La Traviata is quite literally the most famous opera ever written. You’ve heard the Brindisi at one point or another in your life. If you live in the United States, your local opera house, now matter how (un)famous it is, probably does a production every year. It continues to rivet audiences and enchant the ear.
The story is remarkable in that it is NOT entirely historical, at least from the point of composition. It takes place in the early 19th century, and the opera premiered in 1853. However, the censors, who forever pestered the early/middle-era Verdi to no end, did not like this idea, so the setting was changed to the 1700s. As typical with Verdi, the music is intensely descriptive, emotional, and lush with moving melodies.

Simon. Your painstaking work is much appreciated. I am an Italian speaker and many translations (of others) are outdated. Some verbage used such as to taste: “libare,” are now seldom used, having been replaced by “assaggiare” or “gustare.” Thanks again for your perfectly times scores.

Thank you for, I was particularly looking for this summary. In La Traviata the famous melodies come in the beginning, In "Swan Lake" you have to wait for the main theme until the middle of the score.

Gracias a estos vídeos se puede constatar mejor la cantidad de pasajes que se cantan con notas no escritas por puro afán de lucimiento vocal, como el dichoso mi bemol sobreagudo del final del acto I 😂😂
