at the beginning of the animated short, it explains why peruere killed her friend - the whole “house of the hearth” is basically a hunger games scenario, where all the children will eventually have to kill each other and only one can come out on top. it’s heavily implied that clervie (peruere’s friend) was voluntarily slain by her. i had to watch it twice to understand, i was so confused too lmao

Clervie had lost all hope of ever escaping and wanted to die. She basically stepped into a strike the next time they dueled. That's why she says "I'm sorry" and "thank you". She may not have wielded the sword, but Mother killed Clervie's spirit. She's "Father" because "Mother" was too tainted for her to use.

None of this is spoilers as it's practically explained/shown from her animated short, so to explain, Arlecchino is a woman. Reason behind the title of "father" is that because of her adoptive mothers abuse and cruelty, she discarded the title of "mother" creating the title of "father".

The "Mother's" name is Crucabena a Gallic equivalent of the Welsh enchantress Ceridwen Peruere is Arlecchino's real name prior to joining the Harbinger. Clervie is Crucabena's biological child. "Father” is a contrast to her “mother” who was caring and sweet on the outside but psychotic in reality. Arle is strict and unfeeling but in reality seems to love and care for her children in her own way.

The reason why Peruere/Arlecchino calls herself Father is because of the abuse her and her “siblings” at the House of the Hearth suffered at the hands of the previous Knave, aka Mother and after she defeated her, the Tsaritsa granted her the title and the house along with it. As a result, Arlecchino abolished the fight idea and raised the children to be Fatui agents. She is a weekly boss in the game, the two shorts are from it. If you go back and watch her demo, when she was walking and children were passing her by, pause it at the first child, you’ll see an Easter egg

Most have already explained things so the only thing I wanna touch on is that not only is she breaking the cycle by using the title "Father" instead of "Mother" but also she says "as a strict and unfeeling" which means that she's not gonna give them false affection, the previous one did that to them and Arlecchino doesn't wanna do the same

The reason why she calls herself Father is because her “Mother” was an abusive and cruel person. Arlecchino basically didn’t want to be called the same thing as her.

the pink-purple haired woman, Crucabena, called herself Mother and emotionally manipulated the children in the house of the heart (an organization that raises children to become soldiers) she acted motherly and kindly so the children would be more attached to her, but since arlecchino has to do the same job, she chooses to call herself Father and raise the children indifferently and with coldness, so at least the children won't be emotionally attached to her.

this may contain some spoilers, but an explanation of the first animation - “mother” at the beginning ran an orphanage, where peruere (arlecchino) and clervie (the long hair girl) grew up. at the beginning, the story says that the children have to compete among each other and the last one standing will be the king. at the scene with the bloody gauzes, peruere asks if mothers usually argue with their daughters. in the chinese dub it is revealed that “mother” is actually clervie’s biological mother, while everyone else just an orphan. arguing = beating her, as she has bruises everywhere. peruere kills clervie to become the one true king and then she has the opportunity to defeat “mother”, which she does. when “mother” says she should have pruned the flower a long time ago, she was actually referring to clervie. “mother” was actually a member of the fatui harbingers, crucabena, and arlecchino goes on to replace her, as her murder of “mother” is excused by the archon. at the end, arlecchino continues running an orphanage, but calls herself a cold and unfeeling father to contrast the fact that crucabena posed as a loving mother, but in fact was sadistic and cruel.

4:31 Im pretty sure she offed herself rather than fight Arle. The shot right before is kind of a common way to depict that in anime and manga without fully showing it, and we dont see her hands so she is likely holding the sword hilt. Also Arle's stance dosent look like someone who just was in a fight and the shock on her face too, you can still see Arle holding a blade after her friend falls.

Actual best written character which says a lot in terms of the entirety of the Fontaine arc.

The most morally grey character in the game, She is awesome!

Because Hoyo is a $24b+ company, licensed a contract for their animation with Ufotable for GI, a lot of future animated works that you will see will be done by them and they're known for animating demon slayer, fate stay night, etc. some people said these were done by "in-house" animation studio but the in-house consisted of mostly jp directors and animators. They even brought in aimer who sang in mostly Fate openings and music on their latest v4.7 anime. Honestly, I have big expectations for GI anime.

Double upload? We eating good today. But the Arlecchino animated short is actually a minor spoiler to the Arlecchino story quest (to be fair, everyone got spoiled because they uploaded this video before the story quest was released) But this animated short spoils who the character that appears is and the events that led to present time. So we kinda had to pretend that we don't know them and the entire backstory of Arlecchino. The quest is still great because it still gives closure to the events of the short.

Fun Fact: After killing the previous Harbinger, she was arrested. However the Tsaritsa who is said to be the Cryo archon pardoned her crime under the condition that she must continue operations at the orphanage in which she grew up. So Arlecchino became the leader of the House of the Hearth but changed the way it operates. The previous harbinger referred to herself as "Mother" as she appeared more loving and kind but was actually cruel and heartless. Arlecchino was completely against her ideals so she refers to herself as "Father" since she appears more strict and harsh but actually deeply cares for all of her children. It's a cool detail they added to her character.

The first video is basically a peak into Arlecchino's past. It's not meant to explain everything but it does hint at many things that will eventually be explained in her story quest. It's just too bad half the comments here are spoiling it all already. The other videos are excepts from said story quest. You'll be able to play Arlecchino's story quest after finishing the main Fontaine Archon Quests.
