Why do I cry to this? I was born in 81 and heard this in primary school. The war has never left my sense of tactile understanding after that. Kids in school today have no reference, no Grandparents who knew it. The smells of that generation and the cooking. The coal bunkers and single glassed windows. Milk men and paper rounds. Real cream sodas with a ball of ice cream in lemonade. Is it any wonder we have these issues in Ukraine now? Egos chomping at the bit to go down in history. Nationalism again? Seriously?

I'm not British but I have loved this song ever since I first heard Sinatra sing it on his album of songs from Great Britain. I've never even been to England but I'm very aware of the special relationship we Americans share with our British brethren. This song sort of brings us all a bit closer.

obviously not aware enough to realise that England and Britain are two different entities. Scottish, Welsh and Irish soldiers fought and died in that war too and it’s disgusting how their sacrifice is painted over in favour of the anglo-centric narrative

Not often does a song bring a lump in my throat, but this one does. I can only imagine what war years were like, but the hope, optimism and patriotism this song has is incredible and would have definitely lifted the spirits of those brave men who went to fight and sadly a lot didn't make it back.

@@yei-jopbities6100 Hace muchísimos años atrás, cuando vi u oí, por primera vez The Wall, de Pink Floyd descubrí un tema que, quizá, para algunos, habrá pasado desapercibido. Se trata de ''The little boy that Santa Claus forgot'', con Vera Lynn. Una preciosura. De hecho, en esa película de Pink Floyd y en su banda sonora, se hace alusión directa a esta dama de la canción.
