This week, I cross state lines into southern New Mexico, where I experience Lincoln National Forest and the surrounding cities. I find inspiration in the Space History Museum, and enjoy a delicious sandwich in the mountain town of Cloudcroft. Mud, snow, and fallen trees dictate my direction, yielding interesting new places!

You Americans are so lucky. You have almost every type of weather, lots of national parks and forests, a good road system and best market availability and variety. Shame on those who don't enjoy it.

Great vids. In Texas, consider Padre Island National Seashore near Corpus Christi, Texas. There you will find lots of camping along 60 miles of unspoiled beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, accessible only by 4WD. Also consider Devils River State Natural Area near Del Rio and take a dip in the refreshing, crystal clear waters of the river. Finally, if you’re headed to Big Bend, consider a detour through Marfa and then down Pinto Canyon road (with a stop at Chinati Hot Springs), which will eventually take you to Presidio. Also consider camping in Big Bend Ranch State Park. It’s not nearly as crowded as BBNP, and there are lots of back roads leading to awesome campsites there. Enjoy your time in Texas.

What a great trip down memory lane. I was stationed at Holloman AFB in the early 1980's. The Space History Museum used to be the Space Hall of Fame. Cloudcroft looks like it hasn't changed a bit! The Caverns at Carlsbad are awesome! Hope you had a chance to enjoy it.

I stumbled onto your site and really enjoyed your videos. Being from West Texas, I have been to many of the places you visited in West Texas and New Mexico. The problem is that I grow to hate you more and more as I watch! About 2 decades ago my plans were to retire and get an RV of some type and travel the entire 49 states and Canada and live a month or two in each place. Well, I retired early and met a pretty woman in Thailand and am now married to her and live there. All of this happened before Facebook and You Tube and videos like yours! Watching what you are doing reminds me I would have been doing that if I had not left the US for my wife. I could do that here but she has motion sickness and cannot ride and does not want to camp out. So keep making these great videos and I will keep watching them and hating you more! lol

The Guadalupe Mountains NP is 5 hours from my home in Texas. I go to the Mountains at least once every year to backpack hike. Really enjoying your adventures. Lol, and you just mentioned Carlsbad in the video. Check out The Guadalupe's if you have the chance😀

Looks like you need a good chain saw to cut thru the fallen trees . I've had to cut thru many. You always run into them. A chainsaw and a good axe for splitting makes wood gathering easy for camp fires.

I was glad to hear you mention the issue of BLM/public land vs private land. We're in OK and it's all pretty much private, except for a few spotted areas of Corp land. I was watching this again and the right of way issue in most cases one cannot block a road with a sign or a locked gate the problem has come in the last 30-40 yrs when yuppies with money show up and think they can legally block an existing road those roads are there for access to other properties and emergency equipment

How much do you love those "off road" vehicles in Lost in Space? Those look pretty snazzy. Also, there's an off-road park in Marble Falls, TX just northwest of Austin. If you're going through that way and need a place to camp they might let you set up there for the night. Maybe you can even give an off-roading class to the weekend warriors who need to know how to 4x4!

I recommend Big Bend National Park, from there you can camp on the beach at Padre Island NP. But yeah not as much public land, you may be stealth camping in Wal marts or commercial camp grounds as you go east. Best forget Florida unless you get there after spring break and before school lets out. The Natchez's Trace Parkway and the Blue Ridge parkway are a beautiful way to transit that high developed area though. P.S. I like viva paper towels because they don't unravel in the back of the jeep.

Chris I know it doesn't help when you're traveling through, but a lot of private land owners post illegal private road signs to try and keep would be trespassers/road hunters from having close access to their lands. This is an area where I wish the forest service, states governments, and land management would certify public roads on gps maps. They could even enable the ability to cache illegal signs so they could be disposed of.

I really enjoy your videos, I would like to add that I love kayaking, mainly on calmer rivers, but I don’t recommend going alone. I feel your pain on public roads coming to an unexpected end because it crosses through private land. It's a constant issue in Oregon where oftentimes the BLM land is literally checkerboarded in with private land. It's not unusual to cross from public to private to public numerous times in an afternoon, and in many cases the roads go through with no restriction (other than signs indicating you can't go wandering off the road onto the land itself) but then sometimes without warning you run into a gate or No Trespassing sign and may have to backtrack for miles to find another route. This issue plagued my most recent excursion...it certainly gets frustrating after it happens multiple times in one trip. Great video, enjoyed the episode as always and looking forward to whatever you find next.

There is no internet between Cloudcroft and Carlsbad. Much less fast internet. I drive from Texas to south of Cloudcroft almost once a year for the past 30 years to ride atv's or dirtbikes on the trail system. Early in the season you have to take a saw because of all of the downed trees on the trails. Just part of life up there.
