Cab. I made it all the way in to the Three Forks area. The fresh tire tracks went through the ford and up the west bank. Spent three days in there solo. Saw a huge badger. When I left it was starting to rain again. Never saw a single vehicle/person in the three days I was there.

Great comment! We do that sometimes too...but it's harder on your tread...normally if we're like hitting a 10 mile stretch on less traveled roads, we'll keep them aired down...I think this was like 20 miles on well traveled roads so we were just being a bit conservative.

I moved to the Treasure Valley area almost 2 months ago from AZ. Before I left AZ, I traded in my fiesta for a 2022 Tacoma TRD off-road. Your videos are inspiring me and after each one, I plan a new trip I want to take (up tp 3 planned now). My first one was this weekend but it was only a day trip to ease into going off grid. I explored around the Chalk Basin area after I watched your Birch Creek Ranch video you recently posted. I guess if I ever see a couple Wranglers out in the Owyees, then I'll come say hi haha.

Unreal! I'm making the trip from Vancouver BC to Moab in May and planned to spend a night at the Succor creek campground along the way. I was going to go through Leslie Gulch on the way back to the interstate but is this area an easy enough alternative? I'll be in a lifted Xterra on ATs

Loved your stunning video and watched it back to back several times seeking information on the route and road conditions. I want to add Three Fingers Gulch to my itinerary to Owyhee this fall. Can you provide a few more details on the road conditions and the specific route you took? The road looks rough, but not particularly steep or off-camber, and I never saw any evidence of steep rock ledges. Also, checking on my maps it looks like there are two possible routes to Three Fingers Gulch off of the better gravel road that passes through Succor Canyon - which way did you go? If I decide to go, I will be taking an F350 with Cooper AT3 XT tires and a lightweight popup camper on it. Thanks, on my way over to your KZfaq channel.

So glad you liked the vid. Our route can be found on All Trails...just look for the 3 fingers loop. Trail conditions are easy to moderate. No gatekeepers, I think an offorad trailer would do just fine.

I have the same mixed feelings to be honest. It was just too beautiful not to share in the end. We never ever share coords on any of our videos and I can't imagine us ever doing it. I think anyone who really wants to find one of our spots can put it together by watching our videos, but we do care about leaving things better than we found it, and that's not the same for other people. I really appreciate your comment.

Just found your channel. The cinematography is out of this world. I'd like to make a suggestion. I hope it's not taken as negative. You might want to consider talking less. It would be so relaxing just to watch you go through these stunning landscapes, hear the trucks do there thing w minimal music and talking. The shots lend themselves to be epic and amazing..but I keep getting yanked out of the moment you've created by narration that's usually unnecessary

If you've driven the Owyhees in the mud, you know that even flat dirt roads can be a nightmare out there. That said, it's all relative to your risk tolerance I think. When I have my family with me, my risk tolerance is usually very low.
